  1. Thank you Tip.It for the interview. Syzygy is hands down the most impressive player in the game. That's just my honest opinion. I admire all the top players, but it takes a whole different breed to achieve greatness in F2P. His stats serve to remind people just how brutal Prayer is to level, and why no [strictly] F2P players have achieved level-126 (AFAIK). The interviews are one of my favorite parts of Tip.It, but this was the first one that made me grin from ear to ear when I saw it. It was cool to learn that Syzygy is an adult, as I am. This is the only famous player who I actually wish was on my friends list. As a fellow F2Per, I would love to be able to pick his brain! For those who wondered why he has no god armor, you have to remember that they have the same bonuses as plain rune, which he is more likely to accumulate duplicates of over time. There's simply no reason to own god armor, aside from appearances. As for rares, again, with bank space at a premium you have to make compromises, and raw materials will trump frivolous trinkets every time. The only way for an F2Per to justify rares is as a way to bank more wealth if you've reached the limit in coinage. Keep the faith Syzygy, don't spoil the most impressive account in RuneScape with the taint of membership!
  2. I'd be happy with just the lock function, or even a grid pattern in the bank to allow designated spots for each item. Either way, I wouldn't have to have two of everything in order to organize my stuff. That's my biggest annoyance with the bank.
  3. I was training on flesh crawlers and got the Molly random event in the middle of fighting one. After being transported into her room, I was 1-hit. Luckily that's all flesh crawlers can do, but it raised an interesting question: what if it had been a stronger monster, and I'd been killed in there? Clearly it was a latency issue, but this should never be possible once the random has been triggered. My coding chops are rusty, but it could be fixed with something along the lines of: if (non_dangerous_random_has_been_triggered) { possibility_of_taking_damage == 0 } :-P Anything similar happened to you?
  4. OK first of all to everyone who thinks real 2-handed words were heavy and cumbersome, they were not. They weren't giant metal clubs with sharp edges; they were light, nimble and even flexible weapons, not much different than the shorter 1-handed "arming swords." In fact, 2-handers were specialized for thrusting, to pierce the plate armor which had replaced chainmail. They were an adaptation to advancements in armor. It was the previous generations of shorter swords which were slashing weapons; they were adapted to the chainmail of that period. This is a pet peeve of mine; the entertainment media has portrayed swords inaccurately pretty much everywhere, and RuneScape is no exception. Anyway, I think I've discovered at least part of the motivation behind these animations. Those of you who know how to "moonwalk" in RS, try it with a 2H equipped. Your character now actually steps backwards and turns his head to see where he's going, rather than simply gliding backwards while doing the forward walking animation. I guess Jagex noticed the moonwalking fad and decided to adopt it, in a sense, which is pretty cool of them I guess.
  5. Am I the only one who hates them?
  6. Does anyone know of a chart or list that shows the prices that specialty shops sell their items at depending on their current stock?
  7. I'd like to see my total XP when I mouse over my total level, just as I see the XP for each skill. I think this would be handy for everyone, but for players who's total XP does not show up in the Hiscores in particular. Let's say you wanted to set a goal of 100k XP per day, in a variety of skills; this would facilitate that. I'm F2P, so if one of you members wants to suggest this on the official forums, please do so. I mentioned this in Jagex's comments section, but got an automated response, which is fair as it was a misuse of the comments service anyway.
  8. All I know is his brother Luke clearly has demons in his past. You can see it when he does interviews on Letterman/Leno, etc. Maybe there's a dark family history there and Owen used humor to hide it. Anyway I tend to agree that if you really want to die you will probably succeed, and that many suicide attempts are indeed cries for help. But I stop short of making a blanket statement as such, because there are cases where people survive shotgun blasts to the face.
  9. pro-melee doesn't protect 100% against players. It only protects 40%. It's for the skeletons. The "risk free" part comes from the fact that you will only lose some free robes and ~75GP worth of runes. If you're worried about that, you can just hop immediately upon seeing a white dot. Isn't it 50% against players?
  10. LOL, the exact opposite of most "female" players in the game!
  11. Here's an alternate method you can try once you have that 43 prayer: -- Equipped: Monk's robe top and bottom, holy symbol, rune mace. That's +23 prayer bonus. -- Inventory: Tele runes. Go to boneyard, use protect from melee and ignore the skellys. Bury b-bones till your prayer runs out. Go to Chaos altar to recharge and bury the 11 bones inside the temple. Repeat. -- Pros: 100% risk free. -- Cons: Only averages about 4k XP / hr.
  12. This is a very cool plan. I had intended to calculate the silver needed to reach my goal, mine and bank it at guild/Fally, then go make all the tiaras at Kharid. I wasn't looking forward to it, but your method sounds like it would break up the drudgery a bit, even if it is ultimately slower. I'll try it, thanks!
  13. Thanks. I'll do tiaras. The Tip.It calculators also helped to convince me, when I saw how much it will raise my mining and smithing. A possible alternative would be unstrung symbols, but I figure other players would be happier to see tiaras in the stores.
  14. I really like your art style, it goes perfectly with RuneScape.
  15. Skillers schmillers, TBH. I am unsympathetic towards people who cling to their lvl-3 combat like a ridiculous badge of honor. The fact is that the Draynor willows are the only ones (in F2P anyway) that are cut primarily by humans. Thanks, dark mages! I say put a lesser next to every yew. I'm exaggerating of course, but those people who actually play RuneScape would rather kill a few aggressive monsters until they stop attacking than compete with the dozen bots who currently encircle every willow and yew in the game. On the other hand, if you force the botters to get to lvl-126 in order to survive, that's what they'll do. And since they would simply automate that process as well, we would have to compete with them at the combat training spots, too. These people are making real money by letting their computers run unattended; they have nothing to lose. It's a problem with no easy solution.
  16. 1. If a friend from RL lent you a party hat to wear once and give back, would you take it? Of course not. RL trumps the internets every time. 2. If an ingame friend gave you his partyhat to wear then give back, would you take it? I would give it back, although I don't form close feelings towards online acquaintances whom I've never met IRL. Still, chatting with those people in my friends list helps to break the monotony of leveling, so the least I owe them is to be trustworthy. 3. If a rich person you hardly knew lent you his partyhat to wear and give back, would you take it? This would never happen, so it's a purely hypothetical question. It would almost be like they were daring me to keep it...I suppose I'd toy with them a while before returning it. 4. If you knew someones password, and knew they were rich, would you take thier stuff? This could possibly be illegal, and is definitely immoral. Also, I agreed to several terms when I created my account which probably covered this sort of activity (although I only skimmed through it); I don't break my word (or the law). 5. Would you kill a skulled person in the wilderness for a partyhat? If I knew they had a partyhat I would make it my business to kill them and take it. They had to jump a ditch and click a giant warning sign to get there. They knew the risks. 6. Would you accept a duel with a much lower level that stakes all his money (say 5 mil)? I can't duel in F2P, but again, agreeing to duel = acceptance of risk. 7. If someone died, and dropped something valuable, would you give it back. AND how valuable would it have to be for you to keep it? I do this all the time, if the owner wants their items back. The only time I've ever kept anything was when a rude player demanded that I tele to Lumby to return their stuff. I said that they could come to me and get it (as everyone else agrees to do), or I would tele to them and keep enough of their coins to cover the cost of my runes, plus a bit more for my trouble. They agreed. All these questions come down to the same timeless quote: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Some people have a hard time grasping the concept of honesty (gamers in particular, due to the detachment of the internet), but it really is the best policy.
  17. I had been saving them for quite a while, but I wanted those 4 bank slots so I sold them all (cut) to players. I've never read any guide that suggested amulets for training -- if you do everything yourself, tiaras are a 3 step process where amulets are 7 (assuming you already have uncuts). So, I figured I'd cut all future gems then just unload them at the shops. You're right though, it would be nice to get some magic XP on the side, in addition to the mining & smithing. And I'd make a profit. Hmm... Yeah, I do hate to alch at a loss. I know alching is the best way to train magic, but I try to stick with combat spells for the hitpoints XP. I'm starting to regret selling off my gems, but I hated to see them just sitting there taking up space. It's not like I'm going to make an amulet every time I mine a gem, LOL. *sigh* Tiaras it is I guess.
  18. Names: anything with "bling" in it would be funny, IMO. As for items, I think two obvious choices to start would be to collect discarded feathers and cowhides. And of course running through the stronghold is mandatory. I've taken a lvl-3 through without food; you may have to twiddle your thumbs between gates to regen some HP, and maybe bank each portion just to be safe.
  19. I've heard it suggested that tiaras are probably the best way to train crafting for F2P, but I'm wondering what the heck to do with them all? I've been selling to general stores, but it seems like a waste. Is this really the best method? Is there a market for plain tiaras in bulk? I don't even like crafting. I just want level 70 so I can say I'm "done" with it, even though I'll probably never make a single diamond amulet. Still, I'd like to make as much profit as possible in the process. Should I just STFU and think of the mining and smithing XP as payment (I've been mining my own silver)? Note: I do always cut my gems (then sell them to gem shops ASAP, due to bank space).
  20. LOL. I saw an 80-something dressed exactly like those screenshots in the cabbage patch this morning. I couldn't figure out why he was picking and banking cabbages, and was about to ask him about it, but decided not to for some reason. Now I know! Hilarious.
  21. I endorse your statement and wish to subscribe to your newsletter. If all 7 of your CB skills are 20+, you're a main in my book. In order for me to acknowledge you as a pure, something has to be left untrained. Unless that something is prayer; that doesn't qualify. Many players just adopt the term "pure" as a badge of honor because it makes them feel special.
  22. This brings up a similar thought I had. What if no one skill could be more than double your lowest skill? (F2P would of course disregard the P2P skills.) The primary negative result (as they would see it) would be that true pures (both skillers and PKers) would cease to exist. I happen to think skill pures make about as much sense as teats on a bull, but apparently I'm in the minority there. As for PK pures, they of course do make sense, but as we all know the line between "pure" and "main" is becoming blurrier all the time. The scenario I suggested would force all melee pures, for example, to become rune pures, which many are already doing anyway. One positive would be that botters would be forced to round out their characters, which would "waste" their time. They would simply automate each skill of course, but it would still lessen the number of bots raping any given tree. But the most important positive (as I see it) would be a much more self-sufficient, well-rounded player base. In order to reach 99 in any skill, all your skills would have to be at least 50. That's not even a very drastic requirement, as 50 can be reached in a day, and most players who are flirting with a 99 skill are already well beyond 50 in the others.
  23. No, you cannot. This is why I agonized over the decision to drop my blurite sword, which I had gotten the same way you did (the only way you can acquire one, in fact). Once it's dropped, you can never get it back by any means whatsoever. For F2Pers I'd say bite the bullet and drop it, as it's literally worthless. For P2P...meh, might as well keep it alongside those equally worthless burnt fish and beer glasses...
  24. I was looking at my stats tonight and wondered to myself, "what if there was no trading system in RS?" If everyone had to make their own armor, for example, how many would be wearing full rune? I certainly wouldn't, not even close. Just a dumb thought I had. I realize trading is a huge part of the appeal of the game and I'm not calling for its removal. But it's interesting to think how differently we would play without it. There would certainly be a lot less drop-training of skills (something I can't bring myself to do as it is)! Obviously it would never work in F2P anyway (arrows, high level runes, etc.) OK I'm rambling... :-P
