Heres a little thread to get your mind off things. :D
Where do you spend most of your time in RS? If I'm not on a quest or building stuff in my house, you'll probably find me at the fishing guild. What else do you do when you're playing? Browse a few different forums, talk to my mates on msm, read What monsters (If any) do you usually train on? I don't really favour anyone monster to train on, if theres a particular item I need I usually train on the monster that drops it. What is your favorite combat skill, and why? Strength, erm for no particular reason. What are your 3 favorite non combat skills, and why? Fishing, Cooking, Construction. Do you train 'boring' skills to a certain level to be able to do things that might be more fun in the future? Yes, namely fire making.

Heheh Cheers for the mention.

The player with the one word vocabulary:"noob"
I agree. Especially if you gain a greater enjoyment out of a particular non-combat activity. Although theres a certain amount of satisfaction in sending monsters and sometimes other players into the next world, its not the only thing in the game. Enjoy your game. Disregard the label 'n00b' and its various manifestations, I'm fairly certain it doesn't apply to you. Good luck in your gaming.

Almost Got Scammed? Want To Tell Your Story? Post It Here!
Potentially the site owner could be charged with an offence against 1990 Computer Misuse Act as well. Mind you, I'm guessing that would be the last thing on their mind if the person was faced with naive, but psychotic wannabe p-mod. Something along these lines I would imagine.

The person thats hosting the app on that site isn't the sharpest tool in the box either. A simple look up on a 'who is' site provides the domain owners full name and postal address. I guess they can look forward to some interesting mail from Jagex Towers in due course.

Screeching halt. Unfortunately for anyone that can only use the 'phone or SMS method of payment for members subscription is unable to. At the time of writing I only have 1 days credit remaining on my account which basically means its either the lesser of two evils, A)Semi-retiring from Runescape until I can get membership restored to my account. B)Shoe-horning my game bank account with free to play stuff so I can continue training on the f2p crafting skills. I'm not completely sure which way I'm going with this, so I've given myself the option of both by making a load of steel stuff and either binning or giving away members stuff that hasn't been used in over a week. Maybe all the SMS and 'phone members will be fortunate and normal service resumed as quickly as possible. Failing that theres always Unreal Tournament or Anarchy Online. See ya soon, friends of Torti.

Things are leveling up quite nicely on the skills front and the fishers at the guild on World 83 got a few moments chatting with a J-Mod. Not something I've seen, so I thought it would merit a screenie.

What a coincidence!
The strange proliferation of accounts with 'torti' in them since the clan chat... And no, none of them are mine.

"Runescape : an education that kids don't need?"
Theres plenty to buy, apart from the obvious requirement of a PC, an internet connection of some semblance is required and I can't think of a ISP that will enter into a contract with a minor and for good reason. 2 a) 'Ease of access'. Of course there going to make the game easy to access, its their business! How on earth are they going to make it a viable, profitable business if it cant be accessed by members of the public. 2 B) 'Even if I don't want my kid playing it at home'. That comment falls more in the realm of a 'child-parent' respect debate, rather than any nebulous responsibility you wish to conjure upon Jagex. Can you 'shoulder up' as to why Jagex has some 'duty of care' to 'educate librarians or others' that the game should not be used by children? Do you have a grudge against teenagers playing a game, your starting to come across as a killjoy now. Is this intentional? Really? Thats your opinion, most of the 'kids' in my family find the graphics almost laughable in comparison to the 'eye candy' of games with superior resolution and detail and in that I'm not necessarily referring to anything that could be interpreted as having 'mature' content. Cite source, preferably a news feature that confirms that Jagex is directly targeting schools for fodder for there game, otherwise, it didn't happen. Oh this is so wrong I don't know where to start. Again its presumably back to Jagex to monitor what your child is doing whilst on the internet. I'd love to see that try and stand up in a UK Court of Law. If you choose to allow your child to have unrestricted access to the internet, then more fool you. If your child doesn't respect your parental authority sufficiently to respect your judgment on the matter, surely thats something for you to address by what ever means your deem fit? With regards to 'Parental Control' there are many solutions to this available on the Internet, many free of charge. I feel that a person that is able to design, build and host there own website would already be aware of this. Thats your opinion and I agree, your entitled to your view, if the experience isn't fun that Jagex marketed there product for, I guess the option of quitting the game might be viable option for you. Real life cant be much fun if you feel compelled to play a game that clearly you hold in such a poor light. If your really *that* concerned about the welfare of your own children that much, could I also be as bold to suggest that cancel any agreement you have with your ISP, sell any consoles, Personal Computers, Televisions, Handheld gaming devices, DVD players, CD Players (have you heard some of the lyrics in music these days? shocking!) and replace them with a harmless, good old fashioned game of cup'n'ball? In the meantime the rest of us that play this game, largely for the harmless fun in online gratuitous fantasy indulging but also for a largely positive social experience can play for free or if we're lucky/able to pay Jagex five bucks a month for access to the members content. I'm Giant Torti and this is, my 2 cents. Peace!

Trading me just to see an item! GRR!
Yeah thats really annoying. I suppose it wouldn't have hurt the "browsers" to politely ask something along the lines of "Could I just see that please?". I'm guessing this is probably the source of contention. Then if you wanted to show the item to the curious browser your interesting item you could. If you choose not to show the browser your items, they'd presumably have to find someone else to show them or see the item by purchasing it. Mind you its bank sale 'browsers' that have made me go self sufficient for my GP so in a way I guess it could be seen as a good motivator?

Your 2008 Runescape Resolution!
Mine are slightly more ambiguous, but I feel equally valid as the previous excellent goals. a) Attempt to have more fun than last year. B) Throw more change at Hobo. c) Have my shell shined to a mirror finish on a permanent basis. d) To foster random acts harmony and generosity among the brethren, irrespective of p2p or f2p status. e) Try and keep in contact with all my buddies in chat, theres so many of you, your all great, but poor ol' torti can only type so fast! Thanks for asking!

"Runescape : an education that kids don't need?"
I've just read the ten pages of the article on that site and to be honest it I feel it paints a very biased view against the game and Jagex. The first sentence in the opening paragraph is the key one however:- Its a fantasy, a pixellated illusion of a mythical land that exists solely in domain of Jagexs servers and the players that choose to play it. If a player, of any age, cannot discern what they are getting involved in is purely for amusement and role play, I feel that this is more an issue for the player or in the case of a child the parent. Also I feel that the comment, is just a tad overstated. I've seen avatars of both sexes solicit and attempt to solicit for rule breaking relationships, but unless you know the person sitting at the screen doing the rule breaking I think the charge of being a 'hornball' is bordering against a slur to anyone thats aged 13 to 19. Without screenshots, it didn't happen. Of course I'm not saying there is no scamming and that all trades are 100% legit, but I think a screenshot would have upped the credibility factor of the article. Parents responsibility. Are you suggesting that for 5 bucks a month or however much it costs depending on method and locality, that this becomes the duty of Jagex? So there was no thieving and mugging before Jagex rolled out Runescape? Sheesh its a game for crying out loud. What next, there responsible for alcoholism because theres beer and for members, cocktails in the game? Sorry if I come across as overly sarcastic, but the dialogue in this preview is fairly hard hitting, so I'm guessing that the author can keep 'there end of the log' spinning as it were. Ultimately, its a game and yes while there is probably a measurable minority of jerks that want to gain enjoyment out of making other players time a miserable experience, there just that, a minority of jerks. I don't think that Jagex will ever completely get rid of the 'jerk factor' but I feel that the over riding majority of players of different abilities, personalities, ambitions and opinions can collectively work together to encourage and foster a air of genuine friendliness, the 'jerk factor' will minimised, which can only be a good thing for all of us. (ps this doesn't mean I'm going to empty my bank to the next guy that asks for free stuff, but if you want advice on how to get the shiny stuff, I'll point you to the very useful AoW) I think the whole preview paints a very bleak picture of what is actually a fun and interesting pastime for many, its almost as if the writer is trying to say the only way to enjoy the game is to scam, harass, cheat and PK everything that sets foot over the 'trench of doom'.

Monday Poll: How many characters have you made in RuneScape?
Just the one account is plenty for me. Although I vaguely remember having a account on RSC, but was never members.
