April 10, 201016 yr My neighbors and I have all had our gas siphoned in the past week, more than once. My mom said just buy locking gas caps, but my dad and I want to do something else. We were debating buying a bear trap, or something else to catch them. Anybody have any ideas?
April 10, 201016 yr You could put a video recorder outside pointing at your truck. That could help. Anything else just seems too dangerous, or too obvious. Bear trap? They use a hose don't they? Could just reach over it. Electrify your truck? Are you trying to kill the guy, or just anyone who touches the truck? The noose thing MIGHT work if they cross your yard, however. April 10, 201016 yr I dunno if actually trapping or electrocuting the person doing it is the best idea, as fun as it would be. No doubt you'd come off worse than the person siphoning the fuel.Maybe setting up a camera and catching them red-handed? April 10, 201016 yr Author They most likely wouldn't use a flashlight, so it would be hard for a camera unless it was night-vision or something. They would have to go up to the truck to open the tank and put the hose in, so a bear trap would work. Same for the noose, they have to get right up by the truck so we could put it there. Just anything to make them yell and wake us up so we can get their plates or some other kind of ID

April 10, 201016 yr Author Well, it's very dark outside, on black pavement, a black trap would blend in pretty well. We don't think they've been using a flashlight either, so they most likely wouldn't see it

April 10, 201016 yr So they break through the locks? Well I'm stumped. What you should do after you figure this out, is make them pay the equalivent you, and your neighbors, lost. AKA breaking some house windows or putting water in their own gas tank. If they're doing it to all the neighbors, then they won't have a clear indication on who did it. April 10, 201016 yr I think the staying up all night is your best bet. i don't know much about cars so people more qualified could tell confirm or deny this, but why not get all the gas out of your car, put something in that ruins engines and when they siphon it out, it will ruin whatever they put it in surely costing them a lot more than you, the only thing with this is they don't get caught and you don't know about the damage you caused. As I said I don't know much about cars so I'm not sure if it would ruin your engine if you never ran it. Ooo this just came to me! Maybe a mouse trap!
