  1. santa I want to get into the rare market as well. Im currently at 29-30Mil and when i started saving for santas they were 32mil and now their almost 40mil... How much longer will they rise? Will they crash? Is now a good time to get one? They will rise indefinitely. They will crash eventually (and then start rising again). Yes, this is a good time to get one. I understand that, but i remember santas being stable at 30mil for a LONG time and their finally shooting up past that. Will they go back down to 30mil soon or will they stay stable at 40mil+? Santas were in the low 30s for 2 1/2 months. If you consider that a LONG time, then I wouldn't buy a santa. You should be flipping commodities -- you'll make money every day. I personally think santas will keep going up to about 60m, but who knows? I'm keeping mine for a long time. (I bought santas when masks took off -- dumped all my masks -- and I would like to see the santas roughly double before I sell.)
  2. you're not even close to a purple, unless you can trade those santas for something more confident like hooks and/or strong risings. not a lot of merchants will be looking for santas. Here's the flaw in your logic: Not a lot of merchants will be looking for purples either. You don't need particularly strong risings to buy a purple. (I'm not saying you can buy one with junk, but santas are pretty good right now. If you look long enough and have enough santas, you might snag a purple.) But you're exactly right about the other hats -- you'll need edibles to get one of those.
  3. Not even in the ballpark unless phats crash. Your best bet would be to try to get enough risings for a purple. With some work, you might find somebody willing to sell you a purple for pure risings. For other hats, you'll need edibles.

  5. When the price of the santa passes the price of the blue mask, I would sell the santas and buy masks.
  6. I get it, but this philosophical debate about the relative merits of useful items versus status items is a bit off-topic. In the end, it's really a matter of taste. (Fwiw, I sympathize with your position -- I can't relate to people who sell items that they use every day because they think the price will drop and they don't want to "lose" money.) Anyway, I think you got your answer from Master Smither. Here's what I suggest: Go to the Runescape Official Forum under Marketplace/Discontinued Items and explain your situation. You'll have people falling over themselves to try to do some kind of deal with you. Take your time sorting through the offers and negotiating to get what you want. When you're convinced that you've done the best that you can to get what you will enjoy out of the hat, pull the trigger. More power to you. I hope your good fortune enhances your game experience. Now if only I could find someone to sell me a red for two easters and a focus.
  7. 2 hours. 3 If you're not high enough to enter a decent clan. I was going to say this. If you hook up with an expert clan, it goes VERY fast.
  8. I'd like to hear some reports of the SOL against mith drags. Seems it would be ideal there. I always feel like such a newb using my leaf-bladed sword.
  9. There is a website where you can create a chat with you and a J mod so i don't know if this is real or not, considering it only shows the chat and not him ingame with him.. then... yeahhhh FAKE I'd be surprised if a J-Mod leaked valuable inside information in this limited way.
  10. You would make more money without the Santas. Its GE value is not nearly as elastic as its Street value, so the only thing you would really be able to do is trade it for something else. With that said, you have little to no chance of trading any amount of Santas for an edible or a partyhat because people would rather have masks and they are too unstable on the street. You could always use them to get rid of a small amount of junk, but my philosophy is to never get junk in the first place. It depends. It sounds to me like santas would not be good for you as it sounds like you want to make a lot of money soon. (Who doesn't?) As a short term investment, santas are uncertain. As a long term (up to six months) investment, I like them very much. They are relatively cheap right now and almost certain not to go down over the long run. I am not as confident that masks will go up from here over the next six months -- they're just so high right now. Here's what I'm doing -- I keep one or two hundred mil for short-term investment -- flipping things, etc. I also keep several hundred mil in longer-term things. For me, my long-term money is in santas right now. When I get an extra 35m from my short-term investments, I buy another. When they do shoot up (and they will eventually, although it may be months from now), I'll sell at that time.
  11. Yeah I read the whole post, and I'm not trying to start an argument here. You're the one trying to start a [bleep]ing flame war here. It was a legitimate question he never answered. Edibles have long been valued at around 60% the price of a santa hat, and aside from their use as a high-street item I'm unsure of what stops them from falling. Yes, you clearly are in the right here. Unlike santas, edibles have been bought out for a long time. Their street price is many times their GE price. (This morning, I saw someone in w2 trying to buy an Easter for 300m -- quite a jump from just a week ago.) Their primary use is as currency for partyhats and divine ss. My opinion is that as long as partyhats do not crash, neither will edibles. But if and when partyhats crash, edibles would be vulnerable, too. I think differently; Partyhats are less commonly traded on the GE. They will not reach their street price in a long long time. Edibles ARE being traded on the GE, and eventually edibles will hit their street value, and it becomes a 'non item' like mint cakes. It'll probably still be hoarded because people expect a rebound though. So I'm not sure. I suspect you have zero experience buying and selling these things. You can't buy edibles in the GE any more than you can buy partyhats. Both get traded very rarely in GE, but both require a herculean effort. You can't routinely buy edibles in the GE.
  12. Weird. I spend about half my playing time fiddling with the GE, and this has never happened before. Maybe the GE's getting overwhelmed with offers for the Staff of Light?
  13. I just tried to adjust my GE offers and, in each case, received a prompt in my chatbox saying, "This offer cannot be aborted at this time. Please try again later." That's a new one on me. I'm not sure what it means, but it's hard to imagine that it's good?
  14. It is probably a lot of the melee noobs or rune pures who don't think they can get it because they have low stats. I have done it with 65 range, 40 def before though. It really isnt about your levels too much, just your strategy. I hope they don't get rid of this requirement though, anyone with 93 slayer should easily have the stats and money to get the cape. This exactly. I'm not complaining even though I've never tried fight caves because I don't usually play that long at one sitting. But here's the way I'm looking at it -- I'm only 90 slayer now. So I have plenty of time to figure out the fight caves before I even have to worry about being limited by the lack of a fire cape. My guess is that the universe of people who actually have 93 slayer and DON'T have a fire cape is very small indeed. I think this new idea is needed. Without this, the fire cape is rendered almost useless by the soul wars cape. Now the fire cape gets new life, which it needs.
  15. I wonder what the existence of the new slayer gear will do (if anything) to existing mage/range headgear?
  16. Yeah I read the whole post, and I'm not trying to start an argument here. You're the one trying to start a [bleep]ing flame war here. It was a legitimate question he never answered. 17. Mints performed a useful function, and I certainly am finding it harder to trade for easters and partyhats now that they're gone.
  18. One category that's being ignored here is quest requirements. When I've trained a skill, it's usually to do a quest. Also, bunyip is a big one in summoning.
  19. just because mint cakes are gone doesn't mean there cannot be a substitute for one. ;) hooks are doing fairly well. they're relatively expensive at 15-20m. Also, level 3 CS rewards like croziers and trimmed d'hide are all potential risings that "could" become the new mint cake since they fit the criteria as the cheap and hard-to-get risings. Well certainly some day there will be a new hot item, but as for now it seems like things are all muddled. Before the mint update there were constantly people selling/buying easters, but now it seems like no one really wants the eggs because there really isn't much activity with them. Maybe I'm just telling myself this because I'd like to be able to buy a parthat some day...lol. Things seem to have settled down now, but this morning there were several people in w2 trying to sell easters. The ASKING price was 195m.
  20. so far, red is the only mask "standing" out compared to other masks and santa. they're peaking at 150m street. I can't understand how they could have such a high street price when there are so many left in the game. 150m for an item that was about 6 months ago just 18m. Ridiculous. >_> There's a fool born every minute. Guys sell wolf masks on the street for 15m even though you can buy them in the GE. Put in an offer at max for the red. You'll have it within a week.
  21. I wouldn't count on this answer. He said it wouldn't be a money sink "like Construction." In fact, herblore is not a money sink like construction. Construction is intended to be a money sink, and if you play the skill as intended, you will spend a lot of money. That's the way it was designed. Herblore, on the other hand, is not necessarily a money sink. If you try to power train it, sure. But if you farm herbs and pick them up from drops and use those to make your pots, then it's not a money sink at all. It's just slow to train. I think Andrew was asked the wrong question. What he should have been asked is will the new skill be buyable. If it's buyable, it will be a money sink because people will power train it. But it still won't be a money sink in the sense that construction is. I'm not sure we know whether the new skill will be buyable (as herblore is).
  22. Yeah, sorry, for some reason I was thinking that he would try to snipe it off the GE thus making yellow the better money making option. Reading back it looks more like he'll be trading egg + cash / items for the phat so I agree with you now, green is the better choice. Green is getting close to egg plus cash (it was egg plus eight mint right before the mint nerf -- I know a guy who traded green for 41 mint right before the nerf (ouch)). Purple already is well below the egg -- should be buyable in GE soon. Red is about two eggs. Yellow is hard to buy without mints because the owner will want two eggs (which it isn't worth), but it's worth significantly more than one egg. That was the beauty of the mint -- it allowed fine adjustments in price that are very difficult now.
  23. I'll look into eggs. As for the Phat: Greens seem to be rarer from what we see (there could be a hoarder with a few hundred but chances are they won't release them into the economy). But the natural demand for yellows is higher because more people like how it looks compares to green. That extra little demand pushed yellow to be more expensive then green. Then since it's more expensive street for pretty much the same GE price, more people try to snipe one off the GE thus pushing demand up even higher. That keeps snowballing until you reach where we're at now, where green is rarer but yellow is more expensive. If you are buying a phat for looks: get the one you think looks better. If you are buying it for money making: Yellows in my opinion will always be higher then green Beware though: In event of a crash, since there are more yellows out there, they will crash faster and harder. Eggs are 220m. For investment purposes, I would buy the green. They're so much easier to buy right now. From an investment standpoint, I think it would be hard to justify buying yellow over green. If you're thinking that way, you'd probably be better off jumping clear up to red.
  24. How is Charos(e) useful in a context where one might otherwise use RoW?
