That reminds me of a girl I know who's half Jewish and half Irish Catholic. Interesting combination. And the only heritage I know of that's 100% awesome is American.

Mostly British, I think, with a little German. However, this weekend I'll be visiting my grandmother's hometown, which is where the family graveyard is. I hope to learn a little more about my heritage there.

How in the world did this thread get so off subject? Do you deny free will? Just because someone is born with a natural tendancy or preference doesn't mean that he has no choice but to act upon it. I have a tendancy to examine everything; but I choose not to sometimes. I have a tendancy to be friendly towards everyone I meet; I choose not to sometimes. I have a tendancy to tell lies; I choose not to sometimes. Just because someone is born attracted to the same gender does not mean that he has to act upon those feelings. So, back on topic, I'd wish that I could be a shapeshifter. How awesome would that be?

And yet the Judeo-Christian teachings highly esteem women. Genesis says that woman is a blessing from God, Song of Solomon is a love song, and Paul tells husbands to love their wives as themselves. To call the Bible sexist is to ignore half the picture. And bashing fundamentalists for practicing their beliefs puts you on the exact same level as them. To the Topic Starter: If your parents are sending you to a private school, they're probably doing so for a reason. Respect them, respect your teachers, respect the preacher, and just deal with what you're supposed to do.

I'm with Ghost on this one, suprise, surpise. Most of what we "know" we accept on authority. A child believes in Santa Claus because she trusts her parents. A Christian believes in God because she trusts the Bible. A student believes in atoms or World War I because she trusts her teachers and textbooks. None of them know these things from experience; they blindly accept them from sources they trust.

Actually, adding to the Bible and twisting its words to back up your already extremist views makes you an extremist. Taking the Bible to heart turns people into a different kind of extremist - someone who is extremely loving and genuine. I'd like to challenge all those who are bashing Christianity. Learn what you're talking about. How many of you have sat down with a Bible and read it? I mean putting aside your biases, and not reading your opinion of Christianity back into it. Simply read it as you would read a book you know nothing about; then decide what you think about it based on what it teaches. I know some of you have done that and still have objections to the Bible, but it's obvious that most people who constantly bash Christianity have no idea about its fundamental teachings.

Please. We all know you only did that so you could brag about it on this thread. :P

The problem is that Affirmative Action doesn't always put people of equal ability of the same level. Instead, it places someone of less natural ability above someone else simply because of his race. Affirmative Action has done plenty of good. I know plenty of very intelligent people who could not have gone to college without that money. My problem is when AA oversteps its bounds, discriminating against the majority instead of merely helping minorities. Viktor, it seems we're finally on the same side of a debate. :P

If survival of the fittest is your only reason to support abortion, do you also support the killing of the handicapped, sick, and elderly? After all, it would free up more resources and help cut back on overpopulation. Besides, how much nicer would the world look without those people with defects? And I don't have any cold hard evidence to back this up, but if I recall, America isn't really contributing to population growth. In fact, the American birth rate is right around the replacement level. The American population is still growing, but that's only because of immigration.

I've given this a matter a good deal of thought in the past, and I'd have to say yes, I'd shoot him. I'd feel less guilt over killing this criminal than I would over letting my family die when I had the power to save them. Is it the morally right choice? I haven't figured that one out yet. I just know what I'd do. Of course, I'm sure I'm capable of much worse than that. Few people recognize their true potential for evil. Given the right circumstances, most of us could end up every bit as evil as Hitler.
