  1. True it looks like WoW, but there are only so many combinations you can do..Neverwinter Nights had a circular map at top, controls at bottom and chat in bottom-left also. RuneScape Classic had map in top-right with chat in bottom left.
  2. Shield of Arrav would be a bit tricky...
  3. Similarly, Count Victor Draynor is unbeatable without hammer and stake.
  4. ...Or sarcastic.
  5. Player Owned Houses were on the official maps and in the game in placeholder form from launch until the release of the Item Bank on the 26th of July 2001 (they were in the east of Varrock and to the east of the White Knights in Falador). Andrew decided that there would be too many players for them each to have a house (and even too many for his second option which would be a house per clan), and that dynamically creating houses would have have to wait (five years it later turned out).
  6. Everdred was first to max out a stat by getting 99 woodcutting on Runescape on Tuesday the 28th of August 2001. RuneScape went into closed alpha testing in March 2001, was released as a public beta in early January 2001 (officially January 4th, but could have been a few days either way) and came out of beta on the 27th of February 2002 when Members/RS Premium was launched. Andrew was the only developer who coded it, but Paul and Moderator and others helped with the graphics and quests. Initially you didn't know what level people were, so fighting someone was riskier. I was there. It looked exactly the same. That is authentic. Andrew originally posted it on his personal homepage, then later re-posted it on RuneScape.com. Yeah, it'd say like "The Banker is busy in the moment". They kept adding more Bankers to meet demand.
  7. 1. Jagex are aware that people liked the old system. But unbalanced trade allows for real world trading which led to credit card fraud, chargebacks and troubles with the bank. 2. Hence Jagex did it not because they wanted to, but because they had to. 3. Hence it doesn't matter how much people want Jagex to reverse the changes. Unless someone figures out a better way of preventing unbalanced trade then the issue isn't on the table for discussion. 4. Hence Jagex can't change their mind. 5. Hence the riots have no effect.
  8. Jagex are currently hiring for French player support, French translators and French localisation testers - it hasn't been forgotten. The job advertisement for the Localisation Manager said "At present, the department consists of two teams of German and French translators, but this shall be expanded upon to include additional languages in the near future" - meaning they intend to do multiple additional languages in addition to French in the near future (AKA more than just Portuguese). Don't forget that Iddison recently said in an interview "We do plan to go East with it to the Asian market and the Eastern European market too...China, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, they're all different markets. There are markets in Asia that are more relevant to RuneScape than others. RuneScape is not for Japan, but it could work well in Malaysia for example. And where's India in all this? I think RuneScape is a game that would be adopted in the english-speaking Indian world and the local-speaking Indian world. We're looking at all those markets individually". So at least we know it won't be translated into Japanese. (Waits for next week to post "Next language confirmed: Japanese" heh).
  9. Back in the early days most of the suggestions seemed to be for ridable horses. Back in October 2001 Joth suggested "Animal Helpers" - you could call that Summoning.
  10. According to a press release, Jagex will be an exhibitor at the E3 Media and Business Summit on the 15-17th of July 2008. They are also announced to be speakers at the Develop expo on the 29th of July: http://www.developmag.com/news/29907/On ... e-schedule They definitely seem more active this year.
  11. From an old Jagex recruitment document: Never quite happened for 2006, but subsequently they have announced French and Portuguese - so it seems that next could be Italian, Spanish, Dutch or Polish.
  12. 24k pounds a month? 24000 pounds? wouldnt that be much? (im dutch idk) private healthcare and gym membership? lolz!!!!! In England advertisements state the annual salary, meaning £24,000 per year (£2,000/2,500 per month). This amount does not take into account taxation and National Insurance, so the amount brought home is significantly lower.
  13. Seems like Jagex have decided on their next language: Portuguese. http://jagex.com/corporate/Jobs/Managem ... tuguese.ws Also interesting is the factoid that RuneScape encompasses over 2 million words (or is "the project" all of Jagex's works?). From an old Jagex recruitment document: Never quite happened for 2006, but subsequently they have announced French and Portuguese - so it seems that next could be Italian, Spanish, Dutch or Polish.
  14. I remember RuneScape having scammers, beggars, macroers and annoying people back in 2001. Proportionally less tho, perhaps.
  15. Jagex staff are hard working real people. Some go to Anime conventions, some go airsofting, some play RuneScape, some have matches of Magic: The Gathering (long-time favourite card game of Paul Gower). Jagex employees earn an average of c̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã24,000 but customer support (a lot of whom are on work placement from university) only earn ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã14.5-18k and have to get through an endless amount of work, regularly dealing with users who are rude and illiterate and knowing that their performance will regularly be sampled and scrutinised to determine whether they are meeting their targets and quotas. Jagex somewhat makes up for this by having many 'jollies', awards and job perks (e.g. private health care, free gym membership and trips to Tenerife). Jagex's Investigation in the Community Unit keep an eye on RuneScape-related websites and forums, but generally speaking employees are advised not to make it known that they work for Jagex (and even ex-employees are barred by NDA from talking about anything secret). Do some post incognito? It isn't unprecedented.
  16. Andrew Gower was actually asked about this a few years back on IRC:
  17. Everdred was the first to 99 of any skill. He got 99 woodcutting on the 28th of August 2001 at ~20:25 GMT/BST (according to my IRC logs from that day). The crucial tree was cut with a Runite hatchet axe (a valuable item at the time) provided by bluerose13x (screenshot).
  18. I managed to get the name me in 2001 on RSC, which would now be unregisterable because its too short.
  19. They have the same birthday, but not the same date of birth, as A.C. Gower was born in 1978 while Lightning was born in 1974. Does anyone know Paul J. Gower's birthday?
  20. Don't always trust Wikipedia. I'll go update it.
  21. Today it is his 29th birthday. He claimed to be 22 in July 2001 (he didn't say it was his birthday, someone just asked him what age he was). 2000-12-03 = 22nd birthday; 2001-12-03 = 23rd birthday; 2002-12-03 = 24th birthday; 2003-12-03 = 25th birthday; 2004-12-03 = 26th birthday; 2005-12-03 = 27th birthday; 2006-12-03 = 28th birthday; 2007-12-03 = 29th birthday.
  22. Based on my own research... The average salary for 2006 is c. ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã24,000 Industrial Placement Opportunities in Player Support: ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã12-16k Online Customer Support Team Member: ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã14k - ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã18k Quality Assurance Tester: ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã15k - ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã18k Industrial Placement Opportunities in Customer Relations: ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã16k Junior 3d Graphics Artist: ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã16k - ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã21k 2D Creative Artist / Web Designer: ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã18k-̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã20k Junior Graphics Animator: ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã18k - ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã20k RuneScape Online Support (for speakers of German and Engllish): ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã19k - 21K Online Customer Support Team Leader: ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã25k Graphics Team Leader - 3D Modeller: ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã25k+ Web Content Editor, Manager: ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã30k HR Manager: ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã30k+ Java Games Developer: ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã24k Systems Administrators: ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã30k+ Software Development Project Manager: ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã30-40k RuneScape Game Team Leader: ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã40k+ Online Advertising Sales Manager: ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã45-60k Chief Financial Officer: ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã60-80k
  23. Well, you can always post in the Compliments forum if you are a member.
  24. Everywhere except Lumbride was a PKing zone back when I died in 2001.
  25. It wasn't in Lumbridge, it was more like the cow field near Lumbridge.
