  1. And yet, there is about zero pressure on Obama from either side of the political spectrum to shut down Gitmo... again, actions speak far louder than words. Very few people will admit to supporting torture.
  2. So find a freaking study that says "10% of Christians support attacks on civilian Arabs". Because that's the question that was asked, and that's the response. The question was not at all equivalent to "Do you support the US military," or "Do you support the war in the middle east." The question was literally "Do you support attacks on US civilians?" Your mother does not make a good population. If you picked 1000 random names out of the phone book, called them and recorded their response, then determined the appropriate P values, standard errors and confidence intervals, I'd be more inclined to believe what you have to say. Until then, its all baseless attacks on Christianity, which is off topic and hateful. Lol. I don't think that 1,000 people from a phone book is a great sample. You believe that it is acceptable to disguise your xenophobia with poorly sourced and produced statistics from a single source, and then demand a study that would show Christianity in a negative way: hardly a likelihood in the US. So, only hate directed towards Islam, and not religion i n general, is acceptable?
  3. Your off topic attacks on Christianity/Catholicism make any legitimate argument you may have seem childish and petty. By venting your frustration somewhere else, you allow us all to have a more intelligent discussion. They're not off-topic at all: we take off our shoes and have cavity searches because we're afraid of adherents to one religion, while ignoring the adherents to another religion shooting people and waging a holy war in the Middle East. There's a strong link between religion and terrorism, and you don't get to single out one group in a pathetic attempt to justify your xenophobia. Your claims that other religions have the same link are baseless. Find me a study that says 10% of Christians support attacks on innocent civilians, and then we'll discuss it. Until then, piss off. Such respect. Actions speak louder than words, and in this case, both parties certainly do quite a bit more than beat their chests: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_terrorism http://blog.sojo.net/2009/05/22/was-iraq-a-holy-war/ http://www.alternet.org/news/140221/bush%27s_shocking_biblical_prophecy_emerges:_god_wants_to_%22%3berase%22%3b_mid-east_enemies_%22%3bbefore_a_new_age_begins%22%3b/ Never mind the fact that Blackwater can (and currently is) waging a holy war entirely on their own. I (and others) have already questioned the credibility of the study, and I believe that a Carl Sagan quote is in order: You can't draw conclusions about a study that has not been conducted: however, if properly worded, and with a selected demographic (as in the study that you've provided) I'm sure that I could do considerably better than 10%.

  5. Well the documents so far have been far more damaging for the US Gov than the Russians, so it seems like they're doing it to piss off the Americans. It's pretty hilarious too As for the trial, the British judge gave the prosecutors until next week to present evidence relating to the case and his extradition, if they can't provide sufficient evidence he'll be released. When I first heard that a day or two ago, I laughed: "Well, sorry for the inconvenience, but we're going to need to see some evidence... we still have this really crappy thing called a justice system, and the stupid bureaucrats require it. Don't worry though: if we can push this case through on whatever crap you can dig up, we'll be well on our way to getting rid of it." Somehow, I doubt that people would stop using their services since Wikileaks does as well. If you can donate to the KKK with Mastercard, people wouldn't blame Mastercard: after all, they're only providing a service, not actually supporting them. Seems to be a different standard for Wikileaks though.
  6. The Case for Christ, by Lee Strobel. Just finished The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, by Mark Haddon. (For English class, although it was pretty good.) I think I'll read Fight Club next, and then watch the movie. (Have yet to do either, although both seem to be highly recommended.)
  7. I hate that attitude. I despise that attitude. One does not roll over and allow "experts" to make decisions about their lives. One can confer with experts, listen to and respect their opinions, but one should not allow them to make decisions simply because they say so. It's insane: I can think for myself: I don't need to be told what is literature and what is no, particularly since I don't really concern myself with it. No line can be draw - none. I'm sure Lewis thought 'Jabberwocky' was completely useless, and yet today it is considered of great interest. Who am I to decide what qualifies as art? Who are you, for that matter? What values does a work posess to make it "great literature"?

I hate the line with sternum. Sorry, I know very little about poetry, but I really despise than one line.
  9. It is certainly within their "right" (as much as a corporation can have any rights) to cease dealing with another institution. However, I am very dissapointed to see that these companies are willing to simply walk away from profits in an effort to silence a dissenting voice.
  10. Anon launched an attack on Caribou Barbie for speaking out against Assange? That's as wrong as you can get: she has as much right to free speech as any other moron. http://213.251.145.96/support.html Cash is in an envelope ready to be mailed: help keep freedom of speech alive. Assange is fighting for us - the least we can do is get off the computer, and send some cash and a couple of letters to officials in your country.
  11. That response was directed towards See_All1. EDIT: I don't feel that it was inappropriate, particularly when the general mood of the forum towards any of my posts on the forum considering religion is "oh-no, yet another Dawkins-loving, Christian-hating atheist." I can speak on this topic from personal experience: I live in a very blue collar area, and the general idea is that you need to be racist, but without letting anyone else know, since it's pretty much unacceptable at all levels of the social ladder now (As it should be).
  12. When the basic premise of your argument is flawed, deflect attention from it by debating over insignificant points. Yet another fearful white Christian desperately seeks a way to legitimize his xenophobia: half of my family does precisely the same thing. All you can do is carefully point out the stupidity of distinguishing between parts of the human race, and hope that their ignorance will embarrass them into silence.
  13. If even Glenn Beck understands what's going on, we should probably worry: http://www.thenewamerican.com/index.php/world-mainmenu-26/europe-mainmenu-35/5432-are-the-sex-charges-against-assange-bogus
  14. Yes. No, they're quite popular. However, I don't think that they qualify as metal: yes, they've got a couple songs that could be, but for the most part they're rock just like Tool.
  15. GET MOAR LINKS@ For Christianity in particular: http://www.evilbible.com/ And a summary of the arguments against religion in general, presented skillfully enough to make it worth reading for that reason alone: http://www.amazon.com/God-Not-Great-Religion-Everything/dp/0446579807
  16. What 'millions' of people is he talking about? Has anyone died yet from these cables being released? No. Has there been a security breach? No. To quote Julian Assange in an article he wrote today: Both can absolutely be true. Revealing common, day-to-day activities can easily put intelligence assets and informants in danger, while those very common-sense reports do nothing whatsoever to break news of dishonesty in government. The reason these leaks are so stupid is simply that they reveal nothing significant about the government while risking peoples' lives. Please, provide one scrap or shred of evidence to support that statement. EDIT: Interesting letter = http://www.abc.net.au/unleashed/41914.html And, from Julian himself: Article Interestingly enough, the information seems to not support that statement at all: most would consider it a fairly complete refutation:
  17. Go find it and let us know. Until then, you have no base for your claims. The quality of the study is also important, not just the fact that one was conducted. When several more groups have also produced statistics, I'll be interested in hearing. As of now, if you drive around in Fallujah and ask angry young men what they think about terrorism and what their religious affiliation is, I think we'll get some pretty distorted examples.
  18. As a very religious person myself, I'm going to call you on that and say throughout my entire life, throughout every bible study I've been to and throughout every church service I've been to, I have been taught to not fear god and not hate, but rather, "love your enemy". In fact my Christian instincts tell me I should forgive anyone who slurs our beliefs. I'm confused why you could say religion is build upon such negativity, because I post here as true proof it's not. I didn't say that it's adherents necessarily possessed any of those traits, but that the founding system is morally corrupted beyond belief. [hide]Yes, very forgiving: So open to dissent: So tolerant of personal rights: Overkill? [/hide] PLEASE READ: Once again, I would like to stress the point that I do not belive that all religious apologists are evil or agree with the principles of Christianity. However, Christianity is a morally corrupt, simply revolting system of belief, even if it's adherents are not. I forgot that the Bible is only available to believers.
  19. Well said. I do doubt the timing, credentials, and motivation behind the charges, but even when after Assange is arrested (or killed), WIkileaks will continue.
  20. And I'm sure that 10% of Christians would state that they consider violent affirmative action an acceptable method of preventing abortion. Religion is not founded on tolerance, but ignorance, xenophobia, fear, hate and violence. The size of the study is also questionable, and it bears to keep in mind that there is usually a fairly weak link between people's words and their actions.
  21. http://www.wikileaks.ch/about.html I would strongly suggest reading; it's very informative.

    Today...

Family is gone for a week. And I honestly have no idea what to do.
  23. No, I just found it funny (a good part of the world does see him that way) and remarkably stupid: when the provision of information about your government's action obstructs justice, we have a serious error in our reasoning somewhere along the way. EDIT: [bleep] Language warning: Anon fighting for Assange https://uloadr.com/u/4.png Assange's accuser: http://my.firedoglake.com/kirkmurphy/2010/12/04/assanges-chief-accuser-has-her-own-history-with-us-funded-anti-castro-groups-one-of-which-has-cia-ties/ http://www.swedishwire.com/component/content/article/1:companies/7519:wikileaks-servers-in-sweden-under-attack I'm currently unable to access it, except through a mirror. I wonder what's happening with them in Canada.
