Eh, it seems like both the resurrection and the destruction of the necklace damaged him. I don't remember any dialogue that discounted the necklace thing completely. Might have to watch a playthrough again.

I thought his energy more of went into the necklace? And by destroying it in The Chosen Commander both the player and Zanik interfered with his plans.
