    Today...

The Witcher 3 just changed me, that's all it is. After playing that game i just started looking for different things in games. I think The Witcher 3 is what really got me into RPGs and since then i just don't look at FPS games the same.

Never really been a fan of the jumping either, which is ironic given the fact that Halo and Advanced Warfare used to be two of my favorite shooters. But i think i just started to realize how much bullshit jumping adds to the game. Makes it so much more inconsistent. Becomes less about who has better aim and more about who has and hasn't got a scuf. I think the big thing is that i'm really just not good at these games anymore. Things have changed so much since the days of MW3 and BO2, which is when i played the most. People just got so much better, and i think it's largely due to the growth of the esports scene. Everyone wants to become a pro, everyone spends 10 hours a day grinding, etc. If i need my fill of PvP action these days i just hop on Injustice 2 or The Division. Completely different genres, but they do the trick.
  3. Not gonna lie, but from everything i've seen the Necro in D3 looks pretty boring. I was excited for it but after seeing builds and more gameplay recently the excitement is gone. Getting back into The Division again. Been putting in a few hours here and there. Overall i still love the game, always will, despite the negativity it has received. Only problem i'm having is finding players that actually know what they're doing. Some of the late-game content is pretty difficult and really requires you to know what you're doing as well as team coordination. With the match making i keep getting matched with people who have no idea what they're doing and people who have really bad builds. Builds you would expect from someone who's put 50 hours into the game, which is fine, but they're queuing up for end-game content, probably hoping to get carried, and quite frankly it's just not possible.

Not really my scene to be honest. Shooters in general just aren't my thing anymore. Think the only thing shooting related i still find fun is The Division, and it's more for the RPG/Loot-farming aspects of it. Actually been thinking of getting back into Diablo 3 a bit. Probably won't buy the Necro expansion since i have no interest in anything but the Crusader, but it's been a while since i played it.

Played BO3 for the first time in about 14 months today. Was somewhat fun. Good change of pace from Injustice 2, Nioh, etc.

You don't watch The Dark Knight to see Batman lol. You watch it to see probably the best super villain performance in the history of Hollywood.

We have jumper cables in all our cars and we have a device that charges batteries via different sources of power, but the problem is the battery in my car is old and the car has been standing in the heat for the past couple of months with very little use. So the battery deteriorates over time. One of the cells most likely just gave in (it's happened to previous cars as well). So i can jump start it, but chances are it'll die if the car drops below a certain RPM or alternatively it just won't start again once the car has been switched off.

Me and my mom went to "do our hair" today. Okay i know it sounds weird. There's this South African guy that comes to town every couple of weeks to cut hair for various people within the South African community here. He's really good. He's like the only hairdresser i've found that doesn't butcher my hair. He only comes every couple of weeks for a week or two, then goes back home (to South Africa). I'm still growing my hair out at the moment, so i really just wanted to go for a trim. My mom wanted to color her hair again to get rid of the grey, and while he was fixing her up he asked me if i ever thought about getting highlights. Long story short, i ended up getting highlights. Dunno why... guess it ads a nice touch i guess. Anyway, we had go there with her car... that doesn't have a working AC. The compressor broke a week or two ago and she's been too lazy to get it fixed (and she hasn't been using her car much lately anyway). My car is in for a service and some tune-ups and my other car's battery is completely [bleep]ed because i haven't been using it much. So we kinda didn't have a choice unless we went up the road to buy a new battery for it. So just to avoid the hassle we used her car. We left the house at 9:30 am and i checked the weather. 109 degrees... at 9:30. When we left at around 12:30 i checked it again. 117 degrees. Literally felt like i was melting away sitting in the car. Driving with the windows open is laughable too because the air outside burns your face off anyway. Never again. Never.

My sister got back from Sri Lanka last night. Well kinda. Got a call from the police saying she got arrested on the airport because she had a gram of weed in her handbag. Apparently my sister is stupid enough to not check her handbag for shit like this before coming back home. So my dad had to go to the deportation department this morning where she's being held to see what he can do. One of the ladies there said everything is fine, she can go home since it's just a gram, but other people are saying she's getting deported either way. Honestly, she's my sister and all, but i couldn't care less what ends up happening. I know i'll miss her in a few weeks, but she's done nothing but cause stress and drama for the last couple of years with her disrespect and selfishness. Maybe going back to South Africa will bring her back down to earth. Funny thing is that my parents are acting like my sister is a victim in all of this. Sure, it's hella unlucky being caught and deported for just 1 gram. Guess it's good my parents don't know that she's been dealing out of our house for the past couple of months.

Love that it only takes me like 2 minutes to get through security/passport control at the airport now. Last week when i flew to Greece i skipped all the lines, and when i came back yesterday same thing. Not a lot of people know about the e-gate yet, so it's literally just like me and 1 or 2 other people every time i've used it so far. It's so much better. That used to be the worst part of flying for me, coming back and having to stand in line at least an hour because of all the people there. It's kind of weird that it hasn't caught on yet. Been able to use e-gate for over a year now, and i still never see people use it.

Oh okay so because you know a person he knows a person in South Africa you're able to form an educated opinion? Cool. Well i met this one Estonian guy at a bar once and we talked about it for like 2 minutes while i was waiting for my drink. He was a complete pompous "know it all" ass. It can only leave me to believe that he's the typical Estonian. Like seriously, the things you say sometimes. Lower middle-class families in South Africa WILL NOT have maids. Majority of the kids in my class were from lower middle-class households and only a handful of them actually had maids, and they weren't "full time". They'd come in once or twice a week to clean and that's it. The only people i knew with fulltime/live-in maids were people from upper middle-class families. But yeah, you obviously know more about South Africa than someone who grew up there and lived there for 16 years. So i'm probably just full of shit. At current exchange rates, i don't think my parents earned anywhere near $40k a year the last few years we lived in South Africa. Think for like a 2 year period when we were really struggling it was closer to something like $15k lol. Now collectively as a family (well, before i quit my job) i think we were probably close to $50k a month lol. We've come a long way.

Wealth is completely relative, you're right. Veiva kind of puts things in perspective saying they'd live like kings with a $40k income.
  13. Recently bought The Surge and Injustice 2. The Surge was fun. Very much like Dark Souls/Bloodborne in many aspects. Probably more comparable to a more polished version of Lords of the Fallen (seeing as it was made by the same people). Really didn't have too many issues/complaints with it game-play wise. Seemed pretty smooth. Character progression was interesting and different. Decent variety of weapons, not that i'm too fussed by something like that anyway. I generally like to stick to one or two weapons throughout a play through. My only real complaint is the length of the game, and the number of bosses. Took me about a third of the time i would generally spend on a Dark Souls/Bloodborne play through. For a game that costs the exact same, i kind of expected something similar. Regardless of that, the game was still extremely fun and i'm already more than halfway through my second play through. Seems like the kind of game i can easily play 3 or 4 times. Injustice 2 is my first "fighting game" since like Tekken 2. It's the first time i've ever played a game like this online too. It's really fun. Huge learning curve. Probably spend 10 hours playing single player modes before i played my first online game. Wanted to get a good grasp of the game first, find one or two characters i felt comfortable with, learn their moves, combos, etc. Feels like i picked it up pretty fast. Currently sitting at a 100/106 W/L online, which i'm pretty happy with. Slowly getting better. Slowly learning how to counter certain playstyles. Overall i like the game a lot more than i thought i would. i sort of took a gamble on it because i thought other players would completely dominate me online, meaning i'd get fed up of losing after the first 20-ish games then never play it again. Luckily that's not what happened. Additionally i really like the gear-farming aspect of the game. It's fun. You can customize your characters to look like complete bad-asses.

Oh my bad, i forgot you're our local expert on everything about anything. You obviously know a lot more about what middle class in South Africa is, having been there so many times yourself.

Dude we were on the lower spectrum of middle-class back in South Africa. That's 3rd world middle-class. I fully understand what middle-class is.

Obviously depends on the car. If you're buying a car for $5000 i'd say it's not unrealistic to assume most people can buy it cash. When you're buying a car for $50 000 it's unrealistic to assume most people could buy it cash.

I generally have good self-control and sensibility when it comes to certain matters, and when it comes to a credit card i treat it like drugs. I have no idea how it'll affect me, so i'd rather stay away from it. I spoke to my dad about this very topic 2 or 3 days ago and he told me this: everyone has to be willing to make debt at least twice in their life. One is when buying a car, the other is when buying a house. Perfectly valid reasons. Luckily for me the first time i bought a car my dad bought it cash and i paid him back (so technically i avoided debt), and when i bought my M4 i had enough to buy it cash. And as long as i live in the Middle East buying a house isn't really an option, so i don't have to worry about that either. As long as i live in the Middle East i want to avoid debt as much as i can. If i can't buy a car cash, then i don't want it.

I'm not going to lie, i've always been terrified of credit cards. Back in the US i had a debit account which allowed me to go into an overdraft (probably worded this very poorly). Anyway... So pretty much once every other month, usually near the end of the month, i'd use more money than i actually had. It really just meant that i had to pay a small penalty/fee to get it out of overdraft (i think it was usually around $50 for the first 7 days and then it increased daily after that). But that was enough to put me off the idea of a credit card for life. I'm actually terrified of debt. Especially living in a middle eastern country. I've heard way too many horror stories of people who are unable to pay back their debt. They get locked up for let's say 3 years or until they can pay off their debt. But they have no way to pay off their debt while in jail anyway. So either way, they're [bleep]ed. Don't want that shit happening to me. Now I withdraw x-amount of money at the start of each month then lock my card up in my safe. If i run short by the end of the month... well tough luck.

So according to some Saudi and UAE news sources, any sympathy expressed towards Qatar over social media can land you a fine of ~$150k+ and 3+ years in jail. Things are getting a bit ridiculous to be honest. I really can't see things ending too well. Won't really surprise me if we're handed a dose of freedom in the not to distant future.

    Today...

Earlier today it was announced that 5 GCC countries have cut diplomatic ties with Qatar due to some comments they made regarding Iran, or something like that. Basically as of Tuesday (i think) air and ground transport to and from these countries will be suspended, diplomats have been asked to leave these countries, exports and imports will stops. Basically the entire country is in a state of panic right now because a lot of out eggs, chicken, milk, and frozen vegetables comes from Saudi. Went to the store earlier and shelves were EMPTY. People are freaking the [bleep] out. I don't know if i should laugh or what. It's going to be an interesting couple of weeks ahead. Don't think it's going to be much longer till the US gets involved here again and "asks" the Emir to step down... again.

Yesterday i spent some time clearing my room. It's about a week before my exams start again and i wanted to get rid of some of the clutter standing around so i can study in neater environment. Anyway, so i came across a small box hidden under some shit on my dresser that contained all my old studs and rings from when i still had my piercings a couple of years back. I took one of them out cleaned it, and tried to see if my piercings were actually still open. Took some effort, but they actually were. Felt rather weird having them in for the first time in so long.

It's not really like it bothers me at all, it's just a curiosity thing. I'm just really curious as to what goes/went through their heads. Getting married at such a young age seems like such a waste. Probably not the best way to put it, but i can't really think of any other way. I'm grateful every day that i moved away from SA and from that mentality. I find it ironic because when i was 10 years younger i was the one saying i would be married by 25 and they were the ones saying they were going to wait till they're much older, now it's the complete opposite. The older i get the harder i find it to believe that married people are 100% happy/satisfied. I can't imagine eating the same steak for the rest of my life, even if i get to eat it everyday. If you think getting married is like eating steak, I think you'd be wise to avoid it :) I'm sure you understood the analogy anyway.

    Today...

So i went through the "People you may know" thing on Facebook yesterday because i was looking for a girl who's number i lost. I knew her name but not how to spell it, and she mentioned she knows a few friends of mine so i figured i might find her. Anyway, as i was scrolling through the list i saw a ton of the people i used to go to school with back in South Africa. I kind of lost touch with most of them after i moved out here, as things normally go. They're all obviously the same age as me, but it seems like their lives are so much different. 26/27, married, kids, jobs, bills to pay, etc. I think out of the 10 or so really close friends i had only one of them isn't married with kids, and it's because he's gay (and i believe still sort of in the closet). Here i am, closing in on 27, no job, no wife, no kids, and pretty much no obligations. I don't know why, but i found i gave me a really strange feeling. Is that what i would have become had i never moved? Looking at things now i can't say that i really want to get married, at least not in the near future. It has nothing to do with committing to only 1 sexual partner (i think i could deal with that) but more so the fact that i don't really want to give up my current lifestyle, which i would have to do if i invite someone else into my life in that manner. I'm someone who enjoys getting home, putting on a series while i make food, then spending the rest of the night playing video games or going out with friends. Not even to mention the fact that i'm one of those people who watches gaming tournaments. Try explaining that to a girl. I just don't see that changing. And i can't imagine many of the girls i've met in the past couple of years would settle for that either. Heck, even sometimes when i go on dates i sit there the entire time thinking "i'd rather be home playing games/i'd rather be out with friends, when does the sex come". It's so weird, and for a long time i felt sort of embarrassed about it even though i'm sure my life is 100 times better than theirs. And this is not me being cocky, this is me being honest. I have literally no worries in the world. I have a [bleep]ing nice car, great friends, a loving family, friends with benefits, i don't have too much trouble hooking up with new girls either. I don't have to worry about kids, waking up to take them to school, picking them up, etc. I don't have to worry about a nagging wife and keeping her happy, etc. Anyway... Just something i randomly thought of today. Weird how different my life is from the people i grew up with, people who i used to think were like-minded.
