  1. ^ Slighlty related to the above, my friend meant to use the word 'exasperated' the other day but instead told me he was 'embezzled' by his girlfriend's lack of understanding.
  2. This is untrue. The UK legal system is far better than most. I come from Sicily and grew up there and in Rome, and let me tell you the legal system in Italy is ten thousand times worse than in the UK, owing to the almost total lack of corruption. Similarly, in the UK money does not matter as much as in the US, which is very anti-egalitarian in that sense.
  3. That drinking game is just crazy.
  4. Currently reading Confucius' Analects. They're dated and as such redundant, but nevertheless they're worth it from a historical perspective.

Today I tried to turn lead into gold. It didn't work.
  9. If that's what everyone thought about ______ issue, then nothing would get done, ever. Bad attitude to have. * that first they came for the ___, spiel and all that. Yet most people have Bows' approach to most issues; eg, I wonder how many of us here have played an active part in supporting women's emancipation in Saudi Arabia? Perhaps Bows is too busy reaching a peace accord in the Congo to care about the machinations of the US Congress (say I with tongue in cheek).
  10. Lokie and Ham, congratulations on producing a pair absolutely sterling articles this week. Both were relevant, clearly aritculated and enjoyable to read.

'Beta' as a synonym for weak? That's news to me.
  12. The Mace of Molag Bal. Ebony, 25 damage to Magicka and Stamina, steals souls on kill. I absolutely love the Mace of Molag Bal.
  13. Strangely, Lydia dying was sadder than I'd imagined. Perhaps I shouldn't have used a Shout while she was kneeling. :P

Yes, it's quite plainly cheating. React to that as you see fit, but never let her tell you it's not.
  15. Absolutely. In coffee shops in this country, I often see middle-class, middle-aged ladies sat drinking their pretentious mug of milk-[bleep]-coffee on a table with leather chairs made for four. Leading on from this... Coming from Italy, I am a bit of a coffee snob and Anglo-American coffee shops annoy me generally. The atrocities they market as 'coffee', combined with the falsity of the decor - Caffè Nero in particular, with the aforementioned leather sofas (which I never saw in a coffee shop when I lived in Rome or in my hometown) and the people wearing shirts pronouncing them 'Baristas' because they can work a coffee machine -, and the 'panninis' (which just means sandwich in Italian). Add to this the archetypal pretentious middle class clientele and the whole experience is incredibly frustrating. It tries to imitate Italy, but only on a superficial level and yet people buy into it like donkeys. Coffee and coffee culture is one of the few areas in which I consider the UK inferior to Italy. /rant

Cro-che-fee-so. I can tell who can/can't pronounce it when (if) they abbreviate it; those who know go for 'Croce', the others go for 'Croc'. Che as in proper pronounciation of Che Guevara, not 'chay'.

I thought you were going to be longboarding or something?
  24. This sort of thing happened to me when I first came to the UK and misused English, in particular phrasal verbs. The worst example that springs to mind is when a friend of mine said that his grandparent had 'passed away' and, confused, I just responded, 'I'm glad for them'. Luckily, he was intelligent enough to realise I'd misunderstood him.

I've accidentally paid people in euros before, simply because the 2 coin looks so similar to a £2 coin.
