Capital punishment right or wrong?
It's not that they don't care about self-interest, when they commit crimes they don't want to think "I'm going to get caught and execute", they want to think "I've covered my tracks, no one can trace it to me, I'm in the clear". Or when it's in the heat of passion and there is no thinking. You kind of just proved what I was using the statistics for. If capital punishment is a deterrent, then the murder rate should be lower for the majority of capital punishment states than those without it. This is not the case. Therefore capital punishment as a deterent doesn't hold much water. And lol "choosing logic" does not mean ignoring evidence because someone might have manipulated it. I can say that about ANY study EVER. (especially since the stats I listed are just doing simple math)

Capital punishment right or wrong?
Yeah, because we all know how you can predict the future/read everyone's minds. I find claims like that laughable. There's no possible way to prove that someone wouldn't have done something if there was a different punishment involved. However, simple logic tells us that people are less likely to do something if they don't want to suffer the consequences for it. So what should I believe? Commonsense or statistics, which have the uncanny ability of distorting the truth ever so often? http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/murder-rates-1996-2007 http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/deterre ... rder-rates ^ lots of nice graphs to look at I liked my Criminal Justice prof's explanation of why this is: When people commit crimes they don't think they'll get caught Come on, you couldn't even be bothered to read all of the first page?

Capital punishment right or wrong?
Just an FYI, capital punishment doesn't work as a deterrent at all. States with no capital punishment more often than not have lower murder rates than states that do. http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/murder-rates-1996-2007 http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/deterre ... rder-rates ^ lots of nice graphs to look at I liked my Criminal Justice prof's explanation of why this is: When people commit crimes they don't think they'll get caught

National Healthcare. What do you think of it?
Government involvement is why our health care is awesome. You act like the government is some evil entity that just wants to screw it's people over. Yes, everyone pays into health care whether they need it or not, and most of us are fine with that. It's the collective majority paying so that the people among us who need health care can do so without worrying about any financial problems, which should be a top priority. Your health is the most important thing, and to have to deny yourself the access to health care because you can't afford it is wrong. I have no problem paying (less than you Americans even) so that people who need help can get it, and for peace of mind knowing that if I ever need medical attention I can get it. [bleep] you, got mine. sighted. Seems to me that "straw man" has become a buzz word on these forums

National Healthcare. What do you think of it?
Bet you your insurance sucks. And how does it make you feel knowing that your government spends more per person on health care and still comes up short compared to nationalized health care countries? Or that if we need any sort of surgery, operation, or x-rays we pay next to nothing for it while Americans pay in the 10's of thousands? Or that the choice between being healthy and getting that pain in your gut checked out by a doctor vs being ruined financially is non-existent here? Edit: Watch the language please. - Lateralus.

You guys are lame. General opinion doesn't mean [cabbage]. At one point, the majority of voters thought Obama was a good leader and look how wrong they were. Well, that's a bad example since there weren't really any other options. A better example would be the Salem Witch Trials. I will admit that it takes some weight off of yourself when someone backs you up, but come on, I've been through much worse and made it out alive. For me, too many people in these forums that are liberal. I can't keep up with it all without anyone else helping to take on some form of a libertarian mantle, so I'm letting it go. I'm not gonna shoulder the burden all by myself. Why is it Americans feel the need to label people as democratic, liberal, conservative, etc? Americans are the only people I ever see doing it and it's a bit silly. Oh, and I feel I can sum up 90% of people's mind sets who are against GOOD health care when it comes to insurance: "[bleep] you, got mine" Until they actually need to use it for serious health issues and find that the insurance company will do anything to get out of paying for it, or that their insurance doesn't cover it, or they still have to pay thousands of dollars. Keep livin the dream America

Call of Duty: World at War
There are 4 tanks on 3/4 tank maps. Also there is no limit on how many can be controlled by a team, the Russians can use the German tanks and vice versa. Only Hardcore and Search and Destroy don't have tanks I believe. Tanks really screw up certain modes. A few months ago I went on and played some Ground War, and in the War game mode you can literally park your tank in front of the objective and constantly spawnkill. Without actually playing the game you can't understand how messed up they are. The second day the game was out I got a 26 kill streak in a tank with ease and I could have gone on longer if the match hadn't ended. A few days later I got a 32 kill streak. And bolt actions aren't one hit kills And getting spawn killed WAY too much And mp40 is a two hit kill spray gun that doesn't require left trigger, and is one of the only guns that can kill people in one shot to the head Mp40 + juggernaut + steady aim, mp40 is bad enough, but this is like saying you need two crutches to play the game. Nothing like seeing tons of people using the same set up that can be gotten right after prestiging The ONE thing that I play this game for is Search and Destroy. It's way better than on 4. Well that and the nostalgia of using CoD 2 guns

National Healthcare. What do you think of it?
There used to be a prison system in effect in the past that did this, and used fines. The reasoning in this thread is pretty god damn pathetic by the way E: I should add this http://www.pluralofanecdote.com/# experiences from this thread http://forums.somethingawful.com/showth ... enumber=41 A sample Appendix Bursting in Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A.: Private insurance cost: USD$27,000.00 wait time: 6-7 hours [hide=]In early May 2009, my abdomen began to hurt. It worsened over four days. I arrived at Kings County Medical Center (yes, the one from the news where they let a poor woman die on the floor of a waiting room) after not being able to sleep all night due to abdominal pain. I waited in a jam packed waiting room for 6-7 hours. Occasionally I couldn't find a seat. When an actual doctor got a look at me, they became very concerned and ran blood, urine, and stool samples. When all of those came back negative for anything, I was sent in for an emergency CAT scan of my abdomen. That immediately showed them that my appendix was on the border of bursting, and they rushed to prepare me for an emergency appendectomy. They got me in a gown, and did one final palpation of my lower right abdomen, at which point the pain had suddenly disappeared. I didn't know this at the time, but this meant that the appendix had actually burst. As they had not been able to operate in time to remove the appendix before it's rupture, I had to remain hospitalized for 8 days. Each day cost around $3,000. I received two separate operations, one to install a J.P. drainage ball and one to remove it. Each of these cost in the range of $7,000 - $10,000. Had they merely seen me sooner I most likely would have been able to have an appendectomy and would have had a hospital stay of around 3 days, greatly reducing the overall cost. added 2009-08-17 22:00:08[/hide] 27k for something here in Canada that I've had friends go through painlessly, really seems minor here And one for universal [hide=]bone cancer in Edmonton, Canada: Universal healthcare cost: USD$0.00 wait time: weeks A few years ago I was in constant back pain, so I made an apointment with my family doctor for the following week. He sent me off to get an X-ray at the walk-in clinic where you just hand them the doctor's form and wait for the couple of people before you. My Doctor made another appointment for me to come in the next week for the results; turns out I had a compression fracture on my L2 vertabrae. I got a bone scan the following week to get some more information since I didn't remember any sort of trauma. Luckily there was a place on my university campus that could do the bone scan, so I ended up going there between classes. After getting the bone scan back, he scheduled me for a CT scan, which I had to wait about 3 weeks for. It was a bit of a longer of a wait than I would have liked but since I couldn't do anything about it I just ended up being a good Canadian and put up with it. I get the CT scan in the morning, and in the afternoon I get a call from my doctor "We need you to go in for an MRI tomorrow". None of this waiting for the next available spot, they saw something serious and got me in the next day (made me feel OK about wait times...in my case anyway). The MRI shows a tumor on my vertabrae, so they schedule me for a biopsy the next day. I saw an orthopedist later that week and scheduled a surgery about a month later to get the tumor out and fuse my spine up. I could have put the surgery sooner, but the school term was just about done and I wanted to get my finals over with. I get my surgery and it turns out the tumor was more malignant that hoped so I get referred to an oncologist and the local cancer hospital. I start on chemo the next week which continues for the summer, and then just to be sure they decide to give me radiation therapy too. The only costs that we had to pay for were some anti-nausea pills for the chemo, some morphene after the surgery, and the TV in the hospital room. added 2009-08-31 11:11:55[/hide] And another for privatized [hide=]cancer in Portland, USA: Private insurance cost: USD$8,000.00 wait time: N/A After noticing swelling and discomfort in my abdomen, I had a series of tests done and was diagnosed with cancer (GIST). I met with a surgeon a week later. My surgery went well. 3 weeks after leaving the hospital, I was laid off. I'm quickly coming to the end of my subsidized COBRA insurance, and will likely go bankrupt trying to pay for coverage to ensure I keep taking the $4500 per month medication that is keeping me alive. USA! USA! added 2009-08-21 13:52:58[/hide] And just one more for Universal (from an American too!) [hide=]American, NHS in West Sussex, England: No coverage cost: USD$164.80 wait time: 10 minutes I had large chunks of my face sewn back on by the NHS in England, a fairly nice bit of plastic surgery -- while an American abroad. I'd been riding my bicycle down a steep hill, did somersaults when something got stuck through my front spokes, and face planted at about 30mph (no helmet). The result was a 4 day hospital stay, some very prompt and quality plastic surgery, a bill for well under 100 quid, AND a small story to tell at cocktail parties and sites like this one. added 2009-08-21 16:04:40[/hide]

I wish I had that luxury. Eating home cooked is a lot more cheaper than buying junk from the store

126 cb as a F2P-er
I believe Franzk was the first f2per to max melee + prayer He said 'the first f2per I know' so no need to give us a history lesson. Oh I'm sorry for making a simple statement, do forgive me your highness. I guess I can see why you would quit after maxed total, not much else to look forward to once you get it. Maybe a pure to pk with? How close are you to that purple partyhat?
-
Think about it...
Most of them are in the Off-Topic section. I did, however, used to play RuneScape, and quit because of the aforementioned reasons. You're a troll there too

BoB, stats, outfit
To be honest I practically never wear that, I just like it. When I'm doing things that don't require armor I just wear nothing  I used to have a (what I think) was a real nice outfit, but for a female character. When I get quest cape back I guess I'll post it up

Yet another Jagex interview [30 august]
Was this update done last year? If not then they are lieing out of their [wagon]. It's like saying "I go to school from Monday-Friday". Do you really go to school every weekday? Of course not but most of the time you do during a school year. Jagex updates almost every week; sure they miss a few here and there but for the most part they stand true to weekly updates. 1. It's supposed to be every two weeks now, although it isn't 2. The last update that actually introduced something new to the game was August 10, a quest. All the other things are stuff they would have just added to the "in other news" section of the old updates

Sorry Henrique, that's the biggest load of bull I've heard all week How come? Runescape does have 9 years of content. It is really the pioneer of browser based MMOs. I was focusing on the it's updated weekly part, which it never is anymore
