Minecraft General
^Next step: Rig it full of TNT and vid it blowing up. It would have been better if you made it of sand, so it could fall. I've started playing again.

The Style Thread
Shiny, I think you might be 9. This is why I don't visit the IRL photos thread.

i heard after 72 hrs of staying awake ur body slips into a coma
This is not true - people have stayed up far longer. I've been up for over 48 hours in a row, and it wasn't that unusual. Around 40-48 hours, though, you start hallucinating. I can't say I hallucinated any of the times, but I don't really remember it well. There was this guy a while back who stayed up for like a week in a bar playing pool, and recorded everything in a journal. If I can find the source, I'll post it, but he currently holds the record for longest time without sleep (I think). His theory was that you can shut down the left half of your brain and use the right half, then switch back indefinitely. The only interesting thing I remember from the article was that at one point the cue ball wasn't round any more. This was because his left and right brain weren't communicating, so the eyes put together a slightly oval shape rather than a round one.

Real life help & advice
It's not clear which, but the most reliable I've heard is that the first is correct. Go with whatever your current teacher says, but I think when it's a first name it always has the /s/, when it's a plural word (e.g. the Joneses') it doesn't. I've had to deal with this question my whole life, as my first name ends in /s/.

America, Violence and Guns
If you feel the same when faced with a knife than with a gun, you're stupid. A crippled old woman with one arm and one eye could kill you with a gun. A knife, while still dangerous, both gives you a lot more chance to fight for yourself and reduces the risk of accidental injury.

What ever happened with that BP thing?
Black out may be a strong word, but if you can prove this (below) I'd believe you. I hate to be that guy, but do you have a reliable source? Like I said, the biggest issue here is that Americans don't want to hear about their own problems. We're the greatest country in the world, man, nature could at least make an effort to keep up its end of the deal.

What ever happened with that BP thing?
And then they ask us why we don't trust corporations - or the government itself. The truth is, I am unable to feel as passionate about this issue because it is in the Gulf of Mexico, and I'm safe up here eating northeastern seafood and swimming in heated pools (nobody's crazy enough to go in the ocean in the middle of January). This is what most Americans are feeling - since the problem doesn't directly threaten them, it isn't as huge as it really is. The oil spill is becoming exactly what every non-American crisis becomes - disconnected, and fuel for rich white girls who want to add something to their college applications, or for angry anti-government people to complain that the public is stupid. What bothers me the most, though, is that we could be seeing mass health issues a few years down the road which won't be credited to the BP disaster.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
70F is too hot. Mid-60s is better. And the same temp year round sounds boring - you'd never get any snow!

- America, Violence and Guns
I do completely agree with Y_Guy, but I think we should still keep in mind that the statistics may not be completely reliable. Many other factors influence the amount of gun crime, including cultural differences, population and density, and geographical location. Even with the same laws, I would expect gun crime in the US to be more common than in Canada because of our proximity to Mexico.- Last one to post wins

This is a very serious issue which society needs to address. Maybe I'll make a thread in OT.- Last one to post wins

nothing wrong with furries nothing at all.- America, Violence and Guns
- What book are you currently reading?
Read Kafka's The Metamorphosis. It was pretty good. Very short, though, which is sort of good in the context of The Brothers Karamazov, but I still feel like I need something fast-paced to read. I'm thinking about going down to Barnes & Noble to buy the last three novels in the Hannibal series by Thomas Harris, or maybe some Stephen King.- Last one to post wins
