  1. Firefox is totally immune to ActiveX trojans because it's an IE only feature.
  2. Use Mozilla Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. FF is a lot safer than IE. OCX trojans/spyware only work in IE.
  3. Are you sure it wasn't picture.jpg[Caution: ExecutableFile]? The default setting hides the extensions so you just see picture.jpg. The GDI+ jpeg security hole has been patched LONG time ago so it shouldn't work anymore. Jagex posted in on their "news" really late.
  4. Virus: A malicious program that can spread automatically. Trojan: A malicious program that is disguised as legitimate and can not spread automatically. Relies on user's stupidity. Spyware: NEVER gets installed on your computer without your knowledge (unless someone other installs it). If it installs without user's knowledge, it is a Trojan horse. Advertising programs are usually called spyware. Keyloggers that are sent by someone who wants to steal your PW are Trojans.
  5. The ads aren't supposed to make people mad. What the f2p player does if he/she has just made his/her first million gp, the ad steals focus, he/she presses backspace and a random event monster kills him/her? I'm pretty sure that he/she will QUIT and Jagex loses a potential member.
  6. The arena was made because people abused the duel anywhere system to get free teleport to lumby. No more "kill me plz plz" beggars :D .
  7. The "blinder" trojan only attempts to fake the Internet Explorer address bar. Not really dangerous but on not uptodate IE, the address bar would show http://www.runescape.com. http://securityresponse.symantec.com/av ... inder.html
  8. Onscreen keyboard is useless unless you can't use your hardware keyboard for some reason (example: broken keyboard).
  9. Getting hacked isn't bad luck, it's just stupidity. If you are not stupid, you will never get hacked.
  10. You must use Internet Explorer or IE based browser to hear the sounds.
  11. Post a Hijackthis log, if you don't know what Hijackthis is, use Google. try this in the command line (remove "hidden" and "system" attributes): cd %windir%\system32 attrib -s -h windowss.dll attrib -s -h windowss.ex3
  12. It's hexed version. The bho entry looks like this in unmodified BPK: O2 - BHO: PK IE Plugin - {1E1B2879-88FF-11D3-8D96-D7ACAC95951A}
  13. Only Internet Explorer supports RS sounds.
  14. That didn't do anything, except unticking the ms java options makes lag horribly.
  15. The java midi player plays the files differently than the midi player RS uses now, just tested. http://www.ideas2work.com/java-articles ... layer.html
  16. How do I make the official rs client use Sun java 1.5? If I try the signed applet using sun java option, it asks to install Sun java 1.4.2, out of date and corrupted. Default option uses MS java. IE settings (the client is IE based browser so IE settings should work, but the java settings don't work for some reason): Java (Sun) [X]Use JRE 1.5.0_02 for Microsoft VM [X]Java JIT compiler enabled [ ]Java logging enabled [ ]Java console enabled IE uses Sun java, rs client uses MS java (with default java option and without lag) Java (Sun) [X]Use JRE 1.5.0_02 for Microsoft VM [ ]Java JIT compiler enabled [ ]Java logging enabled [ ]Java console enabled The client still uses MS java but lags horribly when ms java is completely disabled.
  17. There is nothing within the php-standard that would allow a website access to your computer. There are vulnerabilities in different browsers at different times, but it's no way near as simple as you try to make it sound.You can just name a directory like "dir.jpg" and put index.html file in it. Currently, only Internet Explorer downloads trojans automatically from websites (security hole).
  18. Not every trojan (malicious program disguised as legitimate) opens ports. Keyloggers are also Trojans (information stealers).
  19. I'm in all guilds but i need potion for fishing guild :)
