  1. ago, people managed to live their lives with a hut made out of sticks. Do you really think that you have an objectively "better" life than they did? Do you think they didnt enjoy their life? You ever worked manual labor? Did anything the hard way? I'm strongly doubting no by your posting so far. Ever milked a cow? Planted a garden? These things can be done by machine, they can be done manually. A cell phone is a convenience. Lol this is ridiculous. I am the one questioning the need for technology, and you make an immature unreasonable assumption like this. What is your reasoning behind this? I seriously don't even understand. A guy says that we DONT need this crazy technology, but you seem to think that guy doesn't enjoy doing things with a hands on approach. I have done plenty of manual labor, thank you very much. And it is probably the reason that I hold the views that I do. A hard life breeds character. A life of laziness builds obesity and spoiled brats. Enough is enough. I'm asking this question because you have the audacity to question if we need a cell phone in our daily lives. We decidable it's a convenience so we make the choice, and hey today a report came out saying it's NOT linked to brain cancer. so yay! If you're going to have the insane approach to actually pick a device which cannot be easily replicated in the absence out of the device. If you're going to pick a device for the downfall of society that makes people lazy, pick the Calculator or the engine. The PC or a device that is actually replacing a manual task. I want to be connected to my friends wherever I go and that cannot be done without the aid of technology. As for manual labor, i'm not talking about doing it in the modern era, again as you are so fond of whining , you MISSED THE POINT. A cell phone is a device that makes life more efficient, and enjoyable for those of us who are able to use one and get the joy from it, mentally and physically. A Jackhammer, electronic/Battery or gas powered Saw/Drill or other piece of hardware is a device that makes life efficient either by providing a quicker way to do things better. a Cell phone does the same thing. A hard life breeds character? It also seemingly breeds contempt and hatred towards the people who have the more lavish lifestyle. it also continue to divides the classes with misunderstanding. I've made things with my hands and walked 20 miles in a day (Albiet on a hike and not a need for transportation), I've hunted before for sport and could easily do so for survival, I've planted and grown corn, Potatoes strawberries and other food. I'm also educated and realize I can pay someone to build something for me, or buy it built, I can find a way to go from A to B and go to the store to sneak upon a rumproast or harvest my fruits. The manual labor class needs the desk working class to make money to build more buildings for manual labor anyway. Your "Friends" that judge you based on a cell are either not real good friends or you come from a culture i've yet to encounter. ~Das
  2. It's no different than a car or a facebook. I've ran into people who dont have a cell phone more than people who don't have a facebook. So you can either accept your argument is initially flawed or denounce technology altogether. Social Norms change, with our without you - and will continue to do so. You can bet your ass if the goverment said I needed a tracking RFID or Christianity was banned - i would say no, and if it was a problem, they could come and install one over my cold dead, lifeless body - because I choose to stand up for those issues, Thats too far in controlling my life, Too far in the application of technology. So you either feel strongly about it, or you don't. You ever worked manual labor? Did anything the hard way? I'm strongly doubting no by your posting so far. Ever milked a cow? Planted a garden? These things can be done by machine, they can be done manually. A cell phone is a convenience. Whats bad about it? It's a convenience, it's not like when i'm eating , i'm going to freak out and stop and chat, I will check the caller ID, because it could be a family emergency, but if it's a friend, they will wait as long as I deem necessary. Phones have voicemail. My Grandparents, Grew up in the depression, and you know as much as they talk about the good old days, they sure as hell don't want to go back to that and they know that. Do you think Washington would of preferred a flush toilet and a sink with hot water or a hole in the ground? Do you think Washington would of preferred muskets or m16s? I grew up on Dial up, Did I have it bad? No, it was what I knew, all anyone knew and the norm. I had a cell phone with a game boy (green/black) Led when I was 16, SMS wasn't mainstream and phones didn't have keyboards, cameras or the internet. Hell, We had MIDI ringtones, and they were COOL. Why did I have a cell at 16? I drove a motor Vehicle, and I had a job. I could of got stranded or in an accident and needed to make a call. It's a tool, nothing more, nothing less, it's up to someone to decide how to use the tool, and yes, I carry it around with me, I also carry my wallet. It's a convenience, and you can say i'm addicted to it, and i'm going to say you're naive, and haven't hit the real world yet in terms of actual responsibility. Sorry if thats harsh. You can go without a cell phone, It may affect your ability to maintain a job with lots of responsibility, and it may cost you friends (so you say, i've yet to meet someone who cared about if people had a cell to be friends) - But how thats how you choose to live life.
  3. Do you have to keep up with a Wallet? Keys? Any real objects that require any form of responsibility? I put my keys, wallet and cell in the same place every night. Else it is in my pants pocket it's not like i have to keep it on a leash, it has a ringer. I think if you hate technology that much, you should go become amish or quaker. I believe you are refering to RF-ID's not cells.
  4. I own a cell phone. I have it with me daily, and keep a charger in my car. I have valid reasons for this. 1) It allows people to contact me when I am not home, I am often away from my house, especially when I was enrolled in Uni and traveling. No one has ever gave me grief for missing calls. 2) My grandparents health is on the decline, it's nice to be able to know if something happens and be available for an emergency 3) Texts allow me to communicate short messages to people and bypass phone calls to communicate 4) I have a job, something I presume you don't by your attitude, due to the nature of my job, I'm on call to a degree. 5) Mobile web allows me to check things as the need arises - pricecheck something on amazon, reverse look up a number or get directions or check my dvd collection page to see if i own that movie before i buy it. 6) Mobile IM - Lets me assist in running this forum if something is needed on the road. My parents, understand and realize I'm a 22 year old with a degree from a university - why would they worry? I can handle myself? If you're parents worry and you feel the cell phone is a burden due to this, you're clearly under 18, or you have strict parents . I don't always answer my phone, some days, I might not feel like talking, or i'm doing something important. I don't take my phone to church, out of respect for god's house, and I don't reply to texts. Infact I got a text from my coworker at Noon. - I didn't bother replying to him until I came into work 5 hours later, he didn't even think anything of it. Last night I got a text from a girl I like, I responded in under a minute. Today I got a call from my buddy who has been my friend since 6th grade. I was watching an episode of Angel, and didn't feel like pausing it. I called him back 45 minutes later. It's an issue that you are making a mountain out of a molehill. It's been invaluable for times when 1) I'm picking up an item for a friend/family member at a store and forgot wtf i'm supposed to pick up 2) Group projects in uni 3) Calling my boss when my tire was flat and would be late for a critical meeting at work 4) Making plans on the Fly 5) being able to talk to pretty women anywhere and everywhere.
  5. the one at work, is quite epic. Legally required to keep my history for 45 Days, lol. so lots of random stuff in it.

  6. Half trolling, half wanting someone to convince me to write a darn good argument like you did. I've always enjoyed XP, and windows 7 has been a dream so far for my personal use, so I certainly wouldn't mind knowing things like you posted, I certainly found your post informative and interesting, i'll have to catch up with you on MSN or something later
  7. i hope it was the one at work. ;)

  8. Windows 7 isn't that expensive *Shrugs*
  9. so off topic. Someone tell me why this is better than windows 7. :P *runs*
  10. most people like my laid back personality.

  11. *shrugs* hell of an alibi either way though! :P

  12. if i was on your profile, i was probably investigating a report or something. :P

  13. just to clarify, i use the stick, not spray on axe.
  14. das

    greatest athlete?

Aikman, Bradshaw and Montana have the same if not more number of wins. Justify it. Roethlisberger - could also tie/pass him.
  15. I too sweat alot or used too. Infact I can safely say I had like 10 grey t-shirts in highschool because of that fact.. I can say I sweat alot less at 22, than I did at say 16 or 17. Even doing more strenuous physical activity. I really find Axe Anti Perspective to work well - it has a few different smells too.
  16. uh, we fight with guns, not hands.
  17. It's not that we are unwilling to code software or things to better the forum - we do lots of coding projects. But as far as we know and can tell- this feature EXISTS and works for everyone but YOU - and theres no need to make a special coding feature for you since your problem is a minor inconvenience at best and reasonable workarounds (back+f5, history) do exist i'm going to leave this topic open - just to see if any one else has the same issue. I'd love to hear if people can use the login redirect feature and it works or if it redirects them to the index.
  18. I highly doubt your ISP is to blame, it sounds like you have your computer locked down for "Security" - so it's probably within a custom setting regarding that. Going to extremes like that to filter anything remotely mentioning to a website such as facebook - makes me feel with extreme certainty that you have blocked something preventing the feature from working like it does for everyone else. if you dont have a facebook, no need to block facebook, they are for the most part harmless. Social norms including privacy ARE CHANGING.
  19. I've tested this feature on a wnindows 7. xp, vista and 2000 machine and even OSX - I tested in IE/CHROME/FF and Safari/FF on the mac. All log you in at the page you were last logged in on. Asides from the Windows 7 Machine, these are all test machines with basic anti-virus installed with little default settings changed. My Windows 7 machine, which is locked down fairly secure - is not causing an issue either. it's not an IPB/TIF issue If you're that paranoid of facebook, Delete your facebook, and stop worrying about them ;)
  20. No I'm pretty sure Uwe Boll invented moving things through the air. But Christopher Walken moved through air before uwe boll. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7Ky5R-vxns
  21. Uwe boll films are horrid, People say he's one of the worst directors of all times. if someone's ripping from him, someone is desperate, lots of characters have the ability to move things. Runewright is more of a magneto to me.
  22. Man, Jagex ripping off Uwe Boll? HARSHEST flame i've ever seen on Jagex
  23. Under $18 means youre poor? Under 18 years of age - Try posting from your cell :P
  24. Alright guys, [Administrative post] enough with the poor and not poor comments. Alot of posters here - are under $18 - that means unless parents decide to fly them to england, not happening no matter how rich parents may be. More posters here - are college/uni students, Thats like a special zone of poverty. ;P Even if you can afford it - it's still a BIG trip, that unless you make six figures (not everyone does) that's a pretty pricey thing, Statistically most middle class American families spend less on vacation then what this event costs .
