  1. I use subSilver not because it's "nice" or "cool", but to get the same viewing experience as the average forum reader I'm replying to. Most of the registered people here probably don't change their default forum skin. Think you're using subBlack, and you post an image with white letters to make a point on a thread. You start wondering, ("why is everyone posting" 'OMG I CANT SEE THE PIC')
  2. I know what you mean, but as you too know.. It's a necessary evil to pressure them into raising wages. Like when public transport workers went on strike in the UK.. Sure, if they were paid by the hour, they lost some money. Maybe some even lost their monthly salaries. But without acting to show somehow they are serious about wanting a raise, the government would never give in their demands until they realize it's bad publicity and in the end, they lose more money collectively, than the single worker. If BK gets negative publicity and can directly associate this with lost sales, they can be compelled to raise the wages just as McDonald's did.
  3. Wow, for such a short clip, that was very informative and appropriate for this topic. Nice find. On the other hand, I don't know if you 'really' need to conduct scientific MRA brain studies to determine the obvious... People have biologically inbuilt motives for doing good things and avoiding bad ones, and women are more likely to co-operate than men. But I guess that info is useful to those who weren't sure about it.
  4. You can't really try hard, a green card lottery is just about the only way left for normal people to enter the States. Yeah, a system of luck where 1 people out of 60 get in, is being used. My brother lives in Europe and has tried to get in the US for the past 9 years without success, and he has university education, has been in student exchange programs in the US, etc... Another way to speed up citizenship is applying for a resident status, then as soon as possible enlisting in the Army/Marines for active duty. People serving in the armed forces are nearly guaranteed a permanent citizenship. The only problem is that by the time you're a citizen, you could be dead or missing a few limbs with that method.
  5. That's a typo right? :P I think so :P Sorry, that was poorly worded. I meant $5 dollars in 1978, equals the current purchasing power of $1.50 dollars today in 2007. In monetary value, 5 bucks would be worth over $15 today.
  6. That's exactly what me and just about everyone else were saying. Of course it's possible a God/gods could've set particles and atoms in motion or created matter. Maybe even the infamous, invisible pink unicorn did so. I can't disprove that. You were implying you have some hidden knowledge, that you know "the soul and afterlife are proven scientifically" and other not-even-pseudo-scientific ramblings. You have a right to your opinion, but don't expect people to just swallow so called "B.S" without evaluating your facts. You can't just say in a debate "I know afterlife is a scientific fact and it exists". You have no sources, documentation or any evidence supporting your claim.
  7. There's nothing tip.it admins or mods can do about auto-[anything]'ers, you have to message Jagex about rulebreakers.
  8. Eating anything without lifting weights adds to your weight if you eat more calories than you consume. But yeah, it's good to mention that to rookies.. Supplements are only means for obtaining the end (physical fitness and increased body mass), workout and sleep have first priority. If you want to get practical, glutamine, leusine and creatine+ every other supplement is actually trash. All you need is 2 to 3 grams of protein per 1 pound of weight, workout+proper sleep. People like to speed up the process though, and especially anti-catabolic supplements like glutamine that speed up protein synthesis+prevent loss of mass are worth the few bucks it costs.
  9. That's not considered murder in any society. Even in free western countries, killing a person who can be proven to have attacked you first (with the intention to harm or kill you) not only makes you innocent, but releases you from all legal charges against you. Such as having a crowd as eyewitness, video camera footage, etc... A murder happens when you kill an unsuspecting person, with premeditated determination. Remember people are animals at the core. All cultures ultimately have evolved from the stone age people's cultures who were nothing but savages fighting for their survival. There isn't a hidden culture where the eyewitnesses would blame you for fighting back (which is a basic human instinct, and everyone else would do the same) There isn't anything wrong with defending yourself from an aggressor, nor does it make you guilty.
  10. They'd just be paying back something that is long overdue. Most professions get their pay adjusted every year according to inflation... How come these guys' pay rate hasn't been adjusted for two decades? BK should consider themselves lucky they aren't being sued for the amounts they'd lawfully own to those farmers, by keeping their pay at 1978 levels. Adding $0.01 per pound of tomato is actually a ridiculously easy and cheap way for them out of this situation. Not just that, but they will reverse their negative publicity they've been recieving over this upon doing so.
  11. Not really, I'm not religious but I'd give my life for 5 innocent children in a blink of an eye, and also volunteered for UN peacekeeping in Kosovo pre-2000. It just seems like common sense to me, that an innocent person (especially a kid who doesn't know much about the world yet) should not die. Yeah, sadly I can't argue with that. But it's also greatly a question of your grade of honor. Would you kill an enemy combatant who already acknowledged his defeat, laid down his weapon and prays you to spare him because he has a family to feed? I wouldn't, but some people would brutally shoot them to death. There's nothing factual I can justify my stance to them with, except stating their honor is that of filthy rats and they don't deserve to be called men. I just don't think it's right to kill people who obviously deserve to live. But I'd have a very hard time rationalizing that to a bunch of savages who are interested in ethnic cleansing and mindless killing, and enjoy destroying people's lives.
  12. Hehe, guilty... I say that if someone reports a topic for lockage which could be otherwise a good discussion, but I'm forced to agree with the reporter due to some minor tip.it rule.
  13. Yeah, but in veteran it can become pretty boring in big firefights. In some missions there is relatively little cover available when the enemy starts firing at you; You'll be forced to sit behind a dumpster for 3 minutes and fire a few shots every now and then. If you want to survive that is. Sure, it's realistic... Sometimes in real life you could be forced to take cover for 30 mins-up to 5 hours, maybe even a day. But it's just a game we're talking about here. The other modes can make it a bit more fun at the expense of health-realism.
  14. If being forced to choose between those options... I'd drop the wrestling in a heartbeat. If you don't aspire to become a professional, your g/f, school and job will bring you much more happiness. You're already pretty old if you're in year 4 so you know your mother can't really tell you what you can do and what you can't. Wrestling is just a hobby.
  15. I, too, don't see the point in using death as a punishment. If you come to think of it, it's an easy way out for someone who has done unforgivable crimes. Many mafia bosses just turn the gun on their head instead of giving themselves up for a 60-year jail sentence in a max-security prison, if they get caught by the cops/their home is raided etc. If you can kill 10 different storekeepers who were trying to live normally and feed their family and kids, just because they wouldn't give you 30% of their profits as protection money.. Sitting 60 years incarcerated inside 4 walls with no stimuli doesn't seem disproportionate. Or, as in China, put the worst criminals to good use and send them to labour camps. You get to help society, you stay alive, get excercise and food... But you'll have to work physically for the rest of your life. Everyone wins.
  16. It's the repeated use of statements like these on this thread that make one realize that this is a gaming forum for twelve-year olds. Yeah, well don't be so sure you would want to participate in debates with tons of adults and accredited professors, researchers, etc. :P I've had a ton of these discussions on other forums, and not just pertaining to religion, and at some point I just lose track because the thread has over 600 pages and I simply don't have the time to read past arguments and claims which have been proven wrong/right, over 2,000 different sources and footnotes... Not that I insult people like reaper, despite his age (which we don't even know for sure), he has a right to his opinion. Actually, his statement is dead-on if it were said aloud just a few hundred years ago in most of the world's countries. Religion has been always used as a power tool by the 1% which was aristocracy, priests, etc. who had vested interest in keeping the majority of the population dumb, illiterate and loyal (most of all, to think not paying taxes to the king or church is blasphemy)
  17. It's human inbuilt nature to desire survival. By hurting and killing others, you greatly decrease your own chance of survival because other innocent people will not tolerate it. Why wont normal people tolerate a killer, stealer or rapist? Because if he picks targets at random, anyone in the society could be his next victim. And most of the people in society do not want to be killed, stolen from, or raped. They want to survive and live life normally. Why is hurting other people wrong? Because those other people did not give you the permission to hurt them. Why is it wrong to hurt other people without their permission? Because the person hurting others wouldn't want to get hurt himself in the first place. He clearly isn't doing unto others as he wishes to be done to himself. Killing an innocent person is a logical fallacy. On the exception of being suicidal, humans don't want to kill themselves. Why would you kill another person then, making yourself vulnerable to be killed by other people who don't want to be your next victim, and protect themselves by killing you?
  18. Yeah, manners and lifestyle ethics are a real issue. I was just replying to rob's kind of ridiculous point about how kids in a school aren't allowed to file a complaint on the school bully just because "in his moral view it's correct to punch other kids and steal their lunch money". Business colleges already teach young people how to behave in certain countries/with certain people, or what to do in certain situations. I think that's a great idea. If we go to China for a business trip, we don't need to convert them to "our culture". We can respect theirs, and get used to their customs (such as if invited to a dinner, never eating your dish 100% empty, which signals to the host you were hungry and he failed by not giving you a big enough portion), and they can do the reverse for us. There isn't a single "proper" way to live, eat or behave in certain situations. But some basic morals exist in every country and are punishable by law, such as hurting innocent people, stealing other people's valuables, etc... And some are strongly encouraged, such as helping hurt people, respecting the elderly, etc.
  19. Yep, the writers for that program are in the Writer's guild of America, which means they aren't making any new episodes until the producers agree to raise their pay. Sadly, great programs like 24 are on hold as well, season 7 would be great entertainment once in a while, but it seems that wont be coming out any time soon either... It seems one of the few popular shows not affected by the strike is Prison Break, which has 7 episodes in store but those are coming out in like 4 months or more. Heroes and Lost are also on a break as well due to the WGA strike. Looks like TV is becoming boring as hell for a while... Wow, that's confusing.. On the other hand, I might like a show with flying cats as plot devices. Sounds like Monty Python, thanks for the tip.
  20. So if a guy from tip.it comes to your school tomorrow and shoots all your best friends, who are you to tell him he is wrong just because you believe "he shouldn't do so"? Your argument doesn't work in the real world. Laws are based on universal, biologically inbuilt morals, such as the fact most normal people don't 1. Want to get hurt 2. Want to kill others It doesn't take college religion class or upbringing. Even tribal people in remote villages can live amongst each other without killing people for small disputes, or refrain from stealing, because it gives those people a reason to steal back from you. You can go and cause harm to an umbrella seller by stealing his goods he paid for, have fun explaining the judge you are justified to do it "because 1 umbrella wont hurt him anyways".
  21. That's just an assumption, holding as much historical accuracy as some of the Egyptian government documents claiming some of the Pharaoh's lived for up to 140 years (which archaeological evidence has show to be blatantly false, most of the pharaoh's died very young, and didn't come even close to being 70 years old let alone over 100) The *only* source which claims Jesus performed miracles are the scrolls and scriptures compiled in the Bible. There is no other account of eyewitnesses, contemporary historians or any roman government documents proving any miracles have been performed by him. I don't think most christians would share your view. Jesus was not respected because he was a magician or performed tricks like turning water into wine. He was respected for the humble, honest man he was, and his teachings. Which matters more, Jesus' teachings, or the fact he performed "miracles" to prove he is legitimate? Remember what Jesus himself said: It's not important whether Jesus could walk on water or not, or create food/material to impress the crowds. His teachings make him an important person whose advise should be listened to, just like Plato, Muhammad, Gandhi, etc. I don't know about you, but for me, the non-supernatural things have all the difference in the world. The Bible still affected me even if I'm not religious, because of the good and pure teachings by Jesus. Blindly believing he could cure blind people doesn't make me a better person. But I can learn something from his teachings which are wise. Already during oppressing times, Jesus advised people not to blindly trust authorities that make you believe or do this and that, and how they are corrupted by riches and materials on the expense of people's rights:
  22. I always wondered why some people think it's "wrong", just like some people think being gay or lesbian is wrong or worshipping some eastern God is "wrong"... Those are personal choices. I don't think it's any of my business what two people do in their bedrooms, or my job to judge them to be "wrong" as long as those people don't do any harm unto others. If you believe it's wrong to have sex before being married, you have every right for your opinion. But judging others that do have sex before being married makes you look arrogant. How can a set of morals be wrong if it hurts no-one? Example: Someone thinks it's ok to steal because he needs stuff, and punch/stab people who annoy him, just because he's bigger than them. This guy obviously has skewed morals because he has intentions to hurt others. Another person thinks he/she can have sex even if not married. Sex is one of the most natural things in the world next to eating and breathing, humans can't exist without it, how is that person being immoral as he doesn't hurt you or me?
  23. I'm not really an economy whiz either but let's dig up inflation statistics. :) $5 bucks in the year 1978 is $1.50 in 2007. Which means, if something cost $5 in 1978, it would cost about $16 bucks in 2007. Yet, these farmers are still recieving their old salary, which by modern standards has less than two dollars of purchasing power compared to 1978 (when the salary was set). That's pretty sad.. Edit- You can also use inflation calculators like this one for sums different than $5. You'll still get the same results as above, give or take a few cents (I just did rough calculation based on inflation). However that calculator only goes up to the year 2006 but you get the point
  24. I don't really understand this quote ... If you make 50 cents for every bucket of tomatoes you pick, and they increase your wage to 51 cents instead, that's ehh ... definitely not a 71% increase. That's 2%. Fortunately for the farmers, their request says: Instead of 'a penny more per bucket'. :)
  25. Age has nothing to do with that, even adults can make 'prank votes' into a significant political movement if enough people do it. Heck.. Arnold Schwarzenegger got picked as governor of California over seasoned politicians, and his main qualifications are destroying robots, a strong german accent and lifting weights.
