  1. It wasn't working for me either so I think they've just disabled it for now.
  2. If you really want to challenge your ideas of FPS, go to the Living Rock Caverns world whilst in the Beta Client. It's sort of awe inspiring.
  3. So far the only overly bright color choice has been the water for me. That blue is, well, really bright blue - but that's probably also because the lighting seems overly bright in places. Also it doesn't seem to, well, move around a lot. At the moment it just looks like a repeated texture currently on the beta. (Does anyone else feel this way too? :? )
  4. Oh yes, I forgot to consider that. I suppose I was thinking more personally of the clan I'm in where at Tier 3 there isn't much to do besides mine and woodcut (smithing works, to an extent). At Tier 4 or 5 crafting and summoning would be much more useful to train.
  5. This is very good news for clans as maintenance and upkeep will be much easier. Hopefully we'll see more higher tier citadels and also less pressure to just mine or woodcut each week.
  6. What exactly is the maximum amount of spice (or any resource for that matter) that you can have?
  7. With the upcoming April RuneScape 3 Beta, I'm wondering what there actually is to beta test. It can't just a graphical overhaul (that draw distance!), Mod Pips did say after all "it'll be a significant improvement on all fronts." Considering the rewrite into HTML5 there should be a lot more to expect: we know there'll be options for interface improvements, an upgraded camera, and an upgraded audio engine. But I'm still not sure what there is to test in a player beta. Hope we'll get more beta newsposts soon...
  8. I received my e-mail earlier this hour. I assume they're all being sent out now.
  9. It looks like we know about most of the upcoming updates. But the big news is that the RuneScape 3 Beta signups begin April 3rd, there is instancing and hardmodes coming to God Wars, and that Castle Wars and the Duel Arena are getting a graphical overhaul.
  10. About 13,000 more essence until we reach the lowered 100K limit. I do hope we actually hit that target.
  11. It doesn't seem so. I think the e-zine is only available on the digital edition for download. I don't have a subscription to that though so I'm not sure. Maybe Jagex will make it available to download seperately from the issue, considering it's an advertisement?
  12. They even took out an 18 page Special Advertising Feature in PC Gamer to talk about the history of RuneScape and what's coming in RuneScape 3. (http://www.pcgamer.c...nescape-e-zine/) It seems like they're taking it quite seriously to pay for such a splashy looking e-zine.
  13. Looks like we saw the first of a few live updates where they roll out parts of the new HTML5 engine. Mod Chris E just put up a sticky on Recent Updates.
  14. I agree Urza, it looks like it'll be huge! I wonder if those who paid for the Gold, Silver, Bronze tiered memberships will hear more about an HTML5 beta coming next month. I can't wait for more news on this update. An old Q&A said that HTML5 would also enable WASD movement for characters (In addition to an ability to zoom in up to first person) - I wonder if that would be too huge a change to have.
  15. Oh wow, the in-game helm versions of the masks actually look great. My friend has the helm version of the crawling hand one: it's a bit creepy but, very detailed. It even has an emote.
  16. It looks like the Official Wiki categorizes them as Squeal of Fortune items. I have mixed feelings about such double exp items for one skill as a microtransaction exclusive. Slayer's challenge (and fun for some) is because it does take a while to train and go through all those thousands of tasks before 99. It's supposed to be released March 22nd so we'll see fairly soon what they look like in-game. Edit: Reading through each Wiki description, what's new is that a bonus remains even after the double experience expires. The double exp part resembles pendants: For example double drops and double exp from "The Helm of the Kura". But after the charges expire it becomes the "Helm of the Kuraski". Maybe the version with charges depleted will be available by normal means ingame? But I guess we won't be sure until tomorrow.
  17. The Q&A accomplished the biggest thing it needed to for me, it built expectations and made me look forward to the rest of 2013. If archaeology is indeed one of the rumored new two skills, it seems to confirm how Mod Osborne kept mentioning how 2013 would be a big year for lore. On a sadder note, we're only at 71.9K essence at the Guthix memorial altar. It doesn't seem like we're on pace to 250,000. :(
  18. Hrm, and here I What? I don't understand what they fixed with regards to adventurer rerolls, I thought those were working fine? Hrm, and here I thought that I wasn't getting Adventurer's Rerolls out of sheer bad luck the past few weeks.
  19. You can easily find the Guthix Butterflies around each major lodestone teleport location. No need to hang around Falador fighting with the crowds. (I found my 20 near Port Sarim and Yanille.) On another note, you can speak to Memstix again to review memories, so if you accidentally click through them you're fine.
  20. I'm worried that the vote tiers are set at such a level where 250K+ votes will make 2007-scape come back with a dedicated development team and less/no additional fees to support it. I'd prefer the Dev Team spend their microtransaction and membership fee war chest on improving the current game rather than fracture development time and effort on multiple versions of the game. More importantly, people need to know this is not a yes or no vote; Gerhard says "If you are against the idea, then you should - naturally - abstain from voting." It seems odd that the way to voice disagreement is to stay silent. Even though the vote is members only, hopefully they won't include a "No" or "I'm not sure but am kinda sort ok with it" middle option that will confuse people who want no 2007-Scape into participating. That it's a participation based referendum is currently buried deep in the post. On a side note, wouldn't it be funny if real life political referendums were decided based on how many people didn't show up to vote?
  21. Yep. Since it's a one-time payment once the time you paid for (i.e. the 12 month subscription) lapses, they will resume charging you your usual $5.00 per month rate.
  22. I wish their marketing team was more adept at timing this with a front-page news-post and a forum thread. People easily saw the different subscription tiers on the Subscription Page, as well as in the in-game Chat Box, before a forum thread or post could clarify how long the plans would last (i.e. is it just a Holiday special?), why they are calling it a "Premier Club", and so forth. What bothers me though is that, especially after reading through this thread, some of these deals are excellent, if not solid - even the Bronze tier one, considering that an outfit on SGS can sell for 260-1K+ RuneCoin, is good. The RuneScape community has always been very reactionary and this easily could have been much better timed. It would be awful if good membership deals were dragged into a microtransaction debate before they are even properly "launched." I mean, earlier today Mod Mark was on Reddit doing an AMA; their CM team has never been stronger (they're on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube - I wouldn't be surprised if they popped up on Pinterest quicker than you can say "Penguin"). At the very least, it'll only be half a day before we see these announcements (I hope). (An aside: Isn't it unbelievable that <12 hours, [insert social media spiel], is enough time to generate a marketing snafu? I remember when the Official Forums had an entire month to properly pickle a BTS, now we sort of pre-empt even the announcements. :P)
  23. Just wanted to add that you're doing great work archiving all these old sites and curating all those images from RuneScape in years past. I wonder if it's possible to pressure/contact the websites using images without to give proper credit to images they use. I know I haven't seen the majority of the images until I read your thread today (I've only been playing since '05) and I think they're fantastic. At the very least, if the original picture-taker isn't around to request permission from - the source should be credited/cited.
  24. I attended last year, October will be a bit hairy to schedule but it sounds like this year it's going to be on a much larger scale than before. Scavenger Hunt and the Trivia quiz were fun - still have the sweater from I think tying for 2nd or third place. Definitely going to try to make it this year.
  25. Rsvote, I intended to write out a reply to both of you hopefully to address both of your concerns at once, especially considering you agreed with most of Earth's opinions. However because of the length of the response, and to be honest, I was worried that a giant wall of text would prove intimidating I broke it into two individual portions to make sure it was more readable. I think the major issue you have with my piece remains that you do wish I could have talked more broadly about industry as a whole and the lack of direct citations. Unfortunately that is beyond the scope of my intention with the piece. I wanted to give the RuneScape perspective in 2007 and I admit that I flirted with exploring the topic much more broadly. But I feel such an effort would produce a piece that would have been far more lengthier, far more prone to error, and far more like a research paper than a summary. Many people were excited about the return of Free Trade and the Wilderness and in the community in which I was part of - which I freely admit this piece was intended for in the first place, aimed immediately to talk ecstatically about how the removal of the Grand Exchange focused far too much on the positives whilst not even mentioning the potential threats that Jagex will have to talk to us about - which to me is the RWT threat, something we will have to certainly prepare for. I wanted to provide the RuneScape perspective and I think by hinting at the broader scope of things when I originally wrote it to be as a conversation starter for those larger industry trends. I think that I should have chosen the wording of the subtitle to the article more carefully to clarify that when I said "To understand the importance of this referendum one needs to understand the reasons for which the Wilderness and free trade were removed in the first place. This piece attempts to do so by examining the history of the period leading up to the removal of free trade and the Wilderness." I was referring specifically to the decisions made by Jagex and in RuneScape and not seeking to do an industry-wide observation piece. I did make an assumption when I submitted the piece to Tip.it that people would see it as a RuneScape focused piece. I think if after reading this piece that one of your criticisms (which I optimistically hoped would be given as a suggestion though ) was for people to ask "how is the situation in RuneScape similar to other things going on in the industry against RWT" or to chime in (if they had read pieces on it) with their own references to pieces on the subject - by saying that my references to these industry changes " warrants considerably more attention than this piece gifted. " I think while missing the purpose of the piece, does really achieve one of the goals I had for the piece - for people to think about this as one of the big industry challenges for MMOs and how they've tried to address/combat it over the past several years. Thanks for seeing the logic and reasoning behind the piece. Ultimately I think your main criticism stems from the fact that the piece left you wanting of more information. As I said this piece did not say Jagex had a silver bullet to solve the RWT problem, I will say this piece was not a silver bullet to answer and provide explanations on the level you are seeking. The best the piece can do is to provide the RuneScape perspective in 2007 to remind people of the threat that put in the updates that so many RuneScapers based on the referendum have been eager to repeal in the first place. I respect your decision if you feel my logic, whilst reasonable is ultimately incorrect - but I feel that one of the most important things pieces like this can do is "start" discussion on the subject, not be the be all end all. I know that I would not want to spend all my time acknowledging and responding to criticism - especially if the main issue appears to be "not enough information". I believe your ultimate grievance lies outside the purpose of my piece (which perhaps would have benefited better as a series on the subject, which was what I originally intended it to be - but I can't explore a subject like this for the paper on the RSOF, and I don't know if the Editorial Panel would be so interested in such a series from a nonstaff member) . I can only conclude by saying that the Tip.it commenting community is knowledgeable enough to provide the answers to acknowledge a piece for its merits, and to continue the discussion beyond the article itself with its active forum community. In fact, if you feel you can address the portions you feel "I didn't give enough" on, absolutely write your own submission for the Times, I would look forward to reading it!
