Well, there are obviously different variables that need to be factored in, but I'd say that parents these days should give their kids a little bit more freedom to do whatever it is that they want. And if it's bad, they learn from their mistakes.
  2. Yes you are. I stopped doing it years ago.
  3. People touching my neck or ribs. That's a big one.
  4. I have issues looking people in the eyes as well. I don't know about you, but for me it's because I have a very direct stare - so I get the feeling that I might intimidate/make people uncomfortable if I do. Yeah. I get comments occasionally about the direct stare thing. Must be the bold brown eyes. Not like I'm trying to steal their soul or anything.
  5. Start yourself out with Nirvana songs. Then move onto The Beatles. Then move onto Dragonforce. You can do it! ... anyway, I started off with the same Squier pack that was aforementioned. The action is good for a beginner to learn with, and although the sound isn't the greatest, it's not like you're going to be sounding like David Gilmour in your first years anyway.
  6. The Dillinger Escape Plan - Irony is a Dead Scene Go for some Discordance Axis, too, if you're into that.
  7. The Beatles - pushed music further than any other band before them or after them. If you don't agree, consider the same band that wrote I Want to Hold Your Hand, Love Me Do and She Loves You ... you know, all those love songs, a few years later were doing I Am the Walrus, Revolution 9, Helter Skelter, Benefit of Mr. Kite, the entire second half of Abbey Road, ... I could go on. Not to mention all the 'firsts' that they accomplished.
  8. Music comes first. Lyrics are secondary. However, a good vocal melody is just as important as guitar/bass/drums/whatever.
  9. Bass is so much different than guitar as far as alternate tunings go ... really the only productive alternate tuning is tuning down.
  10. Reno 911!: The Movie Not as good as the series, but it had some good parts.
  11. Best: - The Pixies: Head On (originally by the Jesus & Mary Chain) - Pearl Jam: Love Reign O'er Me (originally by The Who) Worst: - Korn: Creep (originally by Radiohead)
  12. Weird one. Had I not seen Nirvana's Unplugged performance when I was eight or so, I'd probably still be in college trying to get an office job or something that I would eventually grow to despise. But now I'm doing what I love. And I couldn't be happier, y'know?
  13. I feel the same way, and I'm far from gay - not that being gay is a bad thing. I go to a boy's school so this "fine appreciation" of the male body is discussed with relatively little hounding occuring. It's a social taboo for a guy to admire another guy for his looks. But turn it around and place a woman admiring a woman for her looks, and it's perfectly okay. Just another case of society going backwards. We'll get it right one day ... riiight?
  14. Attraction ... physically, the eyes. Ironically I can't look someone in the eye that often if I like them. Repulsion? Uh, I don't know. Bad teeth?
  15. You can't be serious? High school is completely what you make out of it. You'll get many different stories from many different people detailing their high school experiences, so there's really no way to simply pinpoint what you're going to go through for four years. Just make the best of it, because it'll be over before you know it.
  16. I'm your new resident music nazi. Sorry.
  17. King Gheedorah - Take Me To Your Leader. If you're down with the sci-fi hip-hop, that one's for you. Also, Tonedeff's got a great flow. I'm starting to get a little more into Quasimoto and Mr. Lif as well, the latter being a new favorite of mine.
  18. No matter which band you prefer, surely you have to concede that Wonderwall is a better song than Country House? Wonderwall being one of the most overrated Oasis songs, is still better than Blur's entire discography as far as relevance and songwriting skill. Except maybe 'The Universal'. That's the only Blur song I can tolerate.
  19. Mozart's Requiem Mass.
  20. If you're diggin' the Kasabian, you'd be well off to give Oasis a try. You know, the real deal. Find these songs: Morning Glory, Fade Away, Don't Look Back in Anger, Lyla, Cigarettes & Alcohol, Rock & Roll Star, The Masterplan, Champagne Supernova, Acquiesce, and Live Forever. You've heard Wonderwall already. Who hasn't?
  21. Going solely by Pink Floyd and the Kaiser Chiefs ... oh boy ... Okay. There's The Mars Volta. Spacey sounds of Pink Floyd meets the power of Led Zeppelin, and throw some King Crimson in there too. And some post-hardcore. Key tracks: Drunkship of Lanterns, Day of the Baphomets, Roulette Dares, Cassandra Gemini. And if you haven't heard King Crimson, find yourself a copy of In the Court of the Crimson King. The middle drags a bit on first listens, but once you're into it, it's great. Nick Drake. Pink Moon. Enough said. I suspect you should already like The Beatles. But if for whatever reason you don't, you better find yourself a copy of Sgt. Peppers and the White Album, and maybe Magical Mystery Tour. Get yourself some herblore points and enjoy the music.

If you're going for the sad singer-songwriter emo kind of deal it's good ... if you're into that. I don't know how far you're wanting to go exactly as a musician or if you're up for challenging yourself with additional arrangements behind the guitar ... but I'd say (if you've got the necessary resources) try and make it stand out amongst all the other songs that deal with the same subject matter.
