Forcing Anti-Aliasing?
This just came up in the pictures thread and now I'm curious as well, because I KNOW I've done this before, although it was on Windows XP and the goal here isn't simply an AA quality increase but something else, as well. Basically I (and some other people) want to have Anti-Aliasing enabled on RS while using Direct-X and Bloom, which by default isn't possible for whatever reason (bloom will be active but AA will not, even though it says it is). I went to my Catalyst Control Center. Left is what it was on, and right is what I set it to, but there's been no change as far as I can tell (edges are still choppy on RS on Direct-X), even after hitting apply and closing and reopening everything. I know that there was an option the other time I did this that explicitely said FORCE Anti-Aliasing, but that appears absent [on this version]. You'd think that the negation of "Use application settings" would imply such, but apparently it does not, or there's another issue here. Help appreciated... :(

Botting in Runescape
While there's no problem with casual gaming, I don't think it's a good idea to expect to gain access to content unless players spend some time doing the game. I agree with the comments that Platinum made about trying another game. It's obvious that RS doesn't suit everyone . If players feel the need to bot then it doesn't take a genius to work out the game isn't for them. If this is the mentality that one brings to any mmorpg, then I don't think simply playing a different one would help. For example, for those that may play WoW instead of, or (as I do) in addition to, RS - why do you have to be level 70 to raid Karazhan? Or, even worse, level 80+ to solo it. What about players that want to casually raid endgame content (even if it's no longer endgame like the example given)? The same issue can be seen with Star Trek Online, Dungeons & Dragons Online, Lord of the Rings Online, etc. (Wow, I just realized how big a geek I actually am.) Anyway, my point is that if you feel you have to cheat through the grind in order to access the "good" parts of the game later, then maybe there's no mmorpg that's right for you-or mmog for that matter. To extend the point with a bit of reducere ad absurdum, why play games at all? One could even make the argument, by the above logic, that digging through the deck in solitaire is not really cheating because the game doesn't "get good" until all the aces are out. Vaguely dismissing botting for a moment, people play games to have fun, and I'm sure that if the journey, so to speak, was as fun or nearly as fun as the destination, no one would mind it. Unfortunately, and I feel this will always be the case, the disparity between actual fun and work required will always be huge relative to what most people who start this games' expectations. What people consider work in RuneScape is subjective, as well. For example, many people entirely detest Agility, considering it work (a grind). I personally don't consider Agility fun, but relaxing, which makes it tolerable at times. I'd like to paraphrase Omali in saying that many of the people who start RuneScape have little to no previous MMORPG credentials (myself included, from when I started til now) because it's easy to find and access. This does not [automatically] make someone who doesn't want to spend time leveling a casual gamer, but rather someone who is not used to the expectations of MMOs. There's a huge wealth of very low-level content which might actually be detrimental in that it could spoil new players into thinking the entire game was laid out in front of them. When they realize this isn't the case, they'll (as Doomdevil's friends did) give up because RS didn't meet their expectations of a fun:work ratio that could be more easily gained in a different game or activity. However, that "ratio" is different for every person and can definitely change over time, usually tied directly to the amount of leisure time one has. Further on this tangent of thinking, people who do bot probably only do so once this "ratio" as I've described it is no longer met. I'd suspect actually that one would only turn to botting AFTER having achieved their first 99 or other high skills legitimately, reveling in the gratifying feeling gained from such, and then realizing that they did not enjoy the journey and don't wish to repeat it with another skill. It truly is a desire for instant gratification that does people in, but not quite in the sense that I think most people have come to understand it. Rather, if a player doesn't enjoy doing something in RuneScape but feels it must be done to access some content they think they will enjoy, they'll most likely try to remove that blockage all at once and as quickly as possible, which is actually the worse thing they could do. Instead, if someone doesn't like something but feels obligated to do it, they should do a little at a time, while switching between that activity and others which they DO enjoy. I believe it's only the people who get burnt out that feel they must have a program play for them to continue. If anything, RuneScape is a gateway MMO. It really takes a different mindset (that I've admittedly developed over the years of playing RS, but only for RS) to spend 5, 10, 20, 30, 60 minutes effectively accomplishing nothing of substantial value (in the context of the game) despite actively participating the entire time and then being "okay" with that result.

You have to use OpenGL if you want Bloom and AA. Or you can have AA and pretty water with Direct-X. Unfortunately it has to be a choice...

2/3 Goals: 99 Summoning Achieved!
Very, very happy! Quite possibly the most gratifying single 99 I've gotten. And those equipment stats will only go up once I get the Hybrid helms! If you're training Summoning and have completed The Elder Kiln, the TokKul-Zo is excellent for teleporting to bank. Set your familiar option to "Interact" and keep your worn inventory screen open. You can use the 2 key to teleport after clicking the Summoning icon, and after right-clicking the TokKl-Zo in your worn inventory and selecting teleport, the 2 key will also take you to the Fight Pits, where a banker is very close.

Should be 140+ crims/hr (for reference I averaged 130 with void/cmaul at 85-90 melees). Chaos tunnels with iron titan will be 180+ crims/hr. Stayed at AC for another 2-hr trip. I should have all the charms I need now. 2nd 2hr trip lol EDIT the sizeable increase in charms was not due to any purchase of Steadfast Boots :P EDIT2 I'm very pleased. :)

Good for 2hrs (2 OVL flasks) at AC Waterfiends? :) I don't know how I could go faster lol. Goliath Gloves feel leaps and bounds better than CM.

Honestly I really hate the headband as the headpiece to this armor. Maybe they could make the Excalibur be the official weapon and be upgraded each level of Seers Diary while freeing up the head slot for somewhere more deserving.

Behold the giant glowing pearl! Probably a great thing to use in RSMVs... if anyone still makes those lol. So I've been multitasking while trying to get charms. I'm mad I hadn't thought of it before, but I can just go to Wfiends and keep soulsplit (basically be invincible) on and not have to do much while still getting a good charm rate. 53 str with Goliath Gloves in this pic I'm only 440k from 99 Summoning... home stretch!!

There's not much point in showing hints for an update that's all recycled content unless they show the rewards.

Your healing items don't change based on what combat style you're using. Can you really compare the Wilderness to SW when you have such a low variety (or grade) of gear used? Because SW is lossless and you do die A LOT people use any gear they feel like, but, as was said, you won't see many people using SoA there, just as you won't see most people using it anywhere else. SoA is not a good indication of whether Magic as a whole is overpowered, because it's nearly inconsiderable when discussing the majority of situations of PvP combat. Therefore, if Magic is only considered overpowered because of SoA (or for that matter a barrager with SS on 9 targets), there was no need for rebalancement by releasing these bolts (not that they did that very well anyway). That's all I wanted to say from the start, really. The sheer mass of genuine fights I've been in or nearby are what matters when I talk about SW. I'd also like to say, further to the PPS, is that if anyone could buy a rapier (or CCB, for that matter) in the GE for a few mil, the PPS wouldn't seem overpowered at all. Once again it comes down to availability. The gear used in Wilderness fights between typical combatants is going to be severely limited due to cost. It's difficult to say whether BB will actually be used there, but it's safe to say SoA isn't. I'll admit that I don't really know much about ranked Clan Wars but I can't imagine why such a niche arena (niche relative to other niches - even nichier!) weighs in on this. You [Kim] were the one talking risk VS reward, albeit in the Wilderness. Rewards from RCW are nonexistant as opposed to SW, which does at least bear mediocre rewards for battle costs. I'm not sure why it even matters, but in a manner of speaking, you should be more likely to see someone using something expensive in SW rather than RCW. EDIT lol Q was the one who mentioned Clan Wars. This paragraph has even less relevance now.

1/3 Goals: Temple Trekking Finished
As a kind of response to Trifectious, And... + more Talon Beast Charms, summing 300 or so. Probably a decent amount more herbs too. Those are Ghast scrolls which are amusingly still upside down, as is the pouch. Hard to say where I started, although I think it was around lvl 50 for both the little girl and old man (with the 4 others maxed). Definitely recommend only skipping snakes/snails/bogs/Mort'ton. Everything else is quick fodder. Juvinates and Vyrewatch are easily the quickest to kill with Blisterwood Polearm. In fact, I wouldn't even do this without it. At first I was only rushing easy path everytime for Smiddi (little girl) but it became apparent that she could survive everything but snakes and snails, and even those sometimes, making it better just to go the hard route. The old man can see ahead at a low level so I'd been simply skipping combat events because he Rambos. I switched to just accepting the first do-able event (as in going hard, then just going ahead if it checks out, whether it's combat or not) because it's much faster. Rapier/Polearm, DClaws, Bandos, Turm, Ext, [iron] Titan. The usual, here. Also Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City sucked, once again reminding me that no matter how good a game looks I should rent before I buy and absolutely never, ever preorder.

-Rangers also have numerous weapons with 10 range (same as magic) but they generally do less damage than a crossbow. -Polypore staff has a crappy range, I think even a crossbow could outreach it. -Bolas can be used by rangers to freeze mages to prevent farcasting. -I hear some range weapons have even farther reach than 10, such as sighted magic longbows. Theoretically, they could bolas and "farcast" a helpless mage. Just bringing up a few points on the subject, I'm not really arguing in favor of range of mage of being OP. I've never seen anyone using these tactics, so it's just in theory. Somebody should really test this stuff out, it could be some pretty useful stuff. True but that's just the thing, weapons such as longbows that reach higher really aren't very viable for PvP and the standard ranger wouldn't carry them. Actually, that's one of the things I wanted to stress. You guys are all talking SoA and Miasmic but people don't use those very often at all. PPS is pretty much the whip of maging, except that it seems to get to be about rapier strength as you would naturally get to that point. BB are about the niche equivalent of SoA and I expect that they'll be used as little as SoA actually is for PvP combat. Mage armor is easily destroyed by Ranged, from just about anything honestly. My experience of PvP comes from a very long duration at SW. SW combat isn't really different than most other PvP where you'd even be considering these things except that there's a large volume of it, which might mean it's even better for witnessing what people ACTUALLY use. Rangers were a huge problem for me if I wasn't spawnkilling or something where I had a huge amount of targets. In small groups of fighting like at the Obelisk, I would have to worry about seeing any Ranged damage on me, because even level 50s in blue dhide and msbs could take out a chunk of my health. You don't just say magic is overpowered because a tiny percentage of the population is running around storming everybody, just like you don't recommend everyone use torva because it's the best melee armor.

Mage beats everything-- including ranged. Easily. Common misconception, probably caused by the total ownage barragers can bring down when they have several targets and Soul Split. Otherwise, hardly.

Bolts aren't even selling 2k each lol... I've been unable to figure out what the intention of these even was. Crossbows were already supreme for nearly all Ranged. Mages already go down easily to Ranged. If they thought that the Polypore needed to be balanced, they should've just weakened it a bit instead of failing miserably to release something equally overpowered. No, something that fails to be overpowered is not balanced. In this case, it's just pointless.

Pretty trees. Forgetful everything else. Should probably go ahead and note that the Hydra familiar can't be used to regrow these trees. I'd briefly considered it then read on RSOF that it worked but when I tried it, it did not.

Is RuneScape 3 What We Need?
I've written this as a response to the topic, rather than your terrible commentary on your day. Yes. They should be saving the effort put into graphical updates and combat balancing for a new RuneScape-themed game that isn't flawed from the start. Their peacemeal efforts to improve the current RuneScape aren't getting them very far. The strengths RuneScape has are its lore, unique personalities and styles, freedom, and ease of access. If they took these qualities and applied them to a full-fledged game, riding the RuneScape name and losing the grind, still-subpar graphics, and "kiddie feeling", they'd go very far indeed. RuneScape 3, or whatever they might call it, needs to be on a shelf in GameStop/Walmart/Target/Best Buy. It needs to have TV commercials. It needs to have GameInformer and PCGamer articles. It needs the full effort, skill, and backing that JaGEx is capable of but rarely ever puts forth. They've carved Pinochio and he's come to life; now it's time for him to become a real boy. I know the graphics have dramatically improved in recent years, but you still can't call them "good" and leave it at that. It's always, "RuneScape's graphics are good... for a 10 year old browser-based game." Feel free to disagree in part or in full, I really don't care. I strongly believe that what they have is a creature of grand potential, trapped inside a coccoon of safety and reliability that they may never leave, even to the bitter end. And it's such a damn shame to see grand potential wasted. I very much hope that the Transformers MMO is a way for them to get legitimate studio backing, and at that, that it flourishes.

I too am curious of this. We know lucky items are rather dull compared to their real counterparts, so I'd expect a picture of the winning spin and the item wielded. I've heard of people getting them from friends, but never actually witnessed anything higher then a DFH. Well, the only thing higher than a DFH would be the higher-end Spirit Shields, right? I'm not entirely sure what you meant by that wording lol. Otherwise, I feel we can say in good faith everything else is truly on the list. I personally saw a lucky arma skirt (with the person wearing normal arma top for comparison) before the graphics update, and I've seen the DFH worn in game since then. Wiki has some pretty believable pictures of many of the others as well (check out Lucky Dragon Platebody ;)). I should suspect the lucky shields are nearer their original colors when worn, if not the exact same, but I haven't seen any like that either...
