  1. They're not making us pay more... they are making us pay less, actually. We are utilizing junk in order to pay more accurate prices, which happen to be higher than what they are on the GE. What Jagex is doing is that they're making everyone round up loads of junk to pay what we think is right. That's the issue, along with whether it's right to do that, opposed to taking the prices we get on the GE.
  2. You think its fantastic, yet tainted. Well, why is it tainted, in your opinion?
  3. I haven't thought about it from that angle yet.
  4. What is it keeping jagex from fixing the prices? Pride? Stubborn opinion? (they think they should stay that way, and they will until players accept them) Pure ignorance?
  5. Junk trading isn't the problem. It doesn't need to be removed. The problem is that the GE won't update prices. If it did, junk trading wouldn't exist, and wouldn't need to be 'removed' by jagex. Junk trading isn't the problem. It's the broken GE. No no no, my theory is that they are both problems (this I should have clarified); the broken prices becoming a problem for players, and junk trading becoming a problem for jagex. It is obvious why the prices hurt us, but much less obvious why jagex would have an issue with junk trading. It's based on the idea that many prices are only broken because we perceive them to be that way, while jagex has indeed set them for a reason unbeknownst to us. Therefore, junk trading would upset the "balance" created by the prices they "broke". Of course thats just a theory... I mean, who could imagine a reason why the prices are broken like that?
  6. Well, even if the players are right about the prices... they are probably still broken for a reason. I'm not saying that's a good reason, but if it's good enough, we might see the removal of junk trading.
  7. So honestly, why wouldn't jagex fix these "broken items"? Surely they wouldn't want junk trading to become huge... perhaps they just don't see that as a possibility.
  8. But it's important junk. Junk that allows REAL balanced trading. It's part of the economy.
  9. Well, hopefully Jagex makes an effort to fix prices, rather than stopping junk trading directly. If the prices are put where they should be, then junk trading wouldn't be necessary anyway.
  10. That there is a lot of junk! :P What are your thoughts on trades consisting of only junk, with no money exchange. I only see this working if that junk has a guaranteed re-use for another junk trade.
  11. Think about the possibility of junk becoming a secondary currency for bartering... that wouldn't work. People would eventually not have enough coins, and then they couldn't buy things from npc's to support themselves. BUT that seems unlikely to ever happen, because junk is only justifiably used on certain items incorrectly priced on the GE. The problem would be real if everyone used junk to buy items of all kinds.
  12. If a certain item becomes subject to junk trading, because it is underpriced on the GE, then how is that affecting the item's market? Just like old merchanting, isn't it... Where as the prices wouldn't necessarily change dramatically if it was solely being traded at GE price, I think that with the ability to get around that via junk, the current prices will be affected in an old-timed fashion.
  13. Buy low, junk high. I always thought merchants were persistent enough to find a way. So do you think it's a problem being addressed by Jagex?
  14. It doesn't matter to me. I play for fun when I feel like it, and do what I want when I play. The excuse I have for some of my pitiful levels (55 range at 99 combat) is that IM NOT A RANGER! :P I made a sucessfull thread about this same topic that got lost in the rollback. :
  15. Those and whatever else the general population may think is incorrectly priced.
  16. I'm going to be honest. When I began this thread my opinion wasn't very well informed. I saw junk trading as a way to try and manipulate prices. But one an a half pages in brought me to the realization that yes... the GE is in fact broken and people are just junk trading to make a deal on a more accurate price. Yes. If a person is going through with a junk trade to buy something, they probably aren't desperate, but agree with the price achieved with junk.
  17. Yes, that is very true, but the it depends on what you are buying. At one point you may not have enough junk. Also not aaaalll players will accept it, even if it is their only option.
  18. I believe the worst part is for people who don't like it is the fact that they really have no choice but to go with it... unless it's an item buyable on the GE.
  19. Thanks very much for the advice though. :D I nervous :ohnoes: ... But since my computer has been able to run other games with more detailed graphics, such as those in that game Minions of Mirth, I have a feeling that the requirements given by Jagex are the ideal ones, but not actually necessary. We'll see. This thing has served me well.
  20. True, but even if they had, a macbook can't have it's graphics card upgraded. So hopefully my computer will end up automatically "borrowing" from the main RAM to supplement the VRAM if it comes down to that.
  21. If you don't know much about computers, leave it alone. Its rare you can get a significant speed boost nowdays by tinkering with it anyway; most of the components are smart enough to figure it out themselves. Anyway, you can wreak havoc accidentally if you do not know what you are doing. Well I meet all of the requirements except for the VRAM... only 32MB rather than 64... So when it comes time, my computer will figure it out to borrow some of my 512MB main RAM, and use it for the VRAM?
  22. Exactly! That rules out that method as impractical. (collecting junk at a low rate to save possible loss) To be effective, you need to have a junk item that can be obtained easily... Now how about an item that can be easily produced at no cost, but can still be sold afterwards. This would probably have to be a hypothetical item, because if there is an item like that, tell me :P . If the item can be sold, then is it smarter to just make and sell that for a money source to get to where you want, or is it practical to use it as junk, and make a large profit on the items that you want to sell for more than the GE allows? In any case, does it matter if the person you traded with does in fact eventually sell of the junk they were given?
  23. Does anybody know how I might access the Extensible Firmware Interface (a macbook's BIOS)? Im running on a Macbook G4 OS X 10.4.11 if that helps... ... I'm not one to know much about computers. :D
