    Today...

Sbrideau, you may be interested in knowing that Google are running a 5-day sale on some apps on Android for 25c, with different apps being on sale each day. It just started today, and some pretty big name apps are on sale. Picked myself up an office suite for uni work, a fitness app, and a racing game. Odd, it shouldn't be. Android, and other Linux-based OSes (as well as Mac and iOS, could be the same with everything *NIX based) manage their RAM far differently to Windows, in that you don't need large amounts of RAM free to smoothly run your programs. Obviously, if you have some memory hogs running in the foreground you'll run into problems, but it's not a common problem that I know of.

No! Bad Sbrideau! Bad! Killing your apps is a very good way to flatten the battery. You see, in Android, and iOS, when you're not using an app and switch to another app the app is just put into a frozen state in your RAM. This won't drain your battery like using CPU cycles will, which is pretty much the only way for an app to drain battery life. If you kill an app and want to load it up again, it now has to load everything from the internal memory, rather than the RAM, taking longer and using up more of your battery. To test this just grab one of the many battery monitoring apps (I use GSam) and check the battery % usage of apps compared to how long it has been running. Just start up a game and then switch to your browser and don't open the game for a few hours. Now look at that nice 0.0% usage with a few hours of it running (provided it didn't get removed from the RAM to make room for newer apps.) If you really want to increase battery life, reduce your brightness. Even at roughly half-way, I can get more than 90% of my battery loss through the screen being on.

So I bought Borderlands in store today, as I actually had the money to and have bought everything I need to until December for Christmas presents, when I went to install it I noticed that it had aspirations to be something greater.

    Today...

Just had my first shower since my surgery on Sat, it was difficult. Because I can't get the dressings wet I used sticky tape to put plastic over it to keep the water out, but the water caused the tape to come undone. Would be so much easier if I could just get someone to give me a sponge bath instead. Alas, I live at home and my parents would not allow a fine lady friend to bathe me. I'm a tough character, I just need to remember to avoid lifting for 6 weeks. Don't downplay being unsure. I've woken up one morning not remember what happened the night before (and I hadn't been drinking) to find out I had a girlfriend according to facebook. Also, if you're going to play with emulators on android, use a PS3 controller and get the sixaxis controller app. I think it's roughly $1.50, but using a controller is so worth it. Now I just have to wait for the DS emulators to improve some more for my Transformer Prime.

Finally, I am home. Pretty gassy, and burping is painful.

Nah, there was no bag, and I've been told by a number of nurses that I should be getting discharged today, I just have to wait on a doctor. The most annoying thing right now is that an assistance alarm for one of the showers has been going for 10-15 minutes now. I've had 3 nurses come in to the room I'm in since it started going off and I'm surprised nobody has checked on them or turned the alarm off.

    Today...

Greetings from hospital! It's now Sunday morning and I've been here since Friday evening. I had an inflammed appendix which has been removed, and I'm now waiting to be told if I get discharged today or . Walking is a bit painful, but luckily I had my phone and tablet brought to me yesterday. I also get a free newspaper every morning, which also gives me something to do. I've received a number of phone calls and had a limited number of visitors, so I'm glad to know people care about me. I'm just really bummed out that I couldn't see Tim last night, and that I probably won't get to for a while now. I'll probably give him a call before he leaves at the very least.

I've got a cut on my arm that goes from the elbow half-way up my forearm, and I don't know how I got it. Stings a bit too. That WAS the invite. I also did it via FB which YOU deleted, feel free to come :P Oh. Well I better save the money I earn Sat morning then. Still the same, he goes to parties almost each week. They usually suck. Mind you, after the weekend I just had, I would have a top contender for the ever caught them thread if it still existed. I would, however, get told off by another thread that is on Off Topic though.

    If it doesn't involve Internet privacy, we don't care, seeing that we're not conservative middle-aged women. But why should we have privacy over the internet but not in real life? You're looking at two different kinds of privacy though. On one hand, you've got Kate Middleton who was outside, and what appears to be preparing to sunbathe, and I'm going to guess that the photographer was on public land. Closer however were breaking the law in France if they did publish them there. On the other hand, you've got people who are having their every actions online monitored. I'm going to go on in detail the importance of photography in public. Take for example where I live, we don't even have a bill of rights, so we have no expected privacy anywhere except if the person wants to take photos of us on our own property, this includes police officers, politicians, and high-ranking business officials; all provided you're not their employer trying to film them at work, their identity is not suppressed by a court order, or you're not trying to take voyeuristic photos of them when a reasonable expectation of privacy isn't assumed (eg bathroom or changing rooms.) Laws like this allow us to take photographic evidence of someone breaking laws, to take photographs of a friend/family member without worrying about whether someone else could appear in the shot, even if they're not identifiable. They also keep legitimate photographers safe, by not allowing people to seize cameras or film, or forceful deletion of digital files. This is obviously helpful if you've photographed or filmed someone engaged in illegal activities, such as battery or graffiti. Source: http://4020.net/words/photorights.php EDIT: I didn't have the time to go into good detail of the subject, as I had to leave for uni. I probably won't delve any deeper into it for Today... anyway. If people want I'll make a full, in-depth post on my profile blog. I didn't get an invite, I see how it is. ;-;

So much nostalgia. Watching Pokemon The Johto Journeys while I have dinner. After I finish with dinner it's off to get ready for a dapper evening with friends to celebrate a birthday of someone whom is leaving in a number of months to go far away for the army.

Wait, what. That link says that the Aurora shooter was dressed up as The Joker, I'm positive that the other reports on it I've read said that he dressed up with a mask like the one Bane wears.
  12. What are you, 7? My uncle is as holier-than-thou as Catholics come, and his kids still have facebook.

Current game I've been in has been running for nearly 3 weeks now. I've seen my target a few times on campus before I got assigned them, not I haven't seen them once.

Friends and I spent like a 35 minute drive doing the same thing, but it was a case of you had to come up with it on the top of your head. Wish I had written them down, there were some really good ones.

Yeah, I'm loving how much more cheery he has been lately.
  17. Wow, I chocked a kid at school because he took our handball spot. Only reason I stopped was because he finally got a punch to connect and got me in the eye. We saw the vice principal and he went off at the other guy, and not me. Parents didn't even talk to me about it.

Currently having an aircon war with my sister. We have ducted and so even when you don't turn it on for a particular room it still feeds a small amount of air into the room. My room has the sun facing towards it so it's very hot in here. I have the window open, and even though there's a breeze it's still fairly warm. She keeps turning the heat on for her room so it's getting very hot in here. All she has to do is put on more clothes, there's only so much clothing that I can remove. The sunlight is also blindingly bright in my room, even if I close the blinds fully.

Summer is December-February here. Plus I can assure you it's not that bad. If it gets too much over 40°C it can get uncomfortable.

I've never understood the reasoning behind the American schooling summer break. In Australia school starts early in the year (late January and finishes early December, I think uni starts in February.) The breaks are split up in to 4 parts, with the longest being between December and January. Definitely prefer it since it means that the schooling year is in line with the calendar year, and I get to relax a few times during the year. Its velocity in the 4th dimension changed, so we are no longer able to observe it. I see what you did there... Damn right you did. Now to hope I remember everything for my physics exam tomorrow.

Really tempted to get out my skateboard and replace the wheels, bearings, and trucks so I can skate to my uni class. If I had the money I'd also buy a shortened longboard so I could carry it easier. It's where your eyes, or in rarer cases, skin or hair, is slightly differently coloured due to lack or excess of pigmentation. Fun fact: it can be passed down genetically. Really need to find out which ISP my uni is with. I'm 95% certain it's one that has unmetered TED talk downloads (also means that I could update Steam games if I were to lug my desktop there.)

Finally get my assignments done, load up reddit, and what's at the top? An Ask Me Anything, from the American President, Barack Obama. A few hours too late for anyone here to ask questions, but many people will get a good read out his responses, along with the one of us chanting.

Finally got around to watching Heavy Metal and Wizards today. I dunno what it is about these cult films, I really like them, but I couldn't tell you why.
