Well its finally down to the last hit and that can only mean one thing...ITS TIME TO PAR-TAY! PLEASE REFER BACK TO THIS POST REGULARLY! LAST MINUTE CHANGES CAN HAPPEN AT ANY MOMENT DATE: Friday, March 20th TIME: 3:00 PM PDT (Pacific Daylight Time) LOCATION: Rimmington Mine WORLD: 30 That's right, I am a mere inch away from achieving my long desired goal of 99 mining and I am inviting you to be there, yes YOU! This journey has truly gained me friendships more than achievements, so what better a way to achieve 99 mining than to do it with the people I enjoy being with the most! This will be a party with a slew of achievements, including the celebration of one other than my own! Want to know whats you are in store for? Well read below for the delicious pre-party scoop! Party Details (A MUST READ): I will log on at 2:30 PM PDT and enter my clan chat. Within this time feel free to come on in and I will be happy to shoot the breeze with you! CHANGE OF PLANS: Something came up for Atom Smash40, so I currently am not co-hosting the party with anybody, if you too are a miner up for a landmark achievement (such as 85 mining or 99 mining), I am more than happy to invite you to co-host. Co-host or not, there will be a 5 minute grace period nonetheless for you late comers who want to make it to my party :P. At 3:05 I will start preparing everyone for my final swing! Write any silly message that pops in your head into the chatbox emote to indicate you are ready. After I see that the whole crowd is prepared, I will do a 3 second count. Once you see the fireworks, let your message fly into the air if you dare! And thats a basic rundown of the first phase of the party So whats going to happen after that you ask? Plenty more! If you decide to stay along you will see a little cape presentation after I hop back and forth from a members world and then get the chance to receive some sweet party favors! Did I say cape? Yes I DID! This cape is extra special because it comes as a gift from fellow clanmate and Tip.Iter Kietaro1 . Kietaro out of the kindness of his heart, decided to surprise me and told me that he wished to give me a RuneScape Card as his little gift for my 99 mining party. I am going to remain F2P however once the month of membership expires. Even though this will officially invalidate my pure F2P status, it had always been my desire to eventually pursue membership, guess I will get an early preview of that day for now. 17-03-2009 NOTE: The drop party will take place on a world that allows the use of the Falador Chest (see this post for the reason.) But my shining moment of joy is not what really concerns you right? You would like to know about the party favors I mentioned correct?! After the cape presentation we will conga line to the Falador Party Room. I will drop an item or a set that benefits each corner of the combat triangle into the chest. Hey all, just giving you another update so you're not in the dark about how I'm progressing. I'm 601k away from achieving 99 mining and have a mere 5% left till I achieving my goal! 17k iron is left which means around 17 hours of nonstop mining to go :ohnoes:. Hopefully if I squeeze in a few more powermining sessions this weekend (got to go to my cousin's wedding, so thats more of a priority at the moment :) ), I could get down to the last hit by the beginning of next week. We'll have to see how it'll pan out. I'm getting close...

200k no way :ohnoes:!!! 200k is easy peezy, enjoy 85 mining, can't wait to see you get it!

Ah finally under a million xp to go and a small 7% left (lucky number w00t)! Might be another slow week though, hectic college work but hey, progress is progress...I'm a gettin' there :thumbsup:.

Ah finally, I passed the 12 million mining xp milestone! Unfortunately I am hurting for time due to my some demanding college work at the moment but I think things are rolling along fine. If I manage to sneak in a 200k xp session here and there, my time till 99 mining will be cut considerably. Even if I don't manage better sessions, 99 is certainly on its way, just got to keep a minin'. PARTY INFO (PLEASE READ): Also, I just wanted to let people know in advance about how I would most likely set up my party date. I am going to wait until I'm on the final hit (i.e. the last 5-15 xp) to set the party. This way I will know for sure that I can aside time in my schedule for a party. Fridays are pretty much the most ideal day for me. I'm off on Fridays, don't have any assigned work to get to, and don't have to sacrifice time with my family. Family time is very important to me, which is why I don't usually mine during the mornings and afternoons of Sat/Sun. The best time for me would also be around 3 PM Pacific Time. However, I am available earlier than that and I can work that out in a way that more people can make it. I really appreciate all of you who have showed interest in attending an event that commemorates my long desired dream of 99 mining. It certainly has made this journey feel less of a personal one and more of a journey that lead to many friendships :...once again thank you. Catch you all later!

Hey Ed nice to hear from you! If you read the "Lady Shahdie on RuneScape" section on the first post, I give a short story about when my mining career first began right in the last paragraph. I seriously committed to 99 mining however at around the time I made this blog which was when I was level 79 mining. From 79 onwards I earned 30-35k xp an hour off of iron powermining (this can be done at as low as level 41 by the way with a rune pick) and I usually committed to 100k xp every chance I decided to powermine. If you are a member you can look into granite powermining, unfortunately I have never done it so I cannot advise you about it however I do know its a method that can gain you 45-50k xp an hour. Just tested it out right now. Cleared my pack and banked all my armor items in 2 seconds by clicking the bank your backpack and bank your wielded items buttons. Use to take at least 30 seconds to a Minute to do so...first I'd start by right clicking the Banker and select "Use quickly," right clicking on EVERY individual item in my inventory and selecting "deposit all" for each, and then opening up the armor tab and left clicking on EACH piece to empty it to the inventory, right clicking on the Banker and select "Use quickly," and finally end the process by clicking on each armor piece to deposit...PHEW! Now its only a couple clicks and BOOM you're done! I this little update.

I concur that its a bit silly to get upset about too few randoms but I understand how the constant grinding can get a bit mundane so I think I get what the OP was aiming at. However, I think it depends on the activity you do (EDIT: oh and skill total d'oh silly me #-o). Whenever I've spent 1-3 hours powermining and I still manage to get at least 1 random. If I go over my usual 3 hour cap of mining I get as many as 5 randoms in one day. I quite like the change because I use to get double that amount and it drove me insane. There were times where I accumulated 15 randoms in one day! 1-5 is much more refreshing after such an astonishingly high number. The reward of an xp lamp for most of them is also quite nice. So think of it this way, Jagex traded up quantity for quality (meaning a little bit of better rewards and less randoms to plague your play ;) ).

Today I hit 98 mining...my journey is finally nearing its end \. Oh what an epic feeling it is!

Lvl 98 Mining ACHIEVED!!! Achieving Level 98 Mining Screenshot Total Level: *cue some jazzy Techno music* ITS THE FINAL COUNTDOWN -- Errr sorry that song is perhaps a bit dated for this occasion but more importantly...I made it to 98 Mining!!! I never imagined when this moment would come, how this moment would come, or even IF this moment would ever come. I know for certain now that my journey was all worthwhile and that I am a mere level away from finally reaching its triumphant end. I'm not going to jump the gun and set a party date as my schedule is a bit unpredictable but rest assured Tip.Iters I will certainly leave plenty of time in advance for the big day when I hit the epic 99! As I was mining through level 97 I brainstormed something neat that I could achieve on the party day as well. What is that you may ask? A 1k total level that's what! I figured when I achieved my 1,000th level it would be in style. What better panache than to hit it on the day that I achieve 99 mining? I also will probably cook up a humble but certainly not cheap drop party and a few little party favors will end up in the Fally chest :. Thank you all for your constant support and for believing that I would make it this far. I have hardly had naysayers plague my journey and that has only helped my motivation. If you all knew I could do it...then I knew I could DO it. Now all that's left is 105,327 mouse clicks, 35,109 iron ores to mine, and ultimately 1 epic level to conquer. See you all at the finish line!

Another landmark achievement happened today, I've cut down my iron ores to under 50k left to mine (49k to be exact)! Each 1,000 iron ores roughly equals 1 hour of mining. Which means within another 49 hours of mining, I will be the next 99 miner of RuneScape. While I'm not exactly what you would call a no-lifer (but certainly close to one :lol:) this still means a couple weeks worth of work. Regardless, the final stretch has truly come and time is merely ticking away before I swing that final strike.

Which is why I said wait and see ;).

Your IP changes periodically though anyway by itself due to your ISP I assume. But you can't change your IP by restarting your router, I know that much. [/hide] Can't one implement a range block? Problem with a range block however is the collateral damage you get. Innocent users can easily get caught in the block. I don't believe an IP/range block is needed in this case at the moment. Timmy's IP is already probably flagged after this whole incident and I doubt he will easily revert to his old ways with all this current media, public, and Jagex attention. On Topic: Your letter is articulated incredibly well. I just fear that the length may cause him simply to skim through it or possibly disregard it all together. But in reality, an investigative reporter should be willing to read through that length of material (which is ironically what he was suppose to do in the first place with this hacking story).

Thanks for the posts all. I am mostly an iron powerminer but I do bank coal on occasions. Somehow the dark depths of the Mining Guild are relaxing to me and its a nice way for me to take a break from mind numbing powermining sessions. I hop to empty worlds for level ups so no one ends up stealing my ores as I go for the last hit and screenshot :P. As far as membership, the cape seems like a nice reward...you'll see how it'll turn out soon!
