  1. This was a pretty good answer, lol. Clever response to deal with that lore issue...cause they totally were thinking of that when the update actually happened. Unless of course we take the angle that in lore terms ascension gear is something only the adventurer and a few slayer masters know about and even at that we only know it to be some sort of magic crystal thing, so there is limited reason for us to assume it'd be remotely similar to an substance from the eastern lands we've never seen and know nothing about. I mean that's like saying well you didn't know wtf the material in the scroll was so you tried bread and it seemed to work so thats what you ran with. Plus of course to get to make the darts we don't even need the slayer req for ascension dung, which in lore terms would negate any reason for us to have been there and thus have even a vague knowledge of such a material existing. Then it's less clever than a blindly fumbled excuse for an illogical design choice that really messed with the lore of it all.
  2. Yeah the staying at dtooth thing being 'better' is an utter myth perpetuated by people who want to afk lazily so can't manage to click on a wisp slightly further away reliable coupled with people who think it 'costs too much' because of the desert heat because they insist on using healing familars or food or wtaer skins or w/e to survive rather than just getting the water tiara and being able to ignore heat altogether for a few hundred k. The desert spot is better xp:hr easily as long as you are willing to even half pay attention.
  3. Mod Timbo is the balancing guy basically he seems to work on pretty much every update to do the balancing for drop tables, xp rates, costs etc. Hence why he always answers the balancing questions in FAQs and they always tout him making sure things are balanced in such QAs. There could be others doing it, but as far as their PR goes Timbo seems to be on everything.
  4. The strange thing is, in the Q&A they basically said the idea of ductaping things together to make the t90 2handers was scrapped too. Oh thank god for that, best news of the year so far.
  5. Err wasn't the city shrunk for safety and nothing to do with the Edicts? Jagex suggested at RuneFest that Seren's heart may well be in the city so they could easily tie all that together, especially since she's supposedly involved in WE4. They could tie it together but it does not alter the fact the edicts having nothing to do with the city being reverted to seed. When the edicts came Seren opted to shatter herself in to crystals to be with her people leaving only her heart whole within the crystal city. In the time between the edicts falling and now the Iorweth clan (and maybe others given the way things sound like they are going) turned traitor to the other elf clans; part of which included locking Baxtorian and Glarial and their kingdom out of Isafdar. The elders of the city reverted it to seed in a last ditch empty to save the elves as a whole from the traitors by ensuring none of them could have the power. Thus we land at status quo of the current playing field: Iorweth clan camped near the city refusing anyone entry while shipping their mourners out the west ardougne under the guise of plague in order to invade the Temple of Light and reach the under city where the seeds/elders sealed themselves away. Whilst the good rebel elvers of lleyta show us the truth of our actions after we seemingly kill Tyras so we can see how bad Lathas is and begin to work against the Iorweth clan. About the only thing the edicts could influence upon is Seren begining to regain consciousness with the edicts lifted, something that is mildly hinted too by the recent emerging of crystal trees in the shape of a seren symbol. But since she is still rather shattered it'd be hard to see how she'd have a hand in rebuilding the city - though I could see the rebuilding of the city leading to the rebuilding of Seren.
  6. Ooooo Eemmmm Geeee That is going to fail hard >.> Why do they still try and use mod timbo as a source for credibility and good work? His historic work has resulted in numerous horrible drop tables and stupid xp rates that have had to be tweaked. I feel kinda bad for saying it but as jmods go he is just awful at his job and should be moved elsewhere; half the issues we have with content is they are not balanced well and do not compete at all in the metagame, which given its now 2014 and metagaming rules the roost cause everyone and their mum can google guides and likes the idea of doing at least close to the best. Balancing things based on being more 'fun' alternatives does not justify an appalling xp rate; heck even today on twitter Timbo was surprised when ores logs alchables etc did not come up is his poll of 'favourite non-unique monster drops'. Of course they didn't! They are next to worthless junk because everything drops them and usually they end up with quite big stacks of them after your shody balancing of drop tables gets fixed to make them actually valuable. Of course there could be other factors at play but they always make a big deal of Timbo balancing stuff and being the balancing guy and time after time we have major issues with things being ruined through bad xp rates, crud drops or excessive costs - things which balancing is directly responsible for mostly.
  7. That screen is lols Bit earlier we had 41% vs 58% it seems as if Jagex perpetual need for rounding down is making some numbers beyond 0.5 round down still creating a missing 1%
  8. Check the elf city FAQ and the update teasers thread we kinda already covered that quite well a few hours ago.
  9. When I read the groups I kinda felt like it was rigged to ensure high levels made demons win. Beasts - Dark beasts - ok drops, not awesome but decent enough. Basilisks, turoth, kurasks low level don't care. Elementals - Waterfiends - already awesome charms and xp, does it really need more? Aquanites - annoying and entirely avoidable. pyrefiends, dust devils low level don't care. Ghosts - Abberant spectres - already plenty of good herb drops. ankous, ghasts low level don't care. GWD spiritual creatures kinda mediocre not too fussed either way. Meanwhile: Demons - Abyssals - high end slayer and total garbage cause whip tanked, YES PLEASE. greaters, lessers and imps low level don't care.
  10. And the gaping flaw in the poll system exposes itself almost immediately, to quote a clan mate on the minigame poll: "I voted wildy cause it needs some activity, it's been dead since rs3" Jagex clearly did not plan for peoples inability to read and full comprehend the meaning of a question before blindly voting for reasons that don't make sense.
  11. Halfway through their attempt to take over the whole of Prifddinas, the Iorwerth clan realises that their attempts are in vain as some idiot has sealed the Death Altar from them and all their mourners keep getting killed. Iorwerth goes insane and gives up on his plan to bring back the Dark Lord, and has half of the city reconstructed into an image of the old Prifddinas, retiring to the city to rule over his clan. You then enter his faux city and kill him and his overpowered bodyguard, after which the rogue elves show up and pull down a statue of him. Also in the throws of his abandonning his plan about 8 plot strands are completely dropped with no explaination at all. In this case I'm guessing how Lathas came to be allied with them, who their dark lord is, what exactly their ritual was going to be and the ambiguity over whether we really killed Tyras since we never actually saw him. Maybe if we're lucky they'll want to tie something up neatly and a gnome envoy can appear to give a speech on why they were shopping with the chaos dwarves for no apparent reason.
  12. I'm not thrilled about it but at least they're recognizing it. With some previous comments I thought they might just ignore it or handwave it away. I think what bugs me most about it is they could release 1/8th of the city without having to 'make up' anything. As the lore stands the Iorweth clan went against the other 7 so it'd be perfectly plausible for as early as underground pass us to be able to access the Iorweth 1/8th of the city. Whilst having the other 7 await our victory in the grand master quest to come out and restore their parts of the city. It sounds as if their explanation is going to be making 3 other clans a bit combatant and thus having them support Iorweth lot, which is at least a reasonable compromise. What I don't entirely follow is why Within the Light is going to be the quest to let us in to the first half, to me it'd make more sense for underground pass to let us in - as the gates are just open OR regicide when we make 'friends' with the Iorweth guys as they let us in. Why randomly let us in half way through our infiltration attempt?
  13. Sounds positive other than I dislike the fact they are going to make up a story reason for half the city to be back post-within the light without an actual quest and then have the quest post-launch restore the other half of the city.
  14. So the FAQ came out and a lot of it is just made to be rage inducing in many ways Oh so if they aren't deemed worthwhile you'll look at changing it...is like all the fansites and the rsof hitting on the same issue of barely to not worthwhile due to overly high costs not sign enough to begin with? I mean sure I get the logic of the upfront cost thing, but they still are excessively expensive; imo 2-5 shards per dart would be perfectly fine since they dont even get picked up by ava so there is high potential to easily lose a lot of em. Not to mention the 'we'll monitor it it and see' stock answer generally leads to 'we'll do jack shit about it and then act all surprised people are unhappy when it is raised in a QA a year or two later' Oh so you did fix 'many' issues...how about telling us wtf some of them are? The fact this question was even an issue clearly shows we can't see any of these fixes so maybe being told wtf has been fixed would be nice. Equally doesn't really address the fact of why none of the other things were fixed eg the inbalance in ship part we were told in like 2012 they would look at. Or the very simple task of moving where an assassin stands so she's not in a dam barrel. Because we all love nice sarcastic answers that don't really answer anything. Because we also love obscure latin phrases for answers rather than a straight forward answer. Was it really unavoidable? The explanation given earlier was because you alphabetised the list. It strikes me it could've been avoided in 3 ways - don't alphabetise the list OR make a pre-launch tweak so the ship names are re-stored using identifiers opposed to 'number x of the list' OR make the alphabetised list a little messy by hardcoding list numerics so the old names retained their old numbers despite moving. Plus you did a great job on not actually explaining WHY they changed like the question asked - it's not even a tricky answer since it was already given out elsewhere. At least in all this Osbourne gives us a glimmer of hope in a good answer
  15. With this spoiler in mind I revise my theory on the trio plots course:
  16. I'd agree with the above but in terms of pure exercise for fat loss without using the arms the best best are probably running and hiit. Hiit being where you do intervals at ~70% of effort with a short break between them, most sites seem to recommend 30 seconds work to 10 seconds rest, but you may need to start off with more rest. You can kinda thrown what you like in to a hiit routine like doing high-knee running on the spot, speed-skater jump things, squats, crunches, push ups, burpees, star jumps w/e you like really as long as it gets you moving. Ideally a hiit routine is around 9-20 minutes long. But it really depends what your end goals are you've mentioned weight loss and 'getting fit' but they kinda cover many things. Getting fit general means losing fat, gaining muscle and improving stamina (and possibly flexibility) - gaining muscle would be tricky with arm limitations, but fat loss through cardio and pushing stamina through cardio is doable (hiit is good for pushing vo2 max and thus stamina). Weight loss on the other hand is a problematic term: To get healthier doesn't necessarily mean you just want to lose weight. It's about fat vs muscle; for many people burning fat and putting on muscle can actually increase their weight to begin with but that's not a bad thing esepcially when you consider by measures such as BMI people who don't fit the 'average' body type can easily hit obsese ranking but actually be extremely fit and healthier than some 'average' with perfect bmi. And of course above all else getting your eating right as a basis is important.
  17. I've been thinking lately I wonder where the new trio story will go. The best I can fathom thus far is: To trap the elusive creature the hunter is seeking they need the Archetects skills to construct a special trap and one of the cooks more dangerous dishes as bait and as poison. The creature will then yield first and foremost the species discovery the hunter seeks, but he will realise creatures need protecting and not to make them extinct. The cook will find his perfect flavour/dish and repent his dangerous dish amking ways. The Architect will find some way to save her people from the earthquakes, given the overall theming I'd assume maybe something to do with living in harmony with nature rather than building.
  18. I'd agree with the sentiment pures are next to worthless in eoc with people using all three styles having a significant advantage right through until you hit the lvl 80 weapons where you can get by as 1 style, or lvl 90 where you can do what the heck you want. If you do want to make a pure ignoring defence is a bad idea, in eoc defence matters much more than it did before eoc. With armour accounting for around half your health and a massive amount of defence you need those levels to get any sort of decent gear.
  19. I could see crystal singing being used to make some gear in the 70-80 region like as alternatives to chaotics and/or some options outside of barrows weps in the 70s. I could also see it being used to augment skilling more than combat (since Seren pacifist etc) like crystal pickaxe and hatchet and maybe other crystal tools to go along with the saw like a knife and a pestle and mortar and a hammer and a needle and farming tools etc. that offer some boon to their respective skills be it as simple as new best for mine/wc tools or small xp boosts or other effects like disease protection. I think halberd has got to be included, not out of being useful but out of sheer overdueness. I also wonder if being able to crystal sing ourselves will allow us to escape journeys to bowls/paying for shield, bow, saw, chimes and teleport. It'll also be interesting to see how it plays out in relation to using seeds to grow crystal items; they could make a nice new special farming item in the higher end I think. Also could include interesting mechanics to do with learning songs - as in how recharge gets cheaper as she becomes attuned to you there's a small internal tier/power curve within crystal equipment allowing you to produce better gear with more practice. As in say like at first you make a lvl 70 x then after y times you can make a lvl 71 x and so on through to 75 or 80 ish. But I don't wanna get my hopes up too much, after all this is Jagex.
  20. A new mid to high level city That includes the ability to crystal sing for ourselves and thus a bunch of new crystal equipment, possibly including some new bests (lvl 70 axe and pick maybe?) It also includes new training spots with new ways to train. New combat training locations. A quest prior to launch Just because you have a personal preference there is no need to outright ignore half of what we have been promised with the other option. Not to mention half your points are invalid. A skill can just as easily be dead content as an area, something like firemaking that gets minimal use and is only trained for the sake of levels is a perfect example of a dead content skill. You cannot say either update will or will not be dead content, you are not psychic and cannot foresee how they will go. Since they are competing for the same dev budget odds are they would receive similar dev teams so it is totally bogus to claim one will likely be done badly and the other won't and by the same measure the skill is just as likely to suffer from the same underwhelming rewards and below average xp as the city. Equally if the city sucks it also has the chance to improve later, more so than a skill areas can have new content and quests plugged in easily. If your gonna make a case for it at least make real points and not just fling arguments that can just as easily apply to both options on the one you dislike whilst singing the praises of the one you do.
  21. I believe the image only used one of the Drygores so I think it could make sense. It was horrifically ugly. but I think it could work. It would mean the 2h option would be more than one of the drygore main-hand items (assuming it is the main-hand which is needed) but not be more than both of the main-hand and off-hand together. No it could not work. Issue 1 is the lvl 90 2h need to plug the gap between lvl 80 gear users and those with cash to get lvl 90 gear (especially for seismics and ascensions) Issue 2 is no matter what way you spin it dual wield is better dps than 2h so it makes no sense to spend the money of a perfectly good dual wield item (even if you use it with a lesser oh for a time) only to make it into something worse. Also the main image showing it is a staff with virtus and seismic wands stuck to the top (and a couple of others too)
  22. I really hope by the time Invention reaches us that silly concept art thing of lvl 90 2h weps made from assorted dw weps including lvl 90 ones is dead and buried. In a game where dw > 2h the most downright stupid thing they could do is make 2h lvl 90s be made from dw lvl 90s with extras. Especially when we kinda need the 2h 90s to be a cheaper alternative for those of us not blessed with billions to drop on gear. The reverse could've worked (2h in to dw) as you actually gain something there, but taking gear and making it into worse gear is just pointless.
  23. Having watched the latest bts I have to say dang Elf City has a massive edge in my book. Invention a new skill! Elf City - an actual new massive city with new training areas and methods for skillers and killers, new quest(s), new sub-skill or sorts (crystal singing) AND further polls throughout dev to help shape it.
  24. There is no reason to switch any crew before getting to a new region- you wouldn't be able to train any of them to be worth it. In general, it is highly unlikely(or almost impossible) that oxheads will now be useful post pincers(as we have already seen loop crew be 1500 per). A tip to anyone in the same boat as most of us(gathering distance): success doesn't matter. You are better off doing a 700 steel mission at 0% than 140 steel mission at 100%. Though of course running a voyage at a worse percentage comes at a higher risk of death and killing off level 10 crew at such a late stage will only hinder your success ratings now and in the early stages of the next region; thereby slowing down your acquiring of the new resources and improving the ship and crew Crew can't die if you have 4 life-boats, which most people do. As far as I was aware you get 1 lifeboat per ship and each lifeboat can only save 1 crew per voyage meaning if you fall really badly and have 2+ deaths some of them actually die.
  25. Personally I don't see why people are getting so mad at the pvp in this event. Is the balance a little off? Perhaps. But at the end of the day this is only a temporary event and the buff/nerf effect is only in place because the event quite forcefully puts all levels in the same small locales and they need to give lower level folks a fighting chance to achieve something in the world event pvp instead of it being ruled by the lvl 90 gear folks forcing lower levels to use no pvp and cap slower etc.
