As much as I think an elf spell book would be a nice addition and could have some cool possibilities, yeah could not be further from what they said. Would make for interesting combat magic too if they did ever decide to make it. I'd be thinking like Song/Forest/Crystal/Light maybe as the elements. Mechanics wise it could kinda be the defensive spellbook in the way ancients are offensive like maybe song would boost your max lp, forest could give a passive healing over time as long as you stay in one spot (eg you are rooted like a tree), crystal could offer extra defence or deflection of some sort and light could maybe be like abyssal demon-esque telejump that move you but evade an incoming attack. Of course this, much like Shields, would benefit greatly from more reasons to be defensive in the end-game regions but I could see these having some usage that could fit in with current tank/voker roles. I could also seem elf magic, if it existed, taking Lunar's helping style a whole new range: Instead of using it to perform day-to-day tasks it is used to infuse nature to be better. Like maybe there could be enchantments/spells for herbs/potions and fish and ores and trees and farming produce that make the products better or allow for faster/better training via being 'at one' with nature. Disclaimer: They DID NOT say there would be an elven spellbook and this is pure spitballing day dream ideas of what could be if there was one. Elf Shattered heart - they already mentioned the idea of rebuilding Seren....inb4 elf shattered heart is a long winded rebuilding of Seren herself and someday is a pre-req to a quest.

which dung shield to get?
Ideally none of them. If you wanna be voke/tank you should be using spirit shields. That aside it depends entirely on what attack style you intend to use as with chaotics, spirit shields (and t90 shields) they are identical other than their class.

Display Name: Holding Duration?
This is about as accurate an answer as you'll get. There are some nuances like your original account name (if you pre-date email log on) is held for a much longer time frame. Certain famous account names are perma-saved (eg Zezima) And the top ranks of hiscores (I wanna say top 1k but I'm not sure) also get perma saved.

7-Jan-2014 - Player-Owned Ports - The Next Journey
From what I've seen so far it seems to me like optimum crew at this stage would be roughly. 5m/5c/5s/4merch/4jod With either 1 wisp 1 ox or 2 wisp filling the last slots.

Combat Improvements / Beta
Unfortunately we are not psychic. One would assume after the polls are done they will take a few days to a week to evaluate the responses given how close the results are and the fact there is some overlap between them. If they do decide to simply go with biggest numeric wins I'd say after that they could be in live within a week or 2 so I'd place my bets on last week of feb or early march.

Legacy Mode
I think EoC's issues stem from 3 facts: 1) The way they flailed around like fish outta water in the first few months after release making reactionary changes that did not really make sense within the system they had built (eg power armour and tank armour) and their continued insistence of breaking their own system (all tiers are balanced to be equal so lets split the t90 weapons up in a way that one lot is pretty easy to get, one lot is theoretically easy it just takes several months of grinding keys to kill 1 boss at a time and one thats off a super deluxe strongest monster ever because thath'll make them nice and equal in standing) 2) The fact the system was meant to promote diversity in gear choices but monsters and nuances weren't built in to make it useful eg nothing strong enough to warrant shields, no real specific differences between 2h and dw making it simply a case of 'which is best dps', weaknesses (particularly in the high end) being underplayed - we should not have a point where our gear is so good it surpasses weakness mechanics on the top end monsters. 3) They did too much too fast - Trying to test it all as an entire new system and spot all that is wrong with it and garner all player feedback was just too much. Sure to evolve combat they had to make some big changes but they could've split those changes down into lots of smaller ones and make sure each one was really superbly done and that players had a chance to adapt to the smaller change and then they get another smaller change. Like they could have road-mapped with like 3-6 months between each for bugfixing/iron out kinks once live and maybe even beta-testing of each before launch: Update 1) Rebalance all weapons within a tier to give comparable DPS and introduce off-hand weaponry. Update 2) Introduce monster weaknesses across the board and update melee weapons to the 1 attack type model. Update 3) Introduce the idea of higher hp, some of which comes from armour and crit stat/mechanics Update 4) Bring in the actionbar for food and prayers and potions And so on and so forth. Woulda given them a buttload more time to focus in on the minute details of each change and get it done right instead of having a wall of chaos and trying to tidy it up. Plus it'd of given even the most stubborn of players much more time to adapt and learn the new system without feeling entirely alienated. Also think theres more they coulda done in the low end to make it a smoother learning curve like: Adrenaline and abilities (eg perma momentum) are not unlocked at all until you hit say lvl 10 in the combat stats. Abilities (kinda works atm) then unlock basics then thres then ults and each time you unlock one for the first time you get like a mini tutorial on tht segment on things (kinda like the pathfinder thingy they have atm, just to avoid overwhelming people with information) and maybe have an academy thing with 'trials' or w/e that are optional but teach you about more indepth details (like dot, area etc) Make the weaknesses thing a bit more generous in the bottom end - eg very bottom monsters just have melee/range/magic and its not strongly enforced, then next tier up it is strongly enforced, then next tier up start to divide into stab slash crush fire water air earth bolt thrown arrow. Would give newbies a chance to get to grips with things bit by bit instead of landing and it being like you need lvl x magic, a bow, a crossbow, a thrown wep, a sword, a mace and an axe right now to be any good at all! Objectively it certainly met the goal set of allowing combat to do new things to expand the limits at the top, but that objectivity has to glaze over a whole mess of issues.

Logic would suggest that despite not yet making an experience elephants very much existing in Gielinor and have been mentioned prior to Soloman's store several times. Archeron is known to have mammoths from the elephant-family. Shamus from the Lost City quest calls you a 'big elephant' several times indicating knowledge of them. Something further repeated in a postbag from the hedge response from a Leprechaun The Bowl region has a voyage called 'The Thunderous Mountain Elephant' specifically mentions one being spotted that you could go fight for fame and glory. Cross that with the fact Gielinorian 'normal' wildlife seems very much in tune with Earth (dogs, cats, ravens, crows, spiders, pigs, cows, sheep, goats, camels, wolves etc.) and it does rather seem like elephants are a Gielinorian fact pre-dating Soloman having a store shaped like one. Plus with the exotic eastern lands link and Soloman's lavish, show-offy personality (implied by the wording of the newsposts he 'wrote') it'd make sense for him to pick something a bit obscure and rare that the average Gielinorian has not seen before. This statement is pure nonsense I am afraid. Whilst visually yes it may be at the 'front door' of the Grand Exchange it is highly relevant that this access point is largely un-used. It does not make for 'maximum game exposure' to place it there because the vast majority of players simply do not go through that area. If it was placed for maximum exposure it would've been stuck in the middle of edgeville or right by the underwall tunnel. If you pin part of your argument on it being 'shoe-horned' in on the basis of it being placed for 'maximum exposure' it is, I am afraid, extremely relevant where the foot traffic of players going to the GE actually is and in this case they are in all the wrong places to support the hypothesis it has been 'shoe-horned' in to a place for maximum exposure as it has been placed in an area that is very rarely traversed by the average player.

Seriousy? At least the genie plays up to a larger portion of the game environment.Yes, but not one with breasts. That's what the community wants, it seems...The majority of the community is simple minded and prepubescent. Most of them have issues just trying to simply appreciate game lore, let alone the concept of "fantasy." IMO Solomon is even worse, being shoehorned into the game with a large display right next to the trading center that EVERYONE has to go to. Yeah it's totally shoe horned in because a trader seeking to sell his ware would in no way shape or form logically want to be near the main market hub of the entire world of Gielinor. Plus half the reason it even exists in-game is because players repeatedly asked for it to have an in-game presence so that it felt more connected to the game and less a tagged on microtransactions'r'us unit. Besides not EVERYONE has to go to the ge, many diyers have probably never been and the vast majority don't go past that side of the GE anyway. Glory ammys and edgeville lodestone + agility shortcut lead right in to the northern end, spirit tree lands ya up there too. Heck even if you use redirected varrock tabs you land past it enough to run in to ge without really looking.

Drygores
Tbh other than longs for overrides ans maces for prayer I don't think it really matters at all which drygores you use. T80 weapons are strong enough that you can ignore the smaller nuances of weakness and just go for melee, range or mage accordingly for max DPS By the time you hit T90 it really does not matter at all. The only monsters remotely strong enough for it to matter are the true top end bosses and they are all 'no weakness' anyway so it makes no difference.

Definitely looks like a delay. Especially with the suggestion that he is *now* just getting to it. Probably late March (translation: April). I wouldn't say that looks like a delay at all. Lots of feedback from Osbourne for dialogue on a quest simply means tidying up story and lore elements and fixing dialogue is not exactly a mammoth task - it is simply a case of typing it and maybe dropping in an extra menu option or two. Equally scripting rewards is unlikely to be too big of a task - area unlocks, xp etc are all gonna be simple code elements that already exist. The only thing that could eat some item would be creating a new item. The real test is if there is lots broken when it hits QA in a week or two.

greater runic staff
It'll swap after 1 cast. Casting a spell using runes inside the staff is just the same as casting with runes in you inventory or a combo of runes and elemental staves. 1 cast is 1 cast.

Worth spending ALL of my money for 92 prayer?
From what Mod Balance said prayer does get double xp however, as always, altar and ecto don't function meaning you get 2* burying xp aka 1.5* less than gilded and 2* less than ecto. Plus of course bonus xp doesn't apply either meaning at the very best you can only get 2* burying xp making bonus xp weekend the worst time to do prayer.

7-Jan-2014 - Player-Owned Ports - The Next Journey
I had a choice of scroll or trio 2 today. Given I'm like 9% from Loop I thought I'd best go scroll even though I wanna clear trio since it can't get harder but scrolls can lol.

By the fact two options mention the quest I some how think he's getting a staring role in a quest no matter what and the poll just shapes how he finishes the quest. This makes me a little sad, but if a quest he must have to die then let it be!

Polls General Discussion
I dunno I fell the poll debates fit rather nicely in with update teaser discussion, considering they are polling future content and are thus a teaser for something to come. Especially as 'I voted x' is by no means a discussion, or a discussion opener rendering this thread rather spam-ish.

I have to say, assuming they pan out well, Dragonriders, Zaros return and Armadyl origins aren't bad to get 2014 quests going. I mean I know arma origins was last talked of as being may iirc, but eh still first half.

04-Feb-2014 Treasure Hunter & Demon Drop Table Improvements
Something I noted with treasure hunter: It seems as if all prismatic stars are in the hunter category, I got 3 of them and all claimed to thus. So if your not careful you could easily bone yerself on a bunch of bonus xp.

Odds are they are the only 'official' skill reqs, but of course there'll be a list hitting most skills if you actually workout the skill reqs by proxy of other quests reqed.

Behind the Scenes - February 2014
Quite excited for this month all told.

Legacy Mode
Revolution still relies on the action bar. It uses basic abilities from the first 9 slots of the ability bar in order 1-9, skipping any if they are not off cooldown yet. So you still have to have your basics on there, you just have to make sure any you don't want revolution to use (eg freedom) are in 10-12

Legacy Mode
Wait from what I read we will have three abilities: momentum, momentum plus and revolution. So are we getting momentum plus to replace momentum? I know about revolution. Either way I'm excited about a less intense medium for combat. I'm kind of worried ability queue might have an overseen fault that you can queue a threashold/ultimate before it hits its adrenaline level or cooldown. I have yet to test if the queue system works under these conditions. No there's only two: Revolution Momentum Momentum Plus is just a dev name to differentiate momentum as it is live now from momentum as it is in the beta. Kinda like how Rs2 and RsHD were never launched as the games actual title, they were just dev names that differentiated the 3d rs from the 2d rs and the big graphical improved rs from the prior one.

Legacy Mode
^ The one that fires off abilities for you is revolution 'momentum+' is just the dev name for the currently-beta tweaks they have made to momentum that allow you to use specials and ults and gain adr whilst on momentum.

Oh. GOOD LUCK with that. These morons can't even balance 3 simple attack styles working on a copy-paste system. What are the odds that they can balance 6? Yeah. 0. People will use whatever is best and this is a huge waste of development time. Giving people what they want is STUPID. No democratic government has ever survived doing that. You have to give people what they NEED. Especially when every darn thing we have been told about legacy mode is basically a marginally upgraded to be even less eoc and even more pre-eoc function momentum. Seriously just make more tweaks to momentum and let that be 'legacy mode' whilst the rest of us use revolution for the lazy semi-abilities semi-afk functions momentum served. Heck even make momentum enforced in pvp areas to try and rekindle that market and stop eoc-ers 'ruining' it for the nostalgia kids if it'll make the whiners happy for a while.

Why would they make staves 1h again? and wedge in 'shield staves' Granted dw>2h but still 2h should exist and there is no need for staves to be made 1h again, if theres an issue with 1h deal with it being over-priced (virtus and seismic) not just break other puts of the system. Also shield staves? wtf. That makes no sense they are a 2h wep they aren't supposed to be usable with a shield. The only reason 'shield bows' exist is because it is physically impossible to have a 1h bow so they are acting as a pre-built 1h+shield whilst normal bows stand in for both 2h and dw. 1h staves would've made sense opposed to wands (for some tiers atleast) when it first launched (akin to crossbows setup) but putting them in now when we already have a solid system of wands in place seems derpy; especially when 1-70 in wands is pretty cheap. I could see a case for adding in elemental wand counterparts to the staves in terms of equality/balance, but 1h staves just seem needless at this stage
