I bet you never knew... ~\500+ facts collected/~
It was called "Ghost Town" on the earliest maps. With the creation of the Widlerness it was renamed "Edgeville" and a general store and bank were added - prior to that it was just some place you'd go to access the Ghost Town dungeon.

Runescape Classic Fact Sheet -updated july 29-
Ah yes, who could forget LKJ (front-runner in the "nicest player" thread of '02 and one of the "three ladies" alongside sisters LadyKalica and Ladycali - LadyLinda didn't count as she wasn't related). True, at the time people were playing it for fun - but there was still such excitement as everdred cut those last few trees to be the first to 99 of any skill.

Warrior, Ranger, Miner, Wizard Or Adventurer?
Although back then it would have been the Ghost Town Dungeon (unless you joined post-Wilderness).

Gamasutra- interview with Jagex CEO Iddison
There is my site MechScape World which is the first MechScape fansite. Most of the latest information is in the Confirmed News Section on the forum. The forum's gallery also has much more concept art in it than the main site's one. There are some other sites which aren't mine, but they are less comprehensive and mostly just copy the early research I did for MechScape Central.

Jagex appoints THQ Creative Director as Head of RuneScape
I'm glad they found someone - they've been advertising that post since May/June when Imre Jele left to become project director of the Volatile Games division at Blitz Game Studios. According to MobyGames our new Head of RuneScape is credited with working on:

15 Aug 2008 - Future PvP Updates
I used to love being able to PK anywhere, it was really fun. This 2001 post from Robin Hood is a good example of how people were against "PK anywhere" being removed from RuneScape: Along with his follow-up post: (Of course, Robin Hood went on to be one of the top Wilderness PKers. Oh, and by "900+ players" he means the majority)

Runescape Classic Fact Sheet -updated july 29-
Lol dude.. go to bed and think again in the morning.. bb6 has never ever been banned, he doesn't even have a single black mark on his account.. Here's a list of top100 offenders of the mass ban: Ah yes, the mass ban of February 2004 in which 957 players got banned for "cheating and using macro software to automatically play the game for them".

New head of runescape
I wrote that. Quests are written in RuneScript, as are NPC and other interactions. Hence only the technologies (tools/engine) department need to be Java-savvy.

RuneScape High Detail To Be Debuted At E3
Where exactly did Jagex say that, care to post a source? http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/883/883931p1.html - but IGN may have got their wires crossed a little.

What do you think Jagex does with it's money?
"Since 2004, Jagex has donated over £200,000 to various charities" (source)

What do you think Jagex does with it's money?
Their balance of "how much we put back into RuneScape" vs "how much we invest into other projects / keep in the bank for next year / give to our shareholders (primarily Andrew Gower)" directly effects your gameplay experience because it decides how many developers there are, how much customer support there is, etc.

RuneScape High Detail To Be Debuted At E3
It isn't. WOW is first and Habbo Hotel is second. RuneScape is the second-most subscribed MMOG as per mmogchart.com.

What do you think Jagex does with it's money?
I'm definitely not offended by being asked to provide sources for information. People should be able to back up their claims. 1. Jagex had an 05-06 turnover of £16.8m with pre-tax profits of £10.2m, giving them a profit margin of 60.7% - they also had a dividend payment of £5m (source, source) 2. Jagex had an 07 turnover of £28m with pre-tax profits of £15m, giving a profit margin of 53.5% - they also had a dividend payment of £8.6m (source) 3. "Blizzard has a profit margin of over 40% on their monthly fee" (source). 4. "estimates that in 2007 the title will generate revenues of $1.1 billion with operating margins of more than 40%, creating some $520 million of operating profit" (source). I hope those sources are satisfactory.

What do you think Jagex does with it's money?
Actually, that is not the case for Jagex. As I stated earlier their pre-tax profit margin was 60.7% in 05-06 and 53.5% for 07 (and that's with the money invested into FunOrb/MechScape/Hi-Def). WoW's profit margin is 40%.

What do you think Jagex does with it's money?
Well, they do have free fair trade tea, and some members of staff go for two teabags per cup due to the cup's 3/4pint capacity (tho some staff also bring their own teabags).

Jagex have been investing heavily in MechScape (it has been under development since 2005), and investing in FunOrb. 4. Jagex employ around 400 people with an '06 average salary of c£24,000 (that's around £9.6m in staffing cost).

'NextScape' (MechScape) to launch March 2009
It seems like Jagex are already talking about NextNextScape... http://www.myth-games.com/news3416.htm

Why did you choose tip.it Forums
When RSOF closed TIF was like the only decent forum.

'NextScape' (MechScape) to launch March 2009
MechScape's release will mean more support requests are required, but not more developers - they've had a separate development team working on it since 2005. In that sense the release will mean Jagex can start recouping the costs of MechScape so that it isn't subsidised by RuneScape subscriptions. And any money going into technology development (e.g. new graphics mode) due to MechScape directly benefit RuneScape players as they share tools and core coding between projects. Also, you are talking about NextScape and MechScape as if they were two projects - it seems clear that NextScape is just the codename for MechScape.

'NextScape' (MechScape) to launch March 2009
http://www.developmag.com/news/30000/Ru ... on-new-MMO Last time Iddison spoke about MechScape he said Q1 2009, so this is more specific. Jagex also said that FunOrb games cost less than £12k each to develop. Note: If you want more information on MechScape then check out http://www.mechscapeworld.com/ (Feel free to move this topic if you think its in the wrong place)

Why are people so negative about riots?
Boycotting wouldn't solve the underlying issue of credit card fraud which is supposedly why the old version of the wilderness was taken out in the first place, so I don't see how it could bring the old wilderness back.
