  1. 1920x1200 on a 17" screen is ridiculous. Too many pixels on a screen that's too small for them all. But if it works, it works, and that's how I'm going to answer. Go with what works best for you. My lappys 1920X1200 17", and it works great. Yeah. It is smaller than I'm used to (although I'm going to use my 22" monitor as a main anyways once I get a DVI to HDMI adapter) but I will say that games look fantastic on a 17" @ 19200x1200. TF2, UT3 and stuff are all really crisp.
  2. Seriously though, the stock intel heatsinks all come with thermal paste applied. If you're worried download Speedfan and check your CPU temps. :)

It's a fine scene but I have a few problems with it. - It's pretty boring. Nothing really is going on. - The color scheme is kind of dull. - The planet is ok although you over did the glow around it. Get rid of the glow on the shadowy side. - The bright stars are all too focused around the center. You never have any reason to look anywhere ellse but the center of the scene, where everything is going on. - Aaand... the center is a kind of boring place to put it all :) - Too much noise on the stars, there are way too many of them - Not much depth. The planet has a bit of it, but the scene just doesn't look spacey because it's so flat. Try photomanipulating in clouds or something, for nebulas, to really give it some depth. And check out alyn's deviantART page if you never have, http://alyn.deviantart.com
  4. Law schmaw :P Seriously though, keep in mind windows on a mac is going to run another $100. Also it depends if you're looking for a gaming notebook or just a normal one. Netbooks are pretty bad [wagon], for example, if you just want something small.
  5. For the first thing [url=www.yourbadblog.com]MY BLOG!!!!!!!!![/url] MY BLOG!!!!!!!!
  6. As far as a laptop goes, I would really watch best buy's ads each week. Usually best buy is overpriced, but they can get some crazy good deals. I.E I got my current laptop (2.2ghz Core2duo, 9800M GTS 1GB, 4GB DDR3 ram, 320GB HD, 1920x1200 17" monitor) for around $1,000 at best buy last week. I would go for a windows based machine because even the macbooks apple loves to try and overprice.
  7. 8.6ghz? I sure hope that's a typo because if not it's [bleep]ing [developmentally delayed]ed. Whatever dude. Have fun with your $1,000 brick. No, most of us actually didn't -- at least I know me and sloter didn't. I recommended him a great pre-built PC for $700 he seemed happy with, and then decided he wanted a dell until he decided he wanted to build something. And we aren't responsible for his computer. HE is the one building it, HE is the one making decisions here (lord knows he isn't listening to any of us) and HE will be the one to deal with an expensive brick of a machine. When he is saying stuff like "oh well I'll look inside my computer to see how it's set up" you know it's set for trouble. But like I said, whatever, it's his money.
  8. In all honest I'm still not entirely sure what was wrong with my original suggestion over a month ago. But honestly? If he wants to buy something that may turn into a $1,000 brick once he [bleep]s it up fine by me. After all it isn't MY money he's spending here. But yeah he doesn't have a damn clue what he is doing, I don't know how he thinks he will build a PC.
  9. Wonderful OP, you're just begging for stuff.
  10. http://hcidesign.com/memtest/?? Now if I could only access the internet on that computer. #-o Yeah that. You pretty much just put it on a floppy or something that can boot.
  11. I usually just sit "indian style" (legs both crossed and resting on the chair) when I'm on the PC. Every once and a while I'll move to where it's like the picture Jaerk posted :)
  12. My roomate played Diablo II with me for an entire day on vista without any problems.
  13. Once everything is up and running I would run Memtest just to make sure.
  14. Both builds are viable. I'm sure the full arcane is better but I will find it hard to give up Shatter, Cold Snap, Ice barrier, Deep Freeze and Water elemental.
  15. Where are you that you're using a Kansas City connection for speed test sloter? Reason I ask is I go to college in Kansas, and am like 3 hours away from Kansas city. :P I am in Virginia. Hughes Net, which is satalite internet must be based some where around there or Kentucky i believe. Ah I see.
  16. Turns out my roomate who was going to do DK/Mage with me is playing his Hunter instead now. It's fine, because he's good at the class, but it'll be interesting. As such I'm starting to think of PvP builds for myself in the arena once I hit 80 here. Here are a few: 61/11/0 Arcane/Fire Pretty much just based around the idea that Arcane has a lot of instant casts. I was reading an article a few days ago on class balance, and the author really picked arcane as one of the big trees in the arena right now. Of course I never noticed until now that Arcane Barrage is instant cast. The buffs in 3.0.8 should help a lot. The fire bit is just for the shorter cast fire blast, extra crit and the pyroblast/silence immunity help. 18/0/53 Frost/Arcane Mostly just a standard frost build. It's what I'm using (for the most part) right now while leveling. It'll have a lot of control which means I can keep the enemy where I (and my team mate) want them, and an Imp Counterspell Shatter combo would [bleep] up any healer. I'm also thinking about an Arcane/frost build, something like 51/0/19 at the least. I would be able to go down to shatter which could help for extra damage. I don't think it'd be worth the loss of an instant cast pyroblast. (although I may even pick up 3/3 frostbite in the arcane/fire build just for ice armor frostbite procs)

  18. Dinged 70 :) . HP is a good bit better now. 7.1k HP, 640 Spell power, 20% crit [molten armor]. So not that great but a lot better than before...
  19. I'm checking them out too, same album. Never heard of them before now. Sounds very interesting and unique. Yeah it's incredible. Listened through it without many distractions, it's a wonderful album. I think it will still take a good long while until I fully understand it though.
  20. It's just making the processor faster through the BIOs. I wouldn't worry about it.
  21. Madulin of the Well's Bath (Album) Quality is wonderful.
  22. Yeah it's just the name of the processor at all. "Q" are the quad's, and "E" are dual cores. Don't get a different fan unless you are going to overclock.
  23. If you're willing to pay over $300 for a CPU then, fine, get the Q9400. I think it's a waste of money personally and would get a Q6600 but do what you want.
  24. Of course I usually get pretty crappy overall download speeds, not near the speed of when I'm in my dorm. (this is at home).
  25. Yes steal more stuff to help make work better, brilliant. I know it's not stealing to use a resource, but somewehere along the line the artist has to do something themselves you know.
