  1. Countries in decline cannot afford to be as libertarian as they were when at their peak.

Good luck both. I could never comprehend music theory, so I am sure you'll do x100 better than me.
  3. This is very interesting. Great job.

Today I finally bought myself the tweed suit I've been wanting. :shades:
  5. I wish this was a literal depiction of my life.
  6. If the Times is subjective then we should be able to give our subjective opinion on whether something should be published or not. "That shouldn't have been published" can just as easily be in interpreted as a subjective opinion. There's no logic to that conclusion. The Times' content is wholly subjective, what it publishes is subjective only in relation to the aforementioned Editorial Policy. By making statements such as "That shouldn't have been published", you imply knowledge of this private policy. Thus "I wouldn't publish that" is, though petty, acceptable, whereas absolute statements such as "That shouldn't have been pulished" are downright wrong.
  7. Some additional things that need to be established: a) The Times has always been a subjective publication - people may wish it to be otherwise, but it's not. b) 'Appropriateness' is something that only those with some knolwedge of the Times' Editorial Policy can really claim to be fit to speak on. Anything else is just a judgement, not some sort of concrete statement of the sort that we often see thrown around these threads. (Eg: "That shouldn't have been published.")

Unnamed Poem I see them from my vantage point sprawled across an open plain. Clustered together like the homeless, the destitute, the desperate, around their fires, in their camps - The cacophony of sounds, the hazy sea of colours that make up each group Are only distinct from one another on the surface – that oh so thin veneer of translucency, Like a desert mirage, illusory, wishful, unattainable... yet they still try!

I often find flights very fun so long as I have something good to read.
  12. Jagex is a British firm, London makes the most sense.
  13. American politics is so incredibly backward.

Today was so dark it was as if the sun never rose. I just want to get this damned winter solstace done with.
  16. But it seems to me (from those few words) that the sadness you feel can be attributed to the personal connection and empathy there, rather than patriotism (ie, an emotional attachment to a political entity) or militarism.
  17. The first sentence contains an overwhelmingly arrogant and incorrect assumption: that the US was the influence for the Arab spring. The rest I have trouble believing.
  18. Patriotism always annoys me. It's not like the soldiers are conscripted or even defending us (the same happens in Britain) from anything in particular. A soldier's death is sad only in relation to those they knew.

I just forget about it generally.

  22. Seconding this - it's Jagex after all.
  23. I cannot bear those overbearingly literal sorts.
