I suspect you were simply frozen in place, possibly by an entangle spell, and also teleblocked as kinggabe said. Unless I am mistaken you cannot go up or down stairs while frozen. nevermind then If not being able to go back down some stairs is a bug and the guy knew about it and lured you into the situation to use that bug to his advantage it would be bug exploitation. Which is a big deal
