I disagree. Two people are not an acceptable sample to make a generalization from a statistical point of view. You might also apply the scenario to other school shootings, but there's one common factor between nearly all of the shooters: Most of them had mental illnesses, and something, somewhere was a mere catalyst. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Still let me say one thing, the guns that are sold in american stores are not made for killing deer. "Guns dont kill people, I DOO AHAAAHAHAH" (Okay if anyone got that quote ILY) I'm bad...like the movie attack of the clones! OT: They're actually voting within a week to scrap the gun registry in Canada. I'll be curious to see how it turns out. http://www.cbc.ca/politics/story/2010/09/14/ndp-long-gun-registry-vote.html
  3. No problem. If you end up getting a new laptop you'll notice significantly better performance RS wise even if you don't get a gaming one.

Not when it's contrary to the principles of justice itself, no. Faith in the judicial system goes a long way in making it effective. And when we live in a society where these people can easily get guns, this stuff happens. With stricter controls, this could be somewhat averted. For example; compare the number of school shootings in the states to the number of shootings in Canada or England.
  5. With some computers (like mine) HD is actually faster as it uses the graphics card while SD doesn't. I have around 15-20 FPS with safe mode and minimum graphics while OpenGL with max graphics runs at 50 FPS. However as the OP's computer is quite old this probably isn't the case. Huh. Didn't know that. Still, I doubt that'll help the OP.
  6. Right click on your desktop and chose "properties" Go to the last tab (settings) and print screen that. Based on what I see so far, your computer is quite old and you're probably stuck with low FPS. As the poster above me said, the lower quality settings you use, the higher your fps will be.
  7. You don't necessarily HAVE to get two sticks - but most ram sticks are 2gb sized - therefore if you wanted to upgrade to 4gb you'd have to buy two. Or alternately, one, and add it to the 1gb you already have. You can buy them in bigger denominations(4gb for instance), but it tends to get more expensive.

Which the vigilante then commits himself by unjustly taking a life. [/Quote] So only the police can handle justice? Whenever possible - absolutely. That's what they're there for.
  9. Post your specs. You can find them in the control panel, under the "System" icon/link. Specs include: operating system, hard drive, memory(RAM), processor, video card

Which the vigilante then commits himself by unjustly taking a life. Agreed then.

What ignores human dignity more - the theft of a few dollars, or the taking of a life? You tell me. Exactly - nothing is black and white - so a revenge killing of a murderer shouldn't guarantee an easy sentence.

I agree; the Hobbit isn't quite as complicated and "over described" as LOTR was. That said, that's the brilliance of Tolkien... I read the Hobbit when I was 11 or 12, LOTR when I was 13 or 14. Worked out fine that way.

I absolutely understand my ability to change the world around me. I further understand that such a change should be positive. Vigilante justice that ignores basic human dignities is not a positive change. I agree - often the courts do tend to provide skewed verdicts and some guilty do get away free, and some innocent are found guilty. However, I don't see the husband satisfying his need for revenge by stooping to the level of a murderer as someone who deserves leniency.
  14. Uh....let's see. A child has two parents, a mother and a father. They both contribute 50% of their DNA. So, if the father wants to keep the child, who he has 50% stake in, he should just "go find someone else", and forget about his child. Right. I personally find it ridiculous that people are willing to kill someone to prevent the "screwing of their financial life", but to each his own.

Everything in life is a gamble. I don't see where you're going here. Even if guns are illegal, it's still a gamble that you'll be caught and prosecuted. People do know their injustices have consequences - jail. You can debate the effectiveness of the justice system all you want, but it's obvious that vigilantism won't help it. Why do I trust the police over myself? That's a good question. I trust the police because it is their job to protect me - they dedicate their life to doing so, they receive training to do so, they practice doing so, they are prepared to do so. I am none of those things, nor do I wish to be. Make allegations of police corruption all you want, I've never personally witnessed unfair treatment or the like from police officers.

That wasn't directed at me, so I didn't answer. Or at least I didn't think it was... Anyway, of course there are positives of gun control - I don't see "guns for everyone" as gun control. So you're suggesting that anyone who does injustice of any kind should automatically forfeit their life?
  17. It's not a server psu - my server isn't actually running anything so it's just an old desktop psu. Which, incidentaly, I had to replace, so I have an extra PSU lying around(545w, but it isn't very good). The problem is my computer only acts up rarely - so I'd have to use the other psu for an extended time period, which I could do I guess. Ruerin, how many fps do you get playing tf2? I'm generally around 30 at near max settings, but I think it should be higher...
  18. A 32-bit OS can handle up to 4GB. I'm surprised a Jagex mod doesn't know that! I've always wondered what servers they ran on. It's hard to believe a whole HD world with 1k+ players on at once ran on only 4gb of memory. 3.5 ;) Even if you can only use two on applications, the server as a whole can still use more...weird wording.
  19. Developer console? Finally :D Also neat to hear they'll be able to animate outside of square now.
  20. It's quite easy, you literally just unscrew a little comparment in the back and count the clips. To put RAM in, you just clip it in, and release the clips to take it out. I assume you've got two slots (most laptops do) which means to upgrade to 4gb you'd need 2 2 gb sticks. I only have 1 gb sticks anyway... Edit: here's a picture
  21. Yeah I'm leaning towards that. Anyway, we'll see where things go from here.
  22. How many mobo ram slots do you have? I have some extra laptop RAM I'm looking to get rid of cheaply...

Nobody's life is worth $100 - deserved or not. You appear to be condoning vigilante justice here? Your average person does not need a gun for self defence. There aren't no consequences - cops will attempt to search for someone who's robbed someone. The bottom line is no matter what they've done, the life of another person is not worth $100. Listen..there's absolutely no reason the average person needs to carry a gun for self defence. If you carry a gun for "deterrence" purposes, does this mean you won't actually use it? And if you won't actually use it, why carry it at all?
  24. This. That sucks that he left you, it makes me mad when guys are jerks and do that (it also makes me mad because girls fall over and over for these jerks when they could see me, but thats beside the point and completly irrevelent) What if the father didn't want the baby, and wanted an abortion? Its always seemed odd to me it's always the woman's decision but the man still has to go through with everything she wants. But in marriage they're both equal. If she can't help herself with an abortion why should he help her? Same stands the other way. If she wanted an abortion, there's nothing the father can do about it. As it's his child, he should live with whatever decision she makes, whether he likes it or not.
  25. So I've heard, but that particular model has been faulty. I'm pretty sure this problem is either my gpu or psu...gpu performs fine in stress test though so I'm really not sure where to go from here.
