  1. I sometimes misread words to be completely different. Probs happened to you too :P
  2. Awesome graphics, short and to the point. Support!
  3. The latter part that is bolded is most likely referring to games that do offer items that you can buy with cash already. Jagex is probably going to just use this system for membership purchases, and as a convenience, being a part of this program would entice people who pay subscriptions for multiple games but don't want to have their number floating everywhere to remain in one spot, if I understood it correctly. That makes much more sense :P Me and my assumptions.
  4. I don't want to sound all panicky, but this really sounds like microtransactions: Source The question to ask is, are the "items" they're referring to in-game items, or simply membership subscription? If it were the latter, don't you think the offer would've been worded differently to add greater clarity? Of course, I could be wrong, but if I am, they really should clarify what they mean >_> I mean, it could sound like microtransactions, but it isn't.
  5. Win. This summarizes the reaction of everyone who expected Jagex to win lol.
  6. From what I've seen, the majority of autotypers are goldsellers, and they type full/near-full sentences at inhuman speeds, which is about 2 full sentences within 4 seconds. (a 'full sentence' is one that uses up at least the entire first line character limit). Since I think few people would type full sentences at that rate of speed, I don't think many legitimate players would be compromised. In terms of what I think is a normal player typing speed, I'd think it'd be one full sentence per 7-8 seconds, since players aren't typically in a rush to write any quicker. The auto-mute system I'm proposing also flags suspicious strings of words such as 'gold sale', the names of gold-selling websites, and other RWT-related terms. Of course, we must be careful not to discriminate against context-specific areas. If people are simply talking about RWT but not advocating or participating in it, the filter should account for that too. We could tell players the first time they've been auto-muted, what they've been muted for, if they're unlucky enough to be swept up into the net. Though, the first auto-mute is a 5-second mute, so it wouldn't be too detrimental, I imagine, to their ability to communicate. This way, they can take steps to be cautious so as to not get caught for an activity they weren't promoting. I also recognize that although auto-typers are condemned by Jagex, they continue to serve (what I think are) legitimate uses by players looking to optimize efficiency. For example, spamming group recruitments at Daemonheim. Should these kinds of players be auto-muted? I'm not sure, since they are playing the game in a way that's against the rules, but at the same time, they're not promoting forbidden activity (with the exception of encouraging others to break rules thru their continued use, I suppose). Besides this, I think it'd be easy for the filter to distinguish between legit and illicit discussion of RWT simply by which player mentions an illicit website. RWT autotypers advertise gold-sites along with their prices, so it usually follows that users who submit particular strings of words into the system, like 'gold sale', '$0.50=1M", "[forbidden website]" at once, would be flagged, while players who don't mention the forbidden website multiple times in quick succession wouldn't be picked up by the system. So I think 'typing quickly' isn't enough of a parameter to catch players who are breaking rules regards RWT. I think additional parameters should be included, like sensitive word strings that would be flagged by the chat system when they're entered with inhumanly quick succession. RWT auto-typers don't require much else complexity beyond these two parameters, so I think it's safe to say most legit players would be safe, and most (if not all) illicit auto-typers would be caught. @The Gabe: Does that count as a support?
  7. Let's see what happens. I'm doubtful that it'll work to the extent Jagex claims, though.
  8. I could be wrong but I think Jagex already does this to help prevent 'spam' recovery attempts. I definitely agree with a lot of your points here and this is certainly the biggest issue with Jagex customer support at the moment, it is very automated and doesn't have a really 'dedicated' way to be reached with general concerns that don't fit one of the few lines of communication that they have. It seems like they've even been going further in the wrong direction and closing off even more lines of communication recently. Although it's understandable that they only have a certain amount of people working on customer support, they need to be more open and easy to contact. At the moment, if your issue doesn't fit one of the specific customer support systems that they have you're basically out of luck. Yeah. As I understand it though, Jagex is hiring more employees over time, not laying them off. So why are they cutting off more communication links over time, when they could use this opportunity to expand support? o.o also, since you agree with a lot of my points, does that count as support?
  9. Looks like some guy abused a bug with the new spam filter by using Quick Chat to trick the filter into muting everyone else. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ZLsR_BBd93E# ^ Link posted here before, but for reference
  10. Rock Climbing boots would be my biggest regret. I would've been so rich if I had sold a few thousand pairs. I'll tell you a short story. So it was early June 2010, I think. My friend asked me if I wanted to go on a Godwars trip the Zamorak General's lair, right. I'm like "Sure, that sounds cool." So I geared up for the trip, only to find out that I didn't have the requirements to wear climbing boots because I didn't finish the Death Plateau quest. My friends went on without me lol. >.> That would've been my first trip to Godwars, and with a team, too. I started Death Plateau and finished in maybe an hour or two, talking to my other friend whilst completing it. I knew I needed climbing boots for my eventual Godwars trip (friend said we'd be hosting one the Saturday after) and so I went to Tenzig up in the mountains to buy some boots. They were only 12gp each, so I thought I should take several pairs, 'cause why not. I briefly thought to myself that I should purchase around 1000 pairs of boots, 'cause they were so cheap and I like having large quantities of cheap things, but I decided against it. Instead, I bought myself only ten pairs of boots. I was satisfied with my purchase, and never thought to purchase additional pairs after that. Three weeks later, climbing boots update. All existing climbing boots renamed to rock climbing boots, and their value explodes. I sell my ten pairs of boots for a lousy 450K and manage to refund the 500K I spent on an expensive Angel of Death gravestone. Satisfied? Not anymore. >.> If only I had bought 1000 pairs of those boots. I would've had several tens of millions to spend... :( Oh, and my friends canceled the Godwars trip that week after too <_<
  11. Nice, haha. That's similar to what happened to someone I met, except he randomly turned invisible when he went near the Draynor jail.
  12. I <3: The Simpsons. and I lol'd :P Yep, kids are safe, legally speaking. ^_^ I don't even know if gambling in-game has an adverse affect on a player IRL than say, causing them to miss some time for their schoolwork. >.>
  13. I wish this comment had a like button. <3: You said everything better than I could've. I'll add my own thoughts even then. To the people demanding 'greater transparency' in the form of divulged info. The lack of certainty over the issue at this time isn't descriptive of a lack of transparency, far from it. He's given you all he knows, and the things he's asked you to assume about your account security is, in itself, sound advice. So why are you wasting time hounding someone who's literally given you a sufficient answer, when you could be pro-active, and change all the passwords for the accounts you know were linked to your tip.It account? Change the password for your e-mail if it matches one of your Tip.it passwords; do the same for the others. Tip.it admins aren't there to bend over hand and foot at your every whim. Be patient, in the mean-time, do something to make yourself secure. You have no excuse not to; Tip.it has already done what has needed to be done to ensure that accounts here are secure. They have no responsibility to extend that anywhere else. Don't use the same password for each site, which is the reason I assume you're even asking for that specific info. Instead, use your browser's Password Manager to remember your logins. If an off-site account was compromised, that's the intruders' fault, and yours, not Tip.it's for not informing you so you could change the password to one that isn't the same as another.
  14. RuneVillage, Sal's, and RSWiki, in no particular order. :P Basically the only ones that haven't already been attacked. Hopefully after seeing what's happened to almost every other Runescape fansite they'll be prepared and have doubled checked their security. For sure. I'm particularly worried for RSWiki. I love that site, and I've made a few helpful edits to it <3: RuneVillage also deserves some concern considering the recent events there. I wonder how badly an attack on RV would affect it. D:
  15. No, it wouldn't be illegal. Gambling laws differ from country to country regards legal age (even if there's a majority consensus), and I'd like to know the source that claims a "gambling license" is required to run a casino-like attraction in-game. If you could, I would like the direct text from U.K. law itself. I imagine the reason that minors are barred from casinos is because allowing minors to gamble isn't a legal source of revenue for the government (that may have to do with the fact that they can't pay tax), as well as the fact that alcohol is only available to people usually between the ages of 18 and 21, minimum age (translation: no minors allowed). Since in-game currency isn't a legal tender which would legitimate a source of revenue for the government, there's no need to restrict anyone from playing a game which is on Jagex's terms, especially one which is aimed toward young teenagers. Your argument is equivalent to someone claiming that Jagex needs a liquor license to operate the pubs in-game because minors are barred from drinking in pubs in real life. Therefore, they should remove the pubs. Doesn't make sense, right? :P
  16. RuneVillage, Sal's, and RSWiki, in no particular order. :P
  17. Lol, as if tip.it, zybez.net, and a [cabbage]ton of other sites aren't hacked. That is the past and I think that is not what we are discussing here. Right now (or yesterday) runehq was hacked and their password got decrypted by hackers, not on tip.it zybez.net or any other site. (according to op) What is runehq's next move/what did they do to prevent this in the future. Totally. Even if it's an illegal act, I doubt Jagex will act on it seriously, since they knew nothing could be compromised. Of course, that's not the only reason that would stop Jagex from pursuing charges. Jagex already retains a large amount of control of their players without having to resort to legal action, and the cons of pursuing legal action outweigh the pros for such a small act. How many players' accounts have been accessed without their consent? How many have gotten punished by Jagex? I would say almost none, for the act of accessing an account, by itself, isn't even against their rules, and Jagex has no responsibility to pursue action in that particular vein. Access someone's account and scam another, though, and you might face a short mute. The best Jagex can do is to tell players to be as secure as possible with their account, and to punish players whom they know accessed a player's password through levying a mute or a ban. Hell, Jagex knows who accessed Chessy018s account, I'm sure a few people do, and no legal action was taken against him, because it's absolutely not worth it. I also don't think the announcement itself is the illegal act (what your quote is implying) but the attempt of access itself. The opportunity to pursue legal action is there, but there are many reasons why Jagex would resort to other methods of action/punishment.
  18. Good to be back :D Couldn't stand three days without Tip.it. <3:
  19. lmao. If I had that happen to me I swore I'd be on drugs. >.>
  20. I know what he is saying. I don't even speak Spanish and I understood most of what he was saying. Still funny though.
  21. I knew I wasn't crazy. And haha, that's weird. I wonder what "updated information" he was talking about. Maybe he was spying on you? O_O Thanks <3 I didn't realize you could walk on it either. I suppose Jagex patched that up by now. D:
  22. Reform Customer Support By RU_Insane et. al This thread isn't anything fancy. It's essentially a compilation of ideas I've read from other members here, plus my own thoughts, on how to reform Jagex's failed customer support system. I'll credit the holder of the original suggestion where possible. Here we are: RWTers Improve the auto-mute system. If someone continues to type quickly after their first temp-mute, lengthen the sentence. I recall that the first temp mute is about five seconds, I may be wrong. After this interval, increase it to 10 seconds, then 20 seconds, then 30, then one minute. Continue lengthening the mute 'till it reaches five minutes. At five minutes, a report is sent to Jagex detailing the player's offense. From there, Jagex can decide to apply additional punishment. We must be careful to implement this feature in context-specific scenarios. It's understandable that someone would spam a trade on W2 Grand Exchange, for example. This is why the filter will check for specific phrases. Phrases like "selling gold", "gold sale", and so forth will be flagged, and the spammers muted by increasing intervals. Reduce grind by greatly increasing XP and rewards in related mini-games and skills at higher levels. Introduce incentives to skill, and aim for a 70% reduction in skill grinding from level 30+ in the hardest skills (summoning, dungeoneering, rune-crafting, herblore, etc.). Less grinding leads to fewer people gaining the incentive to use third-party software to complete their tasks. Ban all RWTers on first offense, regardless of player status (F2P or P2P). Greater transparency for Jagex. Jagex should publish their balance sheets for the years 2009-2010, 2010-2011, and 2011-2012, and include detailed sources of revenue. Players deserve to know if Jagex is deliberately profiting from RWTers. This is an excellent way to know. Introduce incentives for players to report RWTers. Perhaps a rewards system where points increase with each report, which can eventually be redeemed for a cash/experience/item reward. Ratio could be fifty experience points per report. Of course, Jagex must check to see all reports are legitimate. Credit for original idea goes to NukeMarine. Report Abuse System Check that all in-game reports are legitimate and are fairly considered. No further ‘offensive language’ offenses for situations which are clearly appropriate. Punish users who abuse the report system. I've been muted several times for offensive language when I didn't even cuss! Introduce a "lock chat-box" button, which would stop all further incoming chat, and allow the player to scroll through the text to report the offending player. This idea is not my own, but credit goes to whoever first suggested this. Allow multiple reporting. This feature works in conjunction with the point above. Lock the chat-box, then highlight the names of the players you wish to report. Right click the chat-box, select "Report", and a screen will pop up. The screen will focus on the users who spoke, in chronological order. For example, if you highlight the chat-box, and the first player who spoke in your highlighted section is "1", he'd be reported first. If the second player who spoke in your highlighted box is "2", he'd be reported second, and so forth 'till you reach the last player who spoke in your highlighted section. If a player spoke more than once in your highlighted section, but he's already reported, the system will move on to the next user who hasn't been reported. Get rid of sixty-second wait-times between reports. Introduce a right-click report option via chat system (that includes public chat, private chat, clan chat & friends chat). Appeals System Introduce a stronger appeal system where all appeals are considered based on the facts of the case and its merit. Too many people have gotten off the hook with weak appeals. Players have submitted Rick Roll lyrics for appeals, and they've gotten accepted, with no regard to what they did. That needs to change. Humanize responses to appeals. Have every appeal actually answered by a Jagex employee, not an automated system. Have each response be unique to the person’s case for a greater sense of interaction. Increase appeal character limit from a thousand characters to ten thousand. Boost appeals for mutes from two to three per offense, and from one appeal to two for bans. Equal opportunity appeal – even RWTers get a chance to appeal their offense. Chance for successful appeal based on precedent and severity of offense, but facts always considered. General Customer Support Re-introduce Jagex contact system. Introduce additional methods to reach Jagex employees to answer concerns (e-mail, on-site). Humanize responses from Jagex, don't automate them. Ensure each customer gets their questions and concerns answered to the best extent. Introduce a ten thousand character limit for contacting Jagex on-site. Encourage all players to register their main e-mail address to their accounts. Send a confirmation e-mail to the player's inbox when a recovery attempt is made for their account. Recovery must be confirmed before it can continue. (already used by Jagex) Support List: <3: RU_Insane Thanks for reading!
