  1. By definition.
  2. Jane Austen is widely regarded as a useless writer, and rightly so. The crimes she committed against literature surpass Melanie Phillips' crimes against journalism. I am reading The Hermitic Tradition: Symbols & Teachings of the Royal Art by Julius Evola. Most enjoyable.
  3. The latter, clearly.

So very true. Only Americans cake 5 year olds in make up and present them as pseudo-objects of desire.
  5. Yay. More rewards from the members' lazy scheme.

I am going to pretend I know what all these American terms mean.
  7. 63 words per minute with 100% accuracy. Meh.
  8. Many of the issues people are having with 'there's no substance to English' is, I might add, a sort of semi-valid prejudice. The problem lies in the sorts of texts covered in early stages of development, which are simple by necessity and thus finding meaning is dull and really rather pointless, for there is only a little superficial 'meaning' to such books. Many people are put off by this, as many would be, and form a generalised prejudice against the idea that a work of fiction can have meaning.
  9. The English bashing that's going on here suggests to me that the users of this forum are primarily of the Maths/Science mentality. People seem to be forgetting that, though many works of literature are shallow, there are an enormous array of works that are deeper and, if viewed properly far more pleasurable, than any amount of programming. The real value of English in terms of education, however, is to teach people to develop the invaluable faculty of critical thinking. The extent to which someone has this ability comes across especially when they comment on the Tip.It Times - the more literal and less critically aware people often misinterpret articles - and by extension someone's critical thinking ability is crucial to their wider interaction and interpretation of all around them.
  10. Because I am making myself wait for Skyrim, I am playing Fable II, which I was given some three years ago and never opened. A poor substitute admittedly, but it's all I've got.
  11. Halo 4 looks terrible. Then again, never been much of a fan of the series.

I never understand how people can read something and suddenly become depressed. If this is the case, I suggest an urgent cessation of reading-related activities and forum use, lest you are ambushed by depressing material.
  13. One must always remember how vital F2P is to Jagex's marketing machine.

I too agree with your view of clubs, frankly. I am not a pessimistic sort, and I certainly don't have any of your anxieties (which I would recommend seeing a psychiatriast for), but I still find clubs to be little more than hotbeds of falsity, vanity and futility. I wouldn't be too upset about that, you're probably just growing out of clubs. (By the way, this is really more of a response to fastortoise, in case anyone got confused).

I get the sense that generalising half of humanity over 3 women is a less than reasonable idea.
  16. Is Gabe indoctrinating us again? :shades:

    ??? MW2 came out in 2009.
  18. If Jagex went the Zynga way? There's be uproar.
  19. Perhaps some of the questions could've been a little broader? In the 'what sort of character' question and the 'gameplay v graphics' one, my real answer wasn't available.
  20. Thanks to everyone who took the time to respond to my article. It was especially nice to see people picking out all the flaws in what was, frankly, more of a nostalgic reverie than a real suggestion - the implausibility of rewriting the code and lack of feasibility in particular. The very unique list that break the phases of RS down even further was also interesting, though I can't say I agree.
  21. Silly ideas presented in an even more childish manner than usual. Oh, the follies of Jagex, how they make me laugh.
  22. Thanks very much for your feedback, Sorator, it was most helpful. It's true that, given the resources Jagex is currently expending on bot nuking, legal action and so on, I'm not sure they'd be able to maintain it (I worked on the presumption that Jagex would backdate code, out of sheer optimism). Out of interest, in what way do you expect people would get angry if the proposal were to become a reality? I'm sure there's a valid logic to it (RS players being the volatile creatures that they are), but I can't see one. As for the Construction question, see this article and then the associated discussion.
  23. These never change anything.
