On the 2 encounters I've had with viruses I reformatted each time because both where due to not thinking and the hard drive was basically a fresh format anyway... Get a good virus scanner like NOD32 (gotten at eset.com) (the trial one is free for 30 days) or avast (not sure about that one) and do a scan and try and fix it before formatting. One thing to check - your host file. (this is assuming you are on XP) Goto C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc Open the file called "hosts" in notepad It should look something like this: If it has extra entries, thats probably why, most "messups" which block sites are because of viruses editing the hosts file. If it is the problem, to get NOD32 just type the IP: 72.32.7.91 into the address bar to get to the site for it. (not 100% sure that works though)

looked up the "7000 error": http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314357 I would advise just trying a reformat, and if it doesn't work it might be the power supply or memory, usually in store-bought pcs they go for the cheapest components they can find and power supplies are one of the most common things to die in them. might be the memory too if it's the power supply, sometimes the huge ripple in poor quality power supplies destroys memory. Also stop paying "Insurance per month" to pc world, the people who work there don't have any actual computing qualifications, they just read jargon off a piece of paper to trick people into buying stuff they don't need to buy, i'm willing to bet they just played a couple of DVDs then gave it back, and that they didn't even open the case or investigate the problem properly.

Get some professional advice rather than asking on here, them 20k+ desktops are all pointless, if you really need a 5k+ computer then it's best to get professional advice to decide what you REALLY need in it. I'd go as far as saying quad core cpu + possibly 8gig of ram but 4 is probably ok, + normal geforce/radeon card (quadro/firegl is pointless unless your programming apps use the extra capabilities) is plenty for 99.9% of none-professional programming (or heck even dual core+2-4 gig for 70% or so), and I assume by the fact you are asking on a runescape forum that it's not for professional programming... WOW does not require a mega-powerful computer, that laptop is for marketing stuff basically lol

There isn't much which is cheaper and better - x1950PRO used to be a good budget card but the cheapest one I can find now is like ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâã80 so no longer worth it, and the next step down is 7600gt/8600gt which are all like 50% of the speed of the hd3850 but like 70% of the price :?

8600gts's are overpriced for their speed, not sure what to get instead though. 680i motherboards are overpriced, and 680i is a bad chipset for vista, nvidia's chipset drivers are HORRIBLE, p35 motherboards have better performance + better drivers + more compatiblity, and are cheaper. nothing wrong with 64-bit vista, nearly everything works on it, and you can use more ram, i dont have vista at all yet but if i got it id get 64-bit.

The one where you are on the plane and have to save the hostage? It's just a fun bonus mission :D

i would say ubuntu but something a little more "lightweight" might have superior performance on a PC that old

ive noticed that alot of people on other forums have had problems with multiplayer so posting this here too: if you are having problems with getting onto multiplayer, you need: 1.4 patch newest vesion of punkbuster (that program will automatically get the newest version, its meant to auto-update but lots of firewalls block it (if you dont have the update you wont be able to play on PB-enabled servers)

all ps3 has going for it is blu-ray really.

I'm in the UK so this doesn't directly affect me - but i just hope whoever wins the next elections in both the UK and US manages to fix all the major issues, but due to the stupidity of the general public it wont surprise me if issues like the war in iraq/mass immigration/flooding etc are still not fixed in afew years time.

good things finished school started college bad things didnt do aswell as i hoped in GCSES due to problems near the end of school the college course im doing is absolute [cabbage], hopefully soon i manage to decide what to do next year instead of doing the higher version of the course im doing now hoping to decide what to do next year soon, and to hopefully get onto the right college course or w/e for what i decide to do

Depends on the skill. I woodcut and fish, luckily for me, there'll always be people looking to buy 99 fletching/cooking. and who will they sell the longbows to? (they used to sell to people who trained magic by alching to PK), and who will they sell the cooked sharks to? (they used to sell to people who needed sharks for pking), although lots of people use sharks to train. people will want the price of skills to stay the same so wont offer asmuch for raw materials as before

on a game i used to play ages ago i got "hacked" because of playing in school because some kids where in the IT office and they could see all the data i was sending.

just destroy it or throw it away, the data is more likely to get into the wrong hands if you put it in lost & found or w/e and the details on it might not be his. he WILL have a backup, unless he is foolish enough to think flash pens on its own are a reliable enough way to store important data.
