what is the best pc for gaming only?
Typo? Seriously, $40,000? WTF.
-
What did you get for Christmas?
- $50 (bought CoD 4 with it) - Nice jacket - Couple of shirts - Simpsons the movie - $20 FYE (music store) gift card - $20 Blockbuster gift card Mom also bought me (today) a nice card shelled suitcase to carry my PC in with me to and from college (on the plane) :D I didn't really want much this year, especially considering how much my parents are paying for a good chunk of my tuition (not all of it, but most).

New computer .o. +Help Please.
Yea, it's just an IP blocker. Don't worry, I'm not giving up on vista just yet : P It would seem pretty unreasonable just to go back to XP right away.. Hmm... I could have sworn you could block IP's using windows own firewall software, or any kind of firewall. Perhaps I am mistaken? Do you actually manually put IP's in it for this or is it a filter that doesn't allow people on certain sites (adult sites and such)?

.
What is it doing, exactly? I mean does it just freeze, does it not show anything, does it give you an error message... does it just play very slow? There are a lot of reasons for videos to not work, we need more info on what it is doing.

what is the best pc for gaming only?
Man, this is a vague question if I've ever seen one before.... - What is your budget. The best kind of PC largely depends on how much you can spend, because they varry so much. You can build a machine for $500 or $20,000... it all just depends on how much money you have to throw at it. - Are you going to be buying this prebuilt from a manufactuer (Dell, Falcon Northwest, HP, Ect.) or are you going to be buying the parts and building it yourself. Buying the parts to build yourself is, obviously, the cheaper choice but is harder as well and for someone who does not have a good knowledge of computers it isn't advised (unless you hire someone to build it). - what games are you playing? I mean, if you're just playing runescape and older stuff such as CS 1.6 there is no point in spending 2,000 bucks on a great PC when a $500 one will do the job right. Likewise, are you going to be playing the latest games on this machine? Do you want DX10 or DX9 capabilities? We really need some better answers, or else I'm just going to link a ~$22,000 some computer build from Falcon Northwest as it really is the 'best' desktop you can get.

Widescreen problem
Generally the resolution should be 1450x900 (IIRC) or 1650x1050, depending on the size of the monitor. It may be 1920x(something) if its a very large monitor.

New computer .o. +Help Please.
Man, so helpful... first sight of a problem and both of you tell him to jump ship back to XP. Anyways, I've tried doing a google search for a vista based program but I'm not sure what exactly it does. Is it just an IP blocker, or does it have a different use? I'm almost positive there should be some sort of software like it out there, I just can't really find it because I don't know about this one.

Figured it out - LOCK PLEASE
You sure its a mini right, and not a micro? I ask because I was under the impressions all cells used micros. Anyways I would just put it in the smaller slot, and keep trying until it fits.

All My Sigs - Abstract Sig & The One Ring
This one is actually your best so far, great job. The brushing is very well done -- I like the style and it looks like you are starting to really get a good sense of color theory in you. Also, I don't know if it was intended or not, but the focal point is done well -- leading you up to him and then down to the text. My only large crits for this are, first, the guy is a little odd. I know and understand what you are doing but looking at it too much it starts to look strange. Perhaps keep a bit more of him in the signature? The text also is still poor. It's difficult to read, and while it does fit well I would make it more readable. This one is ok too, but IMO you overbrushed the render and some of the oranges you used are fairly meh. However you did the text well, props on that. Really however, the improvements you are making here are phenominal. If you keep it up like that you'll be a great artist in no time. I'm just really happy to see someone taking in criticisms and applying it to his further works. Great job again, keep up the good work.

new laptop
Stupid, Dell's are well made especially for their price. I don't have much experience with their laptops however. Anyways this guy has 2 threads going on, so can we just use the other?

new laptop
Yeah, except for the fact you can't upgrade a mac save for ram. If a part is outdated you're screwed. At any rate a mac is out of the question. Now, looking through the computers Cruiser posted I think I would recommend THIS Laptop. Why? Window's XP (you don't need vista for just web/runescape, and anyways vista would run kind of poor on a low spec machine). It also has an intel 2 core duo processor (1.5ghz) which is great for general multi tasking / web browsing / ect. needs. Also comes with a decent 80 gig hard drive (I don't think you'll use much?) and a gig of ram. Seems pretty good to me.

What game(s) did you last get?
Call of Duty 4, recently.

Anybody play skate. for 360?
Its a great game. I rented it once (didn't have the cash to buy it) and had a ton of fun.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Heh man, CoD 4 is pretty intense. I haven't played the single player yet but I did dab in some multi player. I absolutely suck right now (haha) but I'm having fun. Was playing this small map with boxes (don't remember the name) on team deathmatch, really funny.

More RAM or Not?
What is the rest of your rigs specs? Getting even another 512mb of ram, in most cases, will really help towards performance in general. You will be able to do more tasks at once smoothly, so if you're having slowdowns at all in runescape or while on the web extra ram is great (and cheap too!). But yeah if you have the money go ahead and go for another 512 of ram or so. I'd say you could upgrade to 2gig's but thats unnecessary for the web/runescape unless you're running vista (in which I would nearly just recommend 2 gigs to anyone than).

Official TIF Holiday Thread!
Dude, do you ever go to bed before 1AM :P ? Very rarely. Generally only if I have an 8AM class, and even then I usually stay up to at least 1 or 1:30. Most times I'm up to 3-4, at least. I'm a night person. :P

Heh, technicaly its Christmas now (1:27 AM). To be honest it just kind of snuck up on me. Usually each year I await anxiously for christmas day, this year it was just kind of like "eh, it'll show up when it shows up".
