The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion
I really hope that is the case. That Summoning and Prayer will still be as potent post-update as they are now if not using abilities but won't have an effect on abilities. For prayer at least, it might also have something to do with the fact that it's not going to be the sole source of buffs/debuffs anymore. So, if you don't have turmoil, there might be an ultimate ability that does something similar enough that you can get by without it, or some shield abilities could work as a substitute for protect/deflect prayers. I'm not sure I understand your reasoning. What about the people who have both Turmoil AND such an ultimate? Or the possibility of using both a Deflect and similar ability? A new equivalent being released doesn't really replace the old ones, so someone who doesn't have those things now would be at practically the same disadvantage should such things be released. _______ Dual-wielding multiple combat types has somewhat eased my concern about hybriding. At least in minigames I'll be able to effectively use Magic and Melee at once, assuming they don't completely nerf the current hybrid armors.

The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion
Despite my typical optimism I had the opposite impression. I ASSUME JaGEx wants to encourage teamwork by forcing each person to use one style, thus requiring multiple people to have each point covered. They've already shown they're willing to delete items that don't go along with this new system. I wonder how they'll reimburse me for nearly 100 hours spent if they decide Hybrid gear doesn't fit with their plans... Also, Void. Void's entire point was to allow quick switching between combat points and confer offensive bonuses. Both of those are quite obviously in opposition to what they've said so far... Also, >Decry forcing people into one class >Penalize people for hybriding ???

The Crucible 19-06-12
The Supreme champion helm is cosmetic, at least according to the official wiki. http://services.runescape.com/m=rswiki/en/The_Crucible#Supreme_Champions HD and [no] stats outside and inside of Crucible. Just mute the obnoxious music.

The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion
Aren't weapons/armors modeled directly onto NPCs? If this were the case why would JaGEx bother with Chainbodies/skirts in DG? More importantly, why aren't we all binding Primal Chainbodies for their insane crush def? :P Of course, perhaps older monsters do all use crush. It'd be pretty hard to figure out considering most armors with good melee def don't differ enough between categories, except Gano/maybe Torso.

The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion
I'm not even sure monsters use different attack styles currently (anything that hits gano better than torag, with melee?). Wouldn't surprise me at all if they removed stab/slash/crush defence. I wonder what will happen to summoning defence though. Also important, cannon dps. If monsters get rebalanced to 5k+ lp specials, the cannon better hit thousands or slayer will get a lot slower :(. I remember one of my friends advising me not to use Gano VS Sanfreet because his tail appears to be a stab attack. Other than that, I've no idea. I remember feeling like I was hit harder (or more more often if you want to split hairs) by Ankous and Brutes and such in DG while wearing plate but that's hardly conclusive. If monsters didn't use different melee styles though, what would your defense VS them be based on?

The Crucible 19-06-12
wow finally. unfortunately i cant get on for a few days, could someone please post a picture? Served, as I got on just to see this purported fix. I realize my hair is clipping the mask on the sides, but there is no back part anyway lol... Even when bald, the mask does not extend to the back of the head. Hence why I'm still calling it a mask. I guess all they're talking about are the now-visible side things. _______ Seems like an ugly waste of some beautiful graphics, but perhaps it's truly intended to be enjoyed after the eventual combat update, when hopefully it's no longer SOA > all.

The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion
After finally watching that vid, I just really want the beta to be here already. Anyone see what it said when he hovered over the different equipment? The Zamorak Kiteshield had an armor rating of 2400 or something. I hope that's just some sort of "quick info" and not an indication that they're melding all melee combat types into one. Although, at that, I could have sworn that they said previously that different styles and magic elements would be far more important than they are now. Unrelated, but I'm hoping that I'll be able to fight competently in Necro after the update. But if they're releasing much easier to get/make mage armor, I doubt they'll be focusing on niche armors as much...

Quick Question about Hybrid Armour and CW
Unfortunately not. I always wear my halo with my otherwise complete set of Vanguard.

Secrets and Exploration
I'm fully aware of that, and I've actually played every one of those you listed. I was making the point that, amongst other elements, finding secrets and exploring are fading from FPS games, where they used to be core gameplay. However, I'd also say that there's fair amount of difference when you're in much smaller areas and in first person that just can't be replicated by (mostly) third-person sandbox games like the ones you mentioned. I can say from experience that although those open worlds can be breathtaking, the "little" details are rarely important, and secrets are far easier to find than in FPSs, especially when they're giant floating icons on the top of building spires. Series like Fallout and TES are a good blend, though, even if they're still not quite the same... Sadly the look and feel of playing 2D games like [most] of what you listed have put me off of that genre. While I know many enjoy such games, there's a certain amount of linearity (or lack thereof) in games that I consider optimum, and essentially the very nature of a sidescrolling game is too high above that level for me. I have played some of the GCN and Wii incarnate Metroids though. When my Wii wasn't caked under years of dust I did play Metroid Prime Corruption and loved it (other than the controls, but that's just muddying things up :P). Another fine ID product! And one I also quite enjoyed. :) There is a very fine balance around generally knowing that you moving forward in a level. When level design is at its finest, waypoints aren't needed, and the player can usually figure out where to go without their hand being held. When it's at its poorest, an enclosed map can become incredibly frustrating, with constant returning to visited areas, wondering where to go next. While I don't like the general fazing out of any need for navigational skills, I can understand that it's just part of the overall dumbing-down of FPS games in recent years. I hate how jaded just that sentence sounds, but can also think of a shitton of examples...

Secrets and Exploration
It's quite common to hear someone compare newer first person shooter games to the originals due to the many "innovations" introduced over the years. Truth be told, the FPS genre is one of a fairly simplistic formula: move around and shoot things. That's why any changes - whether they be the switch from health and health pickups to regeneration or the now-common adoption of fine-aiming - are often met with some criticism and reluctance from "veteran" gamers. There's one fading element that I don't think is touched on enough, though: exploration. Secret passages, hidden switches and caches, and alternate pathways all seem to be fleeting sights in "modern" FPS games. In the beginning, however, the element of exploration (and at times, I mean really dicking around) was just as core as your health and ammo counters. I doubt there is one ID Software (the company typically accredited with pioneering the genre) FPS that doesn't feature a heavy emphasis of sticking around to find the goodies. These days - and I try to sound as little jaded as possible - there doesn't seem to be much focus on exploration (or even navigation, for that matter) as there is just going from point A to point B and killing anything in your way. For me, exploration is a big part of why I play, and I'm sad to see it going the way of rocket-jumping and medkits. There's some thrill in hunting and finding cleverly placed secrets and often being rewarded for taking your time rather than rushing to the exit. I find myself going back and playing old games like Doom, Quake, and Duke Nukem just to fill the void newer games are leaving. All hope is not lost, however. There have been a few games released in the last several years that more than show some developers still lovingly handcraft their levels with hidden loot just waiting to be found. Bioshock instantly comes to mind as a game that did everything, especially exploration. I do of course personally hope for a revival of all of the seemingly antiquated FPS mechanics of "the good old days", but I'll settle for the rare gem like Bioshock or Deus Ex: Human Revolution if it means I get to put my dicking around skills to good use. Do you enjoy searching for and finding cheekily hidden caches of weapons and powerups, new routes, or even secret levels? What's the best secret you've ever found?

The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion
Did somebody already point this out? Will we be able to combine ankient with regular and lunar spellbooks? I think they just mean that they want to streamline combat so players don't have to keep flipping through interfaces. Yeah just because they want us to have spells on an action bar to get at the ones we want quick does not mean they are gonna suddenly drop the division of mage book activations. Something they have previously mentioned not doing as the 3 combined would be overpowered. It'll be kind like the Runic Staffs, you could have left a lunar spell (for example) on there when you swapped to ancients, but it won't let you cast it. And exactly WHY would that be overpowered? Allowing a mage to use lunar combat spells with actual attack spells (besides polypore  ) would only be fair. I've always found it one of the biggest ironies ever that a ranger and warrior can venge (or shield, or what have you) themselves but a mage who actually wants to be effective in combat can't. It's time to stop dicking around with crap like Spellbook Swap and Borrowed Power (worst farce of a use for a max level skill EVER) and make things right, and I hope they do with the combat upgrade.

Did you quit because of the Squeal of Fortune?
Pretty much ditto. I can't think of a way that SoF has negatively impacted me, other than teasing me with items I'll never get. The lamps are a nice bonus here and there. To be honest, I practically play for OutfitScape, but already have better looking stuff than the Squeal can provide, so even all the cosmetics they've been releasing lately haven't really affected me. There's very little they can do in the way of tempting me to buy spins, but unlike Jeremy I would shamelessly buy a spin pack if they had anything I actually cared about. I happen to believe that the people who buy spins for XP would probably have been spending that real money on cheating some other way, so the only difference now is that JaGEx is getting it and not some goldfarmer or other. I've no idea what prices are like for item shops for other games, but I seriously doubt JaGEx would get very far selling Torva for a few hundred dollars. The people you hear about spending significant sums on spins are far rarer than their publicity would lead one to believe, and I'm sure the same would apply for buying items directly.

06-June-2012 : Fish Flingers Improvements + Squeal of Neptune
Lol, I'm sure there are people who can and will do this. Well, minus the destroy part, since buying and hoarding them has the same effect of taking them out of circulation... _______ I've seen like several people with the fishing gear already. Does it really not take long to get or did people just have previous tokens? How long does it take to get, starting out from scratch?

Post all RS Screenshots, Videos, and Sounds here!
Obviously preceding an epic confrontation in which I put the errant fool in his place once and for all. This upstanding adventurer's thoughtful friends were kind enough to wait for him while he fully absorbed the contents of the noticeboard before they presumably all returned to their group monster hunting efforts.

29th May 2012 - QBD + Diamond Jubilee
That's a long time at the rate they seem to release bosses, unless you mean effective after combat revamp. Kalphite King's en route sometime this year I thought. Hoping they expand on QBD's design and make him an instanced boss intended for small groups (with a Ring of Kinship party system, maybe?). There's also the current GWD bosses to think of. SURELY they'll be vastly improving their AI/mechanics with the combat update or GWD graphical upgrade...

Future Update Discussions
All looking great. :) Especially Black Knights in Tav and Daquarius's Black Knight Brand Immitation Torva  I get the feeling from the reproportioned chicks that a full player kit upgrade might be coming. I'm also continually disgusted by the look of longswords...

BTS June
I see this entire thing being ruled by indestructible SOA mages anyway... Some kind of huge field of terribly long fights with Virtus wearing ch00bs SOA'ing eachother, quaffing brews and soulsplit-magic deflect flashing... Some disgusting display of Virtus-wearing cannibals throwing wind at each other forever just so they can get the same clothes they already have to sell to the people who had lost it and buy more of the same stuff when they eventually die and lose their own to repeat the process.

Combat rework - on video!
The final nail in my framerate's coffin is looking nice. :)

Dreadnips and ranging
Can't help you there, other than say that just going and getting a single inv of bane ore gave me 1.2k bolts (50 per ore, got just 24 for whatever reason), which doesn't take all that long.
-
Dreadnips and ranging
Yes, however they travel very slowly, slower than normal walking speed... But I don't think it will be a problem as long as you're just out of her melee range.

Those Rage quit Moments
The parts of Saints Row the Third that aren't ridiculously easy (the 20 or so minigames that are ridiculously hard compared to the entirety of the rest of the game, lol). I also beat Serious Sam 3 recently. Those skeletal bulls nearly ruined the game for me. Had the urge to go through all of Doom (without cheating/skipping around). That was fun, but taxing, due to huge difficulty with navigation. (So often you go down a long path just to find at the end a key door you can't open!!)

Future Update Discussions
I'd cheer for a possible set of Fishing XP boost clothing, but I've been thoroughly unimpressed with what they think is "decent" for the time and effort taken for each set (which is almost always 10-20 hours ridiculous).

29th May 2012 - QBD + Diamond Jubilee
Using a range top instead of gloves might be a better idea. I'm not sure if the accuracy > the chance to get double bolt shots, because the QBD has such low range defence. Oh, and red glowing eyes >>> yellow glowing eyes. Pretty sure swifts are better but I might suggest spirit cape instead of ava's for more steel titan specs, they help a lot. K I can do that and I can replace Gaze with T3 Corruption for red eyes :) Just tried it out with a royal crossbow instead and it is very effective, even someone like me who isn't particularly good managed to get the queen to the 4th phase in no time. I took 8 super restore flasks (silly me) but I could get away with just 2 (only used one up to that point). Could have filled up with more brews and spam a summoning flask more so my titan could hit way more and I would have done it! Does super restore not count like summoning potions?
