Actually, it looks like a giant, gnarled, clawed arm and hand, which is quite impressive :P I decided to buy it since I have an excess of fire and air runes and a defficiency of earth and water.

Fight Arena Guide - 702 + Safe Spot (2005) (AOW discussion)
Markkei replied to Impaler99's topic in General Guides
Yeah, all you have to do is take your time and be calm about the situation. Switch prayers casually, there is no need to rush actually. I also thought to switch back to range protect after each attack, but it is actually not needed. Even for the range attack, the boss gives enough time for you to switch to range protect without being hasty. You do not have to kill the healers. Just attack them all once, and it's better to have only 1 attacking you throughout the boss fight. If anyone needs more in-depth advice, I'm always available in-game for private messages and private messages here on this forum. -
Fight Arena Guide - 702 + Safe Spot (2005) (AOW discussion)

That was exactly my problem during the first few attempts. However, from the videos circulating around the forums, I saw that you don't have to be so quick about switching prayers. Take your time, and relax. Watch carefully, but not "too" carefully. Once I finally reached that state of calmness (after 3 previous attempts and a few videos), the boss fight was a breeze. Don't worry too much about the healers...just make sure you have only 1 attacking you. Or 2 at the most, they don't hit very hard to be much of a threat. You don't have to kill them, just attack each once so they turn on you and stop healing the boss. Also, so you don't really have to spend that much on bolt racks...I used a crystal bow for everything above the 180s until the final 360s. Then, just for the boss, I switched to Karil's. Though I must say...the boss fight kinda scarred me...I now almost get chills when I hear the sound effect for fire wave, since it's the same as the boss' sound effect o.o -

There is still a safe spot for the 180s in the northern area. Works all the time. I just beat the 702 using the switch prayer method. Turned out to be really easy that time, since I had previous experience. In fact, it wasn't even a challenge. 2 doses of prayer pot and 1 shark later he was dead. I didn't kill any healers either. -

Thanks ekaggen. My main problem is staying calm and collected through the whole battle. Even after 3 times of fighting it, I still can't stay perfectly calm and still get ahead of myself when switching prayer. I'll try not to be so hasty when switching... I'm not sure you have to really lure the healers away from the boss, since they like healing themselves once I attack them. I could be wrong, though, since I couldn't see the boss' hp from my angle. I'm off to try it again. However, this time I'll be using Karil's x-bow against the boss instead of the crystal. Hoping the extra speed will really help. -

Arghh, died. Was doing pretty well too. Though I couldn't see the life of the boss. Simple switching error. I always get shaky and switch prayers, thinking it's range, when it's magic. I'll get this eventually. Once a day on weekdays, maybe more on weekends. Ugh. It didn't help that my character kept attacking the healers automatically instead of the boss. -

I think you'll be fine once you give it another go. The only reason I went into a panic was because I didn't know what to do with the healers. The 11 they hit on me kinda scared me, as I thought I might lose the battle. Now that I know what to expect from them, things should go more smoothly. And I agree there should be some change to the way the game works. Losing to the boss after numbers of redundant rounds only to find yourself in the beginning is quite disheartening. I may just go ahead and fight the boss without this defense level. Doubt 1 would make a difference anyway. I suppose after this slayer task. Already starting to feel nervous. Heh. -

no need to worry about the healers hitting you with my mthod for 2 reasons: 1) They line up behind you, and only one will be hitting you.. they can hit up to 11, but rarely do they ever hit large and often. 2 sharks is more then enough. 2) the 702 will seriously be dead before you know it, he has such low hp and if your potted and ranging his arse he'll drop like a bag of patato's. Thanks :D I was surprised how fast it took to get it to half hp though. Must've been half a minute? This was also with a full crystal bow (I brought 2...1 for the regular enemies, the other specifically for the boss). Your post renewed my confidence, so I'll go again tonight after recharging a crystal bow and gathering a few more snape grass for prayer potions. If everything goes according to plan, I should be a proud owner of a Fire Cape tonight :P -

Nice job Vash. Though I'm still concerned about how often the healers hit. I'm soon to be 90 def, and I'll have maybe 5 sharks on me. I could use a super defense. Think I'll last the battle with that one healer attacking me? -

Thanks for the information ekaggen. Nice to know someone defeated the boss without the safespot :) I'll try luring the healers next time. However, will the 702 follow you when you run away? Or did you have the 702 get stuck? I'd like to use prayer against those healers too...don't want to take chances of getting hit too often. -

I tried the prayer switching. It was working great until the healers came, and I attacked one to make him stop healing. When the healer came to me, he hit an 11, I panicked, and that's when my "prayer switching rhythm" was disrupted. The end result is obvious. And yeah, right when I got to the boss, I was pretty nervous and was feeling numbed. It really is disappointing when you die after an hour and a half's worth of killing the previous enemies. I'll try again later tonight or tomorrow. This boss fighting really does take a lot out of me :P -

I suggest keeping Range protect on as the "default prayer." While you're fighting the boss, switch to range protect right after the magic attack, and keep range on after a range attack. This way, you allow yourself more time to switch to mage (if needed) right when you see the delay in the attack animation. If this confuses anyone, I'll try to elaborate furthur. This method seems pretty failproof to me; I'll try it as soon as I gather some more bolts and range potions. -
I speak English as it's my native language, Spanish from years of school, and a little bit of Japanese, which I am studying further.

Haha, that was quite amusing. Of course there are always people who've never seen it before (like me) so thanks for posting this!

Well, I didn't get any at all, since I haven't even eaten one in a while... So I guess that means I'm so incredibly unlucky since I never heard of the star; hence I expect horrible things to invade my future (which, actually, already are  ).

We get out of school in exactly 11 days, which is the 15th of June.

Ugh, SATs are now tomorrow. In fact, they'll start less than 12 hours from now. This'll be my second time taking the newer one, as I took it before in March, when it was first released. Got a 2090. Not bad, but not good enough. So I'm also going for at least 2200. Best of luck to all of us taking it.

I'm pretty excited, being a big Star Wars fan. A few friends and I are going to see it tomorrow (Thursday) right after school, so I can't wait. Then I'll probably see it again Friday and Saturday :D Really hoping it's good because well, Episodes I and II were a disappointment to me. Time will only tell.
