Depends on what skill category for myself. Since I do 95% of my own work and don't buy levels, if there is a cost effective way then I usually go with it. Unless the cost effective way is going to take years as opposed to months. Ex: I could mine all the ores to make nails and collect the regular plank spawns to train construction, but I am not going to do that. For agility I go with the fastest points, as I don't intend to train it after 99 unless I max out almost everything else. Magicplayak you only have 10 more levels for a new agility course.

Personally I don't care if they sell the security device or not. I do however have a major problem with in-game incentives to buy something from Jagex. If they start with that what is to stop them from adding in-game incentives to purchases made from their shop? What's next, free dragon plate with the purchase of a t-shirt? Slippery slope that should not even be started going down. For those that say Jagex wouldn't go there, if this happens what will stop all the kiddies from asking for in-game incentives to buy things from the store? -

This is an excerpt form the wikipedia page on Two-factor authentication. I believe it pretty well describes what the device in question is. "Some manufacturers also offer a One Time Password (OTP) token. These have an LCD screen which displays a pseudo-random number consisting of 6 or more alphanumeric characters (sometimes numbers, sometimes combinations of letters and numbers, depending upon vendor and model). This pseudo-random number changes at pre-determined intervals, usually every 60 seconds, but they can also change at other time intervals or after a user event, such as the user pushing a button on the token. Tokens that change after a pre-determined time are called time-based, and tokens that require a user event are referred to as sequence-based (since the interval value is the current sequence number of the user events, i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.). When this pseudo-random number is combined with a PIN or password, the resulting passcode is considered two factors of authentication (something you know with the PIN/password, and something you have from the OTP token). There are also hybrid-tokens that provide a combination of the capabilities of smartcards, USB tokens, and OTP tokens." Here is the link to the wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two-factor_authentication Actually a pretty informative page as it also goes into drawbacks of these types of systems. Another snipet from the page on costs: "Cost effectiveness There are drawbacks to two-factor authentication that are keeping many approaches from becoming widespread. Some consumers have difficulty keeping track of a hardware token or USB plug. Many consumers do not have the technical skills needed to install a client-side software certificate. As a result, adding a second factor to the authentication process typically leads to increase in costs for implementation and maintenance. Most hardware token-based systems are proprietary and charge an annual fee per user in the $50100 USD range. Deployment of hardware tokens is logistically challenging. Hardware tokens may get damaged or lost and issuance of tokens in large industries such as banking or even within large enterprises needs to be managed. In addition to deployment costs, two-factor authentication often carries significant additional support costs. A 2008 survey of over 120 U.S. credit unions by the Credit Union Journal reported on the support costs associated with two-factor authentication. In their report, software certificates and software toolbar approaches were reported to have the highest support costs. Virtual tokens and geo-locations were reported to have the lowest support costs." -

True in regards to seems to be the usual. Still doesn't make it any less pathetic. As for the doing every time to switch worlds discussed earlier in the thread, this is in the aticle; "The key will reveal a six to eight-digit code that changes every few seconds and is completely unique to you." So figure in the timer to switch and yes you would have to re-enter the code everytime you change worlds. As every time you cahnge you are re-logging into your account. Can't see many rune miners wanting this. -

Well gotta say that RWt by Jagex is very hypocritical. :shame: I am against RWT by anyone by the way. But the fact that they have to offer something like this does kind of say something about the intelligence level of the average runescape player. #-o It also speaks to how pathetic some people have gotten that they would actually hack a game account. :wall: The back-end update sounds good, but they need to get rid of the Dell servers. They can't even build a good or reliable computer. Hopefully the back-end update will make the game somewhat faster and some new things possible, but you still have to figure that it is Jagex that will be trying to implement these new things. :wall: Would like to see an official stat tracker system set-up, just for S&Gs. -
Well, I have played runescape for about 3.5 years now minus the year that I quit. I quit in June of 2007 and came back in June of 2008. The problem I see is that runescape has become too easy. It is ridiculously easy at the moment and that does take away from those that want to play the game and earn their levels. For those that want to earn their levels it is impossible to play competitively unless you use all the easy methods. Think of it like a sport, where there are those that want to gain an unfair advantage by using steroids. If the steroid usage becomes rampant then those that don't use the steroids either have to quit or start using the steroids to remain competitive. The best thing that Jagex could do for those that actually enjoy earning their levels is come out with a new version of runescape. Give anyone playing the option of keeping their username, but all scores and quests done are reset to zero. In this new version take out all player to player trading, take out all team mini-games, make npcs to complete the quests that now require two people to complete, limit multi-combat to a player and their familiar only, add enough resources so that they are gatherable without constant fighting over them. The new version would have its own high scores list. Which by the way, free worlders only should have now since Jagex stated that they wanted free worlds to be its own stand alone game. Also in the new version; no clans, no Graahks, split mining into two separate categories (ess mining and ore mining). One and only one account per person in the new version. Set up kingdom warehouses where you could get an 'assignment' of things like potions or fish that the kingdom wanted to buy from you. For the various categories that you need to make or gether much more than you need to play the game. That way the people that actually want to earn their levels could play the game and enjoy it as well. And what they have now could be left to the money worshippers, people that just want to show off their skillcapes and the social butterflies.

The gold farmers are selling something that does not belong to them. That makes them scammers/frauds. They are selling it to cheats/cheaters. Screw both ends of it, the buyers and the sellers. I personally don't care if either end eats. They are no diferent than any other scammer and should be dealt with very harshly. Too bad other countries don't adopt the Chinese regulations on underage internet usuage. Wouldn't mind if everyone had an internet I.D. card either as it would definitely put a crimp in identity theft. Nigeria should seriously adopt that practice with all the scams coming out of there.

any way 2 Play RS better on a 1.6ghz P4, with nvidia 6600 gt
jimv replied to jjjon123's topic in Tech and Computers
Get Process Explorer. Open it up. It is way better than Task Manager. It will show you if you are having Hardware Interrupts or deferred Procedure Call problems. If you are using the motherboard sound card with the motherboard manufacturers drivers you are probably getting PID 4 SYSTEM [bleep]es. If you are using Realtek ac97 drivers you are probably getting Deferred Procedure Call [bleep]es. Both of which are using up your cpu. Those are both known issues in just about every computer tech forum on the internet with nVidia 6 series video cards and onboard sound devices. -
I use Avast and use thorough scan option. Here is a link to the screenshot I took when it detected the virus: http://img34.imagevenue.com/img.php?ima ... 378lo.jpeg I did a scan 2 weeks ago and this did not show up. I have had that runescape[Caution: Executable File] file for over a year. This was the only infected file that the scan turned up. Also I posted this in the Runescape forums and someone else has it too.
-
I just did a virus scan and there was a win32:trojan-gen in runescape[Caution: Executable File]. Wasn't there 2 weeks ago on my last thorough scan. Everyone might want to at least scan the runescape[Caution: Executable File] file.

HijackThis Help (Browser hijacked) - Can Be closed
jimv replied to jasignhagj's topic in Tech and Computers
Really, really sounds like you have the smitfraud virus. If you can, use a library or a friends computer to download a Netscape 7.1 or any old netscape browser that still works, burn to cd and load on your comp, as the hijacker with the smitfraud virus does not work on it. Then surf for smitfraud and virtumonde fixes.Went through this last year and it is truly a pain in the butt. You most commonly get the smitfraud virus from sites that use the small pop-up window that says "warning your computer may be at risk" click here for a free scan. Sound familiar? -

jimv replied to jjjon123's topic in Tech and Computers
If you don't already have, download Process Explorer (it is like task manager times 10). If you can, open it when running runescape and see what is using up your cpu. nVidia 6 series cards have a major problem with some sound cards causing Deferred Procedure Calls to [bleep]e and make the game very choppy. I have a 6200 myself, and until I can replace my current onboard sound card I can not use sound at all. Oh yeah, if in task manager or Process Explorer you find that the PID 4 SYSTEM is [bleep]ing it is also caused by your sound card drivers and a nVidia conflict. Process Explorer will also let you see threads and stacks to find an issue. Is it agaist forum rules to post links to Proscess Explorer or threads pertaining to the issues that I described? The threads are on the sysinternals forum. -
Lamps or half key if offered. Although 25 mith ores is tempting.

Building a computer for your specific wants/needs is always preferrable, however if you check there might be a system pre-built that is what you want. Also you may find a computer system for sale at a low price and then just alter a component or two for the system you want. That route may be cheaper in the long run. Browse computer sales sites on the net to get an idea of what the systems cost then check the individual parts that you would want prices on the manufacturer's site. That will give you a better idea of how to go about getting the most machine for your money. Keep in mind compatability of the components as not everything will work together at all or very well. Also whether or not you will be able to easily upgrade the machine in the future.

Hello. Was having a lot of problems while playing runescape with the PID 4 System eating up a lot of my cpu. Through sysinternal forums I have resolved the issue and thought that I would pass along the fix to anyone else that may have the same problem. The problem that I had was due to having the audio drivers from my motherboard manufacturer installed. This was due to having an onboard sound card and the site that makes drivers for it saying that the motherboard manufacturers might be better if you have an onboard sound card. Anyways they are not. The sound card drivers from Realtek are far better and stop the PID 4 problems completely. So if you have an onboard sound card and are experiencing the aforementioned PID problems then you may want to change your drivers.

How is a picture of a garden gnome mooning people inappropriate graphics? It is a ceramic gnome that can be purchased and put in your garden. It is not a real butt being shown. But just to make a point, to those that felt it was so inappropriate, you can do what the image suggests and kiss my rear end. This forum is possibly even more pathetic than Runescape's own forum.

Hello. The bestiary states that the dark beasts will only use magic when attacked. I just attacked one about 15 minutes ago with protest from magic prayer on. It tried to use magic which was blocked. It then proceeded to hit the crap out of me with melee. So it still uses melee when attacked.

All they had to do to avoid combat being interuppted by randoms was put in some code that detected whether or not the player was in a battle and then wait until a few seconds after combat to give you the random. They made the random rewards better for higher level players then made it so higher level players get less randoms. If the reward amounts averaged out the same it wouldn't be a problem, but the total lack of randoms means no rewards at all.
-
First off I have never compained about too many randoms. Yes the rewards do add up. I play all the categories so when I get around to doing a certain one maybe once a month then all the rewards pertaining to that one are there. This is not a rant post. This forum is for discussions. This topic was for discussions about the new random update. Costumes are useless garbage. I don't wear armor while doing anything other than fighting. I wear boots of lightness and a spottier cape. You know those things that actually have a purpose of aiding in game play.

Weekly Poll: How often do you use Tip.It and its forums?
jimv replied to n_odie's topic in General Discussion
Some days I visit here 10+ times and some days not at all. Really kind of depends on what I am doing on runescape. If I am doing busy work like picking flax, mining or even smelting then I don't usually have tip.it open. If I am doing something that may allow a little afk or if looking up other info then I open tip.it quite a few times a night. As I have a single processor computer I can't really just leave tip.it open other than the world map due to some of the ads. -
Hello. The past few days since the update to the randoms I had been getting a few randoms. Not too much different than the amount that I got before the update. Last night however, I played for 11 hours and got ZERO randoms. Personally I think that totally sucks. Randoms were a decent source of items. I did like the choice of reward option, but it doesn't really matter if I get no randoms. In my opinion all they really needed to do was get rid of the costume rewards and the randoms that affected more than one person. The costumes are useless in gameplay. It was pretty messed up when say you were woodcutting and maybe a litle afk and someone else came up to start in on the tree turning it into an ent. Not even really your random. I hope this lack of randoms does not persist.

No what they should be doing, as I have stated before, is make all stationary items work like the farming patches or like the ess and pure ess rocks do. See on those things it wouldn't matter if everyone that played the game wanted to do it at the same time. Or if up to the 2000 player limit wanted to do it on the same world they could. Then make it so that the dungeons load for each player individually or at least the monsters within the dungeons do although that would be much harder. At least they should make some worlds like this for those that just want to play the game.

Exactly who are you to say what is normal behaviour on an internet game? Just because a lot of people do something does not make it normal or even right. Why would I want to stand around and not get anything accomplished on a video game? Why should I need to interact with people to play a video game? Just because you and others can not handle being alone does not make me anti-social. I enjoy my alone time. I have never been lonely in my life, because I am not a feeble-minded person. When you clean your house or room, hoping that you do, do you like it when there are others getting in your way? Do you like getting in others way when they are trying to do it? Much better for anyone trying to do it when no one else is there. You can usually accomplish much more when you are not interfered with in the process of doing it. Do you like it when others interfere with you getting your job done? Do you like to interfere with others trying to get their job done? Have you ever paid for a round of golf? Do you like it when the group in front of you is goofing around slowing you down? Do you like to be the one goofing around ruining everyone else's round? Why do you come to tip-it most of the time? Is it to interact with others? Or is it to look up information so that you do not have to ask someone on the game? To me the best part of tip-it is that I can find the information right away and not have to waste time trying to ask someone in the game. Now, there may indeed be times that you simply can not accomplish something by yourself and have to ask for help. Personally, I like to keep that to as minimal a number as possible. More pertaining to the fraud part. I have a right to a reasonable assumption that when buying a product that I will be able to use said product. Jagex does not have to state that they guarantee that you will be able to play the game, it is automatically implied by their sale of the product. Defintion of guarantee from Mirriam Webster dictionary: an assurance for the fulfillment of a condition: as a: an agreement by which one person undertakes to secure another in the possession or enjoyment of something b: an assurance of the quality of or of the length of use to be expected from a product offered for sale often with a promise of reimbursement Where in the terms and conditions does it say that I may not be able to do some part of the game due to overselling of the product? Overselling = overcrowding or not providing enough to go around to everyone that they sold it to.
-
Well for your information, I do hop immediately when an area I go into to fight is busy. As for speaking kinder to "noobs" everyone I mentioned was over level 90 combat. Yes I could have went somewhere else at the start, but why exactly couldn't they go there when someone else was already using the spot where I was at? And you can take your mommy comment and stick it where the sun deosn't shine. Do you understand that? Anti-social? Why, because I am not some feeble idiot that can't go 5 minutes without talking to someone without curling up in the fetal position or popping some happy zombie drug so I don't kill myself. If you actually do use a cannon then that automatically makes you a rear-end hole. Now as for the fraud, what Jagex does is no different than someone selling say 200 tickets for a flight that only has 150 seats then telling the buyers to compete for the seats or wait around. Every person playing this game, that pays to play it, should be able to play whatever part that they have the required levels for at any time they want to play it without waiting around doing nothing. Period.

Speaking from the standpoint of someone that has 99 mining, my runescape name is jim_vierling if you want to check, mining can be alright if you can find an empty mine. The worst part of mining is when you have to fight for the ores or gems with other players. Say there are 2 rune ores and you both try to mine each ore at the same time trying to get both of them. You each get 1 of them. Both of you just wasted the time it took for the other to get their ore for nothing. As for making money, I did not try to make money from mining. I used the ores for smithing and the gems for crafting. Then I alched the final product. That way I got xp in mining, smithing, crafting and magic plus the money. By the way I also mined my own pure essence and made my own runes so any money from alching is pure profit. Jagex needs to make everything on the game that is stationary work like the farming patches do. That way no one has to fight with anyone else to get what they are trying to do done. Jagex needs to amke all the dungeons load individually as well so it would not matter if 50 people are trying to fight in the same dungeon.
