Have a few friends from another university over. They decided it'd be fun to watch porn on one of their laptops, so that's what they're doing. On a different note, one of them is over because we told he should come down to hang out. One of his really good girl friends overdosed (forget which drug) and died. So we didn't want him to get smashed and maybe do something not so smart (he gets really emotional and drinks a lot and has talked about suicide; he's experienced a lot of [cabbage] in his life, death of his mom, dad can't support him).

Too big of a deal about it? It's the event that caused all this fear of terrorism in our country. It no doubt impacted us going to the Middle East. We were attacked on our own soil, too. That's kinda a big deal for us. Are you saying that (if this number from wiki.answers is correct) any global event that experiences fewer than 70k deaths shouldn't be a big deal, since about 70k people die in the world each day?

Could be quite the traumatic experience, seeing someone's life simply go away. Not something I could handle. I guess that's why I'd rather if everyone would die sleeping. Because if I were to witness it, at least I could trick my mind into thinking they just fell asleep. It'd only hit me after I left the room and wasn't looking at them anymore. Plus, painful death is more frightening than one that isn't. I'm hoping to God that I die in my sleep painlessly. EDIT: Was reading the Apology and I stumbled upon a quote that I thought was pretty interesting. It kinda relates to death (more so when we were talking about not comprehending non-existence after death): "No one knows whether death may not be the greatest of all blessings for a man, yet men fear it as if they knew that it is the greatest of evils. And surely it is the most blameworthy ignorance to believe that one knows what one does not know." But I fear it not because I think it's evil, but because I'm unsure of what's to come.

I think so. It's like saying, "If I was in the right place at the right time, I would shoot Hitler." You can say it, but it'll probably be a hell of a lot harder if you were actually there, pointing the gun at the man. I'm not saying you wouldn't do it. I was just saying in general. I don't really support the death penalty, but if someone has to die (because the law says so or whatever), I don't want it to be in front of my eyes. I'd rather not know about it at all.
