If your name made headlines in a newspaper 20 years from now
Most likely my name, if on the front page of the paper, would be in a by-line.

If you could go back into History?
It would be more like 1137 pwn4g3.

That's why I love bookmarks, and why I hate getting on this site on computers that don't have it bookmarked. It makes me miss Scapeboard.

!!!
That's when this incarnation of the tip.it forums was launched. The previous incarnation was Scapeboard, which went down (to avoid a long story) a few months before that. Once the forum came back up, most of the oldies rushed back and signed up. EDIT: Darn, two people beat me to responding. :P

Haha, it's great to see you, Meesy. I don't know if you remember me, but I remember seeing your posts all the time back in the day. How's life? :) Viktor, you make me sad. :shame:

What is it with...? *Title too long*
Interesting point. If so, then what do you call it, before that point? A like? Fascination. Viktor, it's times like this that you make me both happy and sad.

What do you hate most about school?
I'm not a fan of homework. I recognize its usefulness in certain cases, such as reading, writing, and reinforcing mathematical concepts, but oftentimes I have too much. I end up not getting as much rest and sleep as I need because I have so much homework, and because I'm exhausted, I don't learn as well. I hate when my schooling interferes with my education. Other than that, I love school.

women and men equality..
Kill every other baby girl, problem solved. Now you're just being an idiotic bigot. Do you realize the absurdity of that suggestion? If you kill every other baby girl, you're likely to eliminate some good cooks from the gene pool.

So do you not like sea food? As mentioned in the original post, I don't like any seafood, except for shrimp. :P I've actually never tried any reptile meat. I wouldn't mind trying some alligator or something like that. Haha, a t-rex t-bone steak. :P

Allow me to make an addendum: I'll try just about any type of meat that once lived on land, within reason. :P

A lighter topic
Same here puls some hot coffee =P~ ..? A pancake can't have salty filling, I think even the Bible mentions it. That's just wrong. You're supposed to put nutella, syrup or marmalade in it. To be honest, that's not even pancake anymore, is it.. Verse 13.9: And Jesus looked down apon his followers and said "Thou who shalt eateth thy pancakes without syrup will burn in the firey pit of hell". Thus, the word of the lord. Amen. Gosh, at least get the reference right. That verse is found in Hezekiah 13:10, not 9.

What is education?
Well, we've had a post about grades, a post about school systems, and a post about the role of religion in education, but we've yet to have a discussion about what education is. Here's a few question to help frame the discussion: What is education's purpose? What should it consist of? What is its goal, and how should we reach that goal? Is it purely utilitarian? If so, why? Does it make a better society? If so, how? Does it have a purpose beyond getting a job or bettering society? If so, what? Feel free to bring in any other issues I haven't thought of.

women and men equality..
Finally someone with some sense on this message board! C'mon, be reasonable, y'all. Not all women are good cooks; those should be allowed to enter the workforce. Nonono you have it all wrong... these situations are what illegal immigrants are for ;) But then what do we do with all of those no-good women who can't cook well? Giving them low paying, no-education-required jobs is the only reasonable option.

A Heavier Topic
WARNING: The topic starter is in no way responsible for emotional trauma caused by this thread to members of PETA. Read at your own risk. I've started this topic due to popular support. Thanks, Vick, for the inspiration. ---------------------------------------- I'm an animal lover. I love them grilled, fried, roasted, barbequed, broiled, stir fried -- it's all good. I'll try just about any type of meat that once lived on land. (No sea food but shrimp for me.) Chicken is my favorite, white or dark meat, fried or barbequed. Pork tenderloin is incredible when it's marinated and grilled to perfection. Tender, medium-well steaks and big juicy hamburgers are my favorite types of beef. Thin sliced deli turkey piled high on a sandwich... mmm. So what are your favorite types of meat? How do you like them cooked?

Pancakes, but nothing beats perfectly burned cinnamon toast. (I'm tempted to make a thread called "A Heavier Topic," talking about different types of meat.)

The place of Religion in Schools
The Supreme Court did not define Secular Humanism as a religion. That was merely the footnote/personal opinion of one of the judges. Opposing the use of Reason in schools is not the same as opposing religion in schools. Reason allows students to evaluate different views. Religion does not. Which I picked up on through further research after making my post, which I why I removed that paragraph already. :P Children should not be taught that they can "only" rely on their own reason. They should be taught that there is more than one belief system in the world and be given the opportunity to choose for themselves as they mature mentally. I disagree. Childhood is a very important time, and I believe that it's an important time for parents to their children religion, just as it's an important time to teach the child manners, responsibility, and love. Or that [insert different religious text here] is [insert God name here]'s infallible word. There is nothing to prove that the Bible is right, or the Quran is right, or the Book of Mormon is right. Teaching children to rely on reason is the only system that is not unproven. It allows them to consider all the different religions and decide whether they need the emotional support provided by religion and, if so, which one they would like to attach themselves to. How do I know I can rely on my own reason? Because I reason that it's reliable. It's circular logic; you cannot prove the reliability of reason without using reason.

The place of Religion in Schools
Of course religion has a place in schools. Philosophy/World Religions: Students ought to be given an overview of the world's major belief systems. History: Understanding a culture's religion and philosophy is vital to accurately understand a culture. For example, if you study the abolitionist movement in America, but leave out the influence of the Second Great Awakening on anti-slavery beliefs, then you miss a large part of the picture. Literature: In order to understand what a book means, you have to understand the context - the author's life, culture, religion, surrounding historical events, and such. Also, many scriptures ought to be read for literary value. I firmly believe the Bible should be required reading in every ancient literature class, just as Plato and Homer ought to be. Art: Once again, context. Whether a class is studying Midieval, Renaissance, Romantic, or Modern art, understanding the surrounding belief systems is crucial to understanding both the movements and individual works. There's plenty of examples where understanding religion is a vital part of a subject's context, and therefore ought to be taught. As far as teaching children about religion at a young age, I find it ridiculous to say that doing so is wrong. Unless you hide your child from all forms of education, including communication, his thought patterns are going to be based on some kind of unproven assumptions. Teaching your child that he can rely only on his own reason and observation is instilling an unproven belief system just as much as teaching him that the Bible is God's infallible Word.

Kramer's Racist Remarks.
I also agree that while his reaction was way over the top, no one would've cared if it'd been a black man. Just another of those double standards in our society. Perhaps we need a White History Month and a white-only college scholarship program to balance out those prejudices.

Have any funny acronyms?
There used to be a private school around here named First Assembly of God School. They eventually changed their name to First Assembly of Christ.

Whigs and Tories?
I thought two major ones were Labour and Liberal, and Whig is american :? There hasn't been a Whig Party in America since the early 1850s. Well I know that but regardless, its was american Yep, though the name was borrowed from the British Whigs, who date back to before the Glorious Rebellion.
