  1. Very good point! I think that if the game camera was more flexible, if the view distance was larger and the overall scale of the gameworld was more realistic, where player characters aren't the size of trees for example, the game would look far better and more like the concept art.
  2. I find that TOR's (Star Wars: The Old Republic) in-game graphics have a lot of similarities to the concept art. With that said, it is quite unreasonable to expect a game that runs right off the browser to have extremely high quality graphics in line with its concept art.
  3. RuneScape has end-game??
  4. As great as the water looks, the rest of the models look completely out of place. What I'm interested in is the draw distance in that photo because it looks to be FAR more than what we have currently. And the increased draw distance looks gorgeous! I'm interested to see what the update looks like when it launches and whether this realistic-looking water will launch with it and blend in with the rest of the cartoony art style.
  5. 2011. The game has improved leaps and bounds from what it was before.
  6.   Couldn't have said it better myself!
  7. Anyone else peeved that Jagex doesn't use 4x AA for their promo shots??
  8. With the upcoming Wildy update, will the map of the Wilderness be reverted to the original map, or will the current map with the Wildy Volcano stay, or will we be getting an altogether new, updated map of the Wilderness?
  9. I voted yes, mainly for the various player run companies that used to exist during the free trade era. That brought such vibrancy to the RS society. I am curious as to how the old Wildy and free trade will work with today's RS. Very curious. I hope it gets reinstated.
  10. No. Darkfall, Mortal Online, and Eve Online; Eve Online being the front runner with over 300 thousand subscribers carries a far harsher penalty than most other games on the market, especially because you're on your own if you get scammed, and there are no truly safe places in the game to be. Thats what it should be with RS. If you get scammed, you deserved it. RS, like it or not, is a casual game. The browser-based client, the quick registration, login etc. all point towards catering to the casual gamer who wants to have an engrossing experience in an hour or so. Currently, RS is one of the most grind-based games out there, especially among the mainstream. Now, I'm not saying that grind is bad. What I'm saying is that the process of grinding is far to simple and boring. Maybe it's just me but clicking and waiting seems like a horribly boring way to conduct combat. It doesn't keep the player involved at all. Jagex is starting to move slightly past this method and is trying ways to rejuvenate combat, such as making it much more engaging in the first 10 levels. However, the core combat system is too stale and I think that needs to be revamped considerably. Linked to that, I also feel that death penalties should be balanced such that players aren't frightened to go out and lose. Currently, and in a past, losing meant losing a lot of key pieces of equipment, money, time, etc. Considering the casual nature of the game, I don't think that losing everything at death is a great idea. Yes, penalties have to be there but I don't know if it should be so severe. I'm just trying to look at it from a development perspective. I'm not trying to do this for the sake of myself or anything. I just feel that the lower the downtime is between deaths, coupled with a more engaging combat system, the better it will be for the game both now and in the long run.
  11. Am I the only one who thinks that this is an extremely stupid idea?? I've been involved with RS for more than 6 years and I've seen this game during the free trade/free pk era and frankly, the MMO genre has passed that era of in-game death being an extremely fearful prospect. Games now look at how to limit downtime, not extend it. Personally, I feel that the biggest problem with RS is its primitive combat engine that is frankly boring. Click and wait doesn't make for exciting gameplay and instead on focusing on how to improve the UI and balance and jumpstart combat, they are focusing on bringing back the so-called "good ol' days". Very backwards approach IMO and it's one that isn't going to improve RS for the future. Jagex needs to look at the other success stories in the MMO world and try to emulate some aspects of their gameplay style. I'm not saying they should go create a WoW clone but the levelling process, combat, grind-to-reward ratio, etc. are what needs to be improved considerably in order to improve the game in the long run.
  12. That's exactly right. Melee armour hinders Magic and Range. Range Armour hinders Magic. Magic armour doesn't hinder melee or range. The game is rigged folks! Range armour needs to be given negative bonuses to melee stats. Dungeoneering armour is balanced relatively well because of positive and negative bonuses. Jagex needs to have the bullocks to make the required change and balance out combat.
  13. Good tip, seeing as how so many people didn't know about it. Personally, I think this is something worthy of being on the upcoming Tip.It Times...might help out a lot of people!
  14. Who do you know that you'll only be grouped with bad teammates?? It could match you with good teammates just like doing it manually. Almost no one has tried it so nobody knows for sure. And you're also assuming that the system only matches based on dungeoneering stats. Who knows how it actually works and whether it will always match you with bad teammates or get you good ones? NO ONE HAS USED IT. That's my point. Because people like you seem to have a preconceived notion that auto-grouping automatically sucks because it will only group you with bad teammates. Why people can't give it a chance is beyond me. It doesn't take levels into consideration at all (other than for what floor you choose, obviously), which is the problem. If people in world 117 use the auto-grouping system, you're going to be grouped with four people from world 117. Yeah, there's a very slight chance that you might get a good teammate, but IT'S WORLD 117. It wouldn't be any different on any other world. We know exactly how the auto-grouping system works, hence why no one uses it -- it sucks! I still feel that without people actually using it, saying that it sucks is just plain stupid. I'm not denying that it MIGHT suck. If people try it and if it does indeed suck, then atleast there's something information that Jagex can use to improve it. But nobody uses it and the people who get inconvenienced are casual gamers. The majority of the gamers. Who are looking for a good time and just playing rather than waiting around in the lobby shouting for team requests just to get things going. It reminds me a lot of the times before the GE. Yes, there was that thrill when you advertise your Amulets of Strength successfully against the other competitors and make a sale. But for the most part, standing around Varrock West Bank shouting "Strength Ammys 9.5k!!!" was a boring, annoying and irritating process. GE streamlined the process so much better and made money-making more accessible to the casual gamer. A good auto-matchmaking system can have that exact same positive effect on Dungeoneering. However, in order for the grouping system to work, people need to use it for starters. And that's unfortunately the hard part...

  16. I THINK she is saying that this may be more effective than standing around for hours shouting for the perfect group you want... That's exactly what I'm saying. And it's HE. :P Oh, and who knows how fast it takes when the auto-grouping rooms are actually used. No one uses them! And on that note, no one has any right or knowledge to say that they suck because there's never enough people in there to even test whether it's good or not. On the contrary - if everyone used the autogrouping system, you'd have a guaranteed chance of getting at least one (likely four) awful teammates. No exceptions. Good dungeoneers wouldn't use them, and that's a fact. But the majority of players and Dungeoneers are casual games who are simply looking for an efficient way to group together and PLAY. Having to go through an arduous process of advertising your wants, then getting other players to trade you, then joining/adding, them then repeating 3 more times for a full team is just too much hastle for the majority gamer. Not to mention, it only increases the irritation when you go through all of that and realize that one or more of your teammates have no idea what to do or one of them quits and jeopardizes your team and floor. And honestly, even if you do it manually, you can never know how someone actually plays by looking at their skills or anything. You can have people with high levels in everything but if they can't dungeoneer, they can't dungeoneer. Nothing except for playing with them can tell you how good of a teammate they are. And you are right that Good dungeoneers wouldn't use the auto-group rooms. They also won't advertise in the main lobby for random teammates. People who need elite teammates will usually have their own set of dungeoneering friends or a clan that they're part of. Such people who do high level floors and are looking to completely and efficiently maximize XP and speed RARELY rely on the main lobby to find teammates because they already know that it's going to be slim pickings for sharp teammates. So you can't really include the elite dungeoneers when it comes to the "Lobby shouting vs. Auto-group rooms" debate.

  18. Some of it is kind of Jagex's fault, the grouping system really isn't very effective either. But yeah as long as Jagex makes finding dung teams easier dung would become so much more fun. Can anyone truly say that? I mean, I can't remember ONCE where there were ever enough people in the auto-grouping rooms to even check whether they worked well or not. In the smaller Daemonheim castle as well as the current Daemonheim castle. Right from the beginning of Dungeoneering, people resorted to shouting out team requests. I've tried many times on smaller, more manageable worlds to try to get people to join a grouping room (including the big free-for-all room which everyone can join). Nobody ever does and they keep on shouting for teams instead. Quite irritating to be honest.
  19. The problem with Dungeoneering isn't that you can't solo effectively. The problem is that matchmaking isn't efficient enough yet. This is partly because people insist on shouting out things like "F1-10!!!!!!!" in the main lobby rather than using the more convenient auto-grouping rooms. I mean, the majority of DG'ers probably don't need to stick to any ultra-specific settings and the ones who do are probably part of a clan or already have their set group of DG'ing mates. Jagex really needs to make auto-grouping more efficient and add more sorting selections like Rushing. Dungeoneering is easily the best skill in the game because there is a very minimal grind to it and it is a lot of fun doing large dungeons with 5 people. Really requires skill to complete floors efficiently and maximize XP. However, grouping is such a pain. I just wish more people used the auto-grouping rooms rather than shouting for options in the lobby. So pointless especially when most of the people are looking for options that the auto-grouping rooms provide. The stupidity of the RuneScape population is quite startling sometimes...
  20. I'm F2P and can't do warped floors but I'm nonetheless excited! I've been playing since early 2005 and BOY have the graphics been beefed up considerably from before! RuneScape is really starting to have a distinct art style now and I'm loving it!
  21. It is a skill door for the Construction skill. Since Construction is a P2P skill, we F2P'ers get the "You are unable to repair the broken door frame" message. This happens for all skill doors that are related to a member's skill. Check out the Dungeoneering skill guide here. It's super useful when you feel stumped.
  22. I'm not understanding what you mean by this. It definitely solves a lot of confusion with the splats as mentioned in the DD. What is this "underlying problem" that you're talking about? I personally like that they're making some strides to clear things up a bit. The icons will really help use prayer more efficiently especially in crowded areas. However, the hitsplats look unbelievably UGLY and backward. I would have expected the use of particles or something like that to help spice up the look of combat. I know that it says "Work In Progress" and I really hope they take it seriously and improve the look of the hitsplats because so far, it looks hideous. Very good idea. Lame looking hitsplats.
  23. Young Al Pacino...nuff said! :shades:
  24. Exciting stuff :D Exciting stuff indeed, seeing as how the above picture shows a graphically-upgraded Draynor Village!
  25. Depends on how you use the weapons. Seeing as how your Dungeoneering levels are still a bit low, I'd suggest using a 2-handed weapon. Ice-based monsters and skeletons are weak to crush attacks so a Fractite 2h would be a good solution. I would suggest Mauls but they can only do Crush damage so aren't as flexible. However, if you aren't opposed to gaining exp in all melee skills, the Fractite Spear is the way to go. It has good attack bonuses for all 3 styles (Stab, Crush, Slash) and a decent strength bonus. IMO, it's one of the best weapons for F2P, especially before level 50. Another thing: Make sure to bind 125 of the best arrows that you can use. This is especially useful once you go into the Abandoned 1 floors where some bosses have clear disadvantages to Range. OR Bind 125 of the best combat runes. Advantage here being that you can easily create the rest of the runes for a powerful Magic attack. In Daemonheim, flexibility is KEY! So my suggestion to you is bind a Fractite Spear and 125 of your best arrows or runes. About resource collection, in F2P, Mining really is the most useful. I solo a lot and I rarely need to fish or woodcut, except for skill doors. Always carry a pickaxe, hammer, tinderbox, hatchet, fishing rod and feathers with you. The former two will be the ones that you'll use most often. Hope this helps!
