i've not read all of the previous comments, but i'd just like to add that i found this game originally as something to do when i was at work on my lunch break - back then it was RSC. I didn't particularly love it, but it was nice and simple. I'm now 28 and i probably play more than i used to in the last few years, but only because the game chills me out and even for all of the updates, it's still a nice easy game to get on with. Nothing is complicated and it's easy to just log in, play for an hour, then log off again. My wife even plays every now and then, as it's something we can do together. Long live Runescape :)

Well there isn't a "flooded" set of floors yet, so potentially that could be a new set of floors, or alternatively i guess it could go into the frozen section, if it was a combination on water/ice. The lore is still being added to all of the time, so i don't really see this being an issue. As for levels, this would be the same as most current bosses - it'd depend on the level of the boss. Dan

I had an idea the other day for a new Daemonheim boss, so thought Id make a post and see what people thought before I posted it on the official forums. Its basically some kind of water-based leviathan, with a walkway around the edge (like Shadow-forger Ihlakhizan). Ive added a link to a quick picture I created in paint to just illustrate what I mean - Attacks: Tentacle Whip a flail-style attack that causes melee damage. Anyone can be hit by this attack, but obviously the fewer tentacles there are, the lower the chance of being hit. However, the damage received increases with every tentacle lost. The tentacles will flail for a few seconds (defend only) then drop to the floor for a few seconds, enabling players to attack, cause damage and eventually cut off the tentacle (hatchet needed maybe, like the pickaxe is needed for the bulwark beast?) Ink Shot a dual magic and range attack that damages and also temporarily lowers defence (as preparation for special). Damage increases with every tentacle that is cut off. Giant Wave (Special Attack) the leviathan uses its tentacles to splash itself in the water and create a giant wave that covers the entire boss area, damaging and stunning players for a few seconds. This attack cannot be avoided, but this can be reduced significantly by cutting off the tentacles. The cutting off of tentacles doesnt need to be done to kill the monster, but could reduce the damage taken. The body itself can only be killed by mage/range (melee unable to reach). Other Info: Special Drops: Maybe a tentacle as a wieldable whip-style weapon? Suggested text: I wonder how that got in here? (Examine Info) Chopping off the tentacle has increased the Leviathans rage (cutting off a tentacle) The Leviathan splashes around, creating a giant wave (special attack warning at least one tentacle) The Leviathan splashes around, but to no avail (special attack warning no tentacles) "This tentacle looks like it could be cut off" (ready to be cut off with a hatchet?) Anyway, thanks for reading :) Dan

Addition to Pyramid Plunder Guide
dan2012 replied to mypapillons's topic in Completed Website Corrections
just a thought as i'm training thieving at the moment (i got 98 last night): it may seem a bit obvious, but summoning familiars can be used in the pyramid, so you could maybe include a section on what familiars would be best to use / most effective (i.e. terrorbird/bunyip/yak for energy/health/inventory, etc.) i personally find that a bunyip totally replaces the need for food (although i am 116cb) and i can do around 8 runs per bunyip. I generally only need to restore ~20hp when i bank at CW to restock on anti poisons (i carry 3x 4-dose) and empty my inventory of gold items (scarabs and statuettes), which can mean ~125k xp per bunyip. -
well thanks for the replies all, i'll bear them in mind when i start training :)

oops, thought i had posted it in the help and advice! mods - pls move? thx.

I finally completed As A First Resort yesterday, in preparation for my next goal of 99 agility (after i get 99 thieving) and just wondered if anyone knew the ratio for how long unlimited run energy lasts? All of the guides say "dependent on your agility level", but as i'll be training agility, that will be increasing all the time. I did it temporarily yesterday while thieving, but forgot to actually keep a track of my agility - i noticed it was decreasing after 4 runs of pyramid plunder, which is 20 minutes, but i'm not sure at what point it started decreasing (i'm 81 agility). thanks

what is the difference between these though? the tests for the knowledge book are not that different from the "greatest quiz in runescape" random, other than you get some (possibly good) xp from it, rather than an old boot hidden inside a gift-wrapped box. it basically comes down to reward. you would be less likely to be critical about a random if the rewards were better, which is why EVERYONE likes the genie and classroom randoms. EDIT: reiterates the above.
-
re: randoms personally i think more randoms should be rewarded with xp, just like the lamps or knowledge books. we should be rewarded for having collected all costume items from the mime (for example), as that is an achievement in itself, by receiving some kind of item that gives a small amount of xp. lamps give 10xlevel, books give 15xlevel, so why not 5xlevel? it might not be much, but if you think about how many costumes you can get, the chances of getting one of these items (i.e. a costume token or something) increases with the more full sets you have. i personally have all of the costumes and get very sick of having the same randoms. i don't mind Evil Bob, i either get a few good noted herbs or small amount of fish xp for free, even molly (as annoying as she is) gives noted gems, but i agree with curmudgeon - why would we want 20gp? i'd much rather 100xp in any skill i choose.

"N00b skillcapes" : they're also skillcapes!
dan2012 replied to Demoli's topic in General Discussion
*cough* please don't pity me. they may not be my favourite skills, but i enjoyed them, especially firemaking. i have three skill capes - so what if they are the three above that you think are worthless, it still took me a long time to get them. i don't no life, i have a job that takes up 10 hours a day, so i get a few hours a night to play online. i can't get 99 in a week. it used to annoy me that people would laugh and take the p*ss, but now i am past caring. i am in a skilling clan where i hold my own around 30th of 70-odd in terms of overall levels and i am pleased to have a 70+ account with an overall of 1900+ with a combat level of only 115. people ought to stop criticising others skills and concentrate on their own - if anyone reading this has 99 fletching and it's their only skill cape, then well done to you, it's still an achievement. so i'm an idiot as well for not wanting to do combat? i have been playing for over 4 years and yet i have never been to GWD since it came into being and i don't really intend to. i don't like combat that much, i would rather skill tedious levels and calculate how much exp or how many runs i need to level. does that make me stupid too? -
Weekly Poll: How well do you know Tip.It Staff?

would "none" go under "other" ? -
nice article pinky! : it looks as though this could benefit the SnC... :D

i like to read all the lores and histories that come out ("The Fall of Six" is my fave) and especially enjoy the depth in which some of the quests go to not just tell you the story of the quest, but background into the story of the whole of runescape. I must admit, i did think this might be a good read (if it's anything like the lores), but i too cringed at the sight of the price - £13.99 for a novel based around a game i pay £3.20 a month to play. if i was younger and not working, that'd be a choice of a book based loosely on Runescape, or 4 months of actually playing the game itself (and that's not including delivery prices, i never got that far). It is a good idea, but not something i'll partake in. After all, you can get "Making Money" by Terry Pratchett for £5.00 and you can guarantee that it will make you laugh.

The best monsters to kill for each charm color
dan2012 replied to Solidus_77's topic in General Discussion
sounds dumb, but the lvl13 crabs by relekka drop 1 gold charm every other drop, which isn't bad really considering their HP is so low. Good for getting up the basic levels i guess. -
can i just check something? QUESTION: is summoning actually worth spending all this money on? ANSWER: in my opinion, no. The rewards are "potential". when people talk about getting money back from the extra fish they might catch in the three minutes they have a granite crab or the extra herbs they might get from a macaw, it is all hypothetical payment, rather than cold hard cash. However, just remember that for 10 scrolls you still have to pay for the pouch and convert it so u can use the special move you want to, so effectively unless the reward from the special move outweighs the cost to summon and support the familiar then i don't think it's worth it. PLUS, if you can't get to an obelisk while you're fishing in catherby to revive your summoning points to keep fishing then it'll cost ANOTHER pouch to re-summon. RESULT: i ain't spending my hard earned cash on something that i don't see will benefit me in the long run, except to up my combat level a few times. I'm just going to follow the general consensus and ignore it for a month until Tears gives experience. At the end of the day, 100 tears equals around 7.5k exp per week and the more quests the better your score. my record is about 155, which gave me almost 10k r/c exp. This way, i could be on the highscores by March without training it at all (as long as in Feb u can get tears exp).
-
This might sound really dumb but i was bored the other day and starting killing rock crabs in relekka - i killed 25 crabs in about 5 minutes and got 22 gold charms. It seems they only drop gold and only 1 at a time at that, but with the extremely low HP these guys have you could quite easily build up a stash of 100+ in an hour or so. I admit they're probably not the best for actual combat training, but my experience wasn't exactly planned as at the time i was just wandering around the world wearing my full lederhosen and ended up attacking them with just my desert boots. The best thing to do is for someone to make a chart of what exp each pouch/scroll combination gives so you can plan ahead. Then, rather than just getting as many charms as possible, just get what you need to level up and do 1 level a day or something. i've not trained combat or slayer for a long time so i'll be damned if i'm gonna start now (although i am annoyed my lowest lvl is now 18 and not 63). dan

What annoys me about summoning is basically the cost. I've spent a long time getting my account to 60+ and now hard working to get it to 65+. i pride myself on my lowest stat being 63 runecrafting - a skill i don't enjoy doing, but you're only as good as your lowest level (thank god for Tears of Guthix). However - although i am now 106cb (+2 thx to summoning) i am not rich, i never have been rich and will most likely never be rich. All the money i make i put back into worthwhile skills. But to my main point - why the f... does it cost so much for summoning? It's basically a skill to use up the money of the zezima's in the game, but not everybody is as rich as them and cannot afford to spend 20m on shards just to level up a skill that at this moment in time, has no benefit to me. I agree with Sprout's previous statement - there are two main things that make up summoning: 1) the availability of charms - they drop 1 at a time, so it is a skill that you can't get to 99 quickly, which i quite like as you can't buy your way to the cape. 2) shards cost 50gp each - not a lot really, but for granite crabs it works out as 430gp for 23xp and you need level 16 to be able to summon them. Surely to make this skill work, Jagex will have to change one or the other, as a combination of both simply does not work. Either make the shards cheaper, or make the charms drop in multiples (1, 5, 10). Rant over. :XD: EDIT: i think SOME charms should be tradeable but not all - i.e. only Gold charms to get you started. After that you have to kill to get Green, Crimson, Blue, etc. It makes it harder for people with 14bn to get the cape.

Tip.it Times Presents: Jagex, I want a GOOD update!
dan2012 replied to MPM's topic in General Discussion
I know it's late but i've only just got round to reading all of the old Times posts thanks to my work server crashing so i can't really do much else. As a health and safety advisor at the company i work for, my thinking regarding the "repetitive clicking" to get to 99 cooking in this post can actually be root cause of an RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury), especially considering the general age of players seems to be quite low. Fair enough it has made things like 99 cooking and 99 fletching a lot easier to do, but at the end of the day, this is a game and it should be fun - getting to 99 is still a major achievement whether you did it the old skool way or with the next "cook/make x". I mean, how often have you been playing for a while and noticed your wrist starts aching after a lot of clicking? I may only be 24 (probably old in runescape terms, but still young), but due to a lot of skating injuries over the last 10 years i actually have mild arthritis in both wrists, which makes playing runescape sometimes unbearable with all the clicking. However, Jagex have not completely sold out, as they have still made skills like firemaking a difficult task without "burn x" - and with my wrists in the state they are, getting to 96 (so far) has been a major achievement for me. I am in no way condoning the fact that they should make the game easier for everyone with a "drop all" in your inventory or "make x" on every skill possible, but you have to take into account that every company needs to have health and safety advisors and runescape is no different. At the end of the day, the wellbeing of the players is paramount as things that make the player uncomfortable will mean that they won't come back and play again, which is where they will lose out. PS> i've never been into the wilderness unless it's part of a quest as i take a moral stance on PK'ing (in that i don't agree with it as a "skiller"), so i'm not going to comment on that part! dan -
10 noted trout off a level 1. To be honest, i didn't expect a fat lot more but come on! I've done hundreds of lvl2 clues (i hunt harpies for fun) and after a year i managed to fill all three god books (trading pages i got for ones i needed) but apart from that i've never had anything decent.
-
i've just come to the conclusion that my rings of wealth are completely pointless, i've sold and made new ones just in case but i'm on about my 15th one now. And apologies for posting this in the wrong forum, it wasn't meant to be a rant but i guess i just got carried away.... :XD:
-
well i'm 77 range but i cba with it, it's most definitely not my fave skill. with my hally i can quite regularly hit 20+ so it doesn't take that long, plus it's easier on the wallet when it comes to arrows, etc. (i don't have much cash lol)
-
i have killed metal dragons as part of my slayer, i've had both 100+ iron and steel but i've never actually hunted them. i've done a load of level three clues as well as i regularly kill the black dragons in zanaris with my trusty d hally, but i've had nothing worth remembering from them. my worst clue drop of all time is 10 trout, but i think i did get a blue beret once when i was a very low level.
-
Ok, maybe that's a little harsh, but i'm getting a bit fed up with it now. I've been playing the game since 2005 and as you can see by my signature below, i've not spent it messing around. However, i have never had a decent drop (i.e. better than rune) in my three years of playing the game, and it's not for lack of effort. I killed fire giants from level 40 range to level 70 range (i was level 80-odd at the time, i started range late) and my best drop to date is a rune scimmy. Just the ONE rune scimmy. Now as you can see, that's a lot of fire giants. I did slayer for 6 months non-stop so i could get to level 65 and kill dust devils. I was level 99 when i started killing them and i'm now level 104. Fair enough i've not killed JUST dust devils, but i've killed enough to warrant a decent drop (i.e. a d chain). My best drop? either a handful or Rune Javelins or some Rune Arrows a few times. I did a load of barrows runs when it first started, apparently there was a mistake in that you had a 50% chance of getting a d helm - what did i get in my first 50 runs? Runes. No dragon armour, no barrows items. I absolutely love doing clue scrolls and i regularly spend time killing harpie bug swarms so i can do the level two clues - on my best day i did 12 clue scrolls in one day! my best reward? God Pages. :notalk: although having said that i have got all three completed god books as a result of clues. And just to round things off nicely.... these are drops received by my r/l girlfriend abbie372, who's been playing for about 18mths: level two clue scroll at lvl25 combat - ranger boots level two clue scroll at lvl40 combat - ranger boots fire giants at lvl80 combat - dragon spear iron dragons at lvl95 combat - dragon plateskirt numerous barrows runs - full ahrim, full guthan armour, full dharok. i just want a dragon drop. :XD:

I know i've already commented on this (my choice was Underground Pass) but i noticed a few people have included Ernest The Chicken. "Ernest..." was the first quest i ever attempted at a lowly lvl10 after stumbling by accident into the Manor and after numerous hours of wandering around pulling levers someone actually pointed out your fanastic website, which helped me greatly! i'd never have done that quest on my own otherwise. but although it was hard and it took me forever i actually kinda enjoyed it cuz i like puzzles :)
