It is different in 2 things: 1. Gun culture in Panama is sort of poor. Most people simply get a revolver or a shotgun and don't really know much about guns. However, there's a good amount of legal ones, let's say, for every 5 houses on some suburb, at least 1 has in the very least a shotgun. 2. Psychiatric tests for permits, possession and carry both require diferent psychiatric tests. I guess this is the reason why pretty much anyone who owns and carry in Panama is reliable. Not only that, you must also prove that your gun works and that you know how to use it. By tests I don't mean just some theoric exam, you get evaluated to prove you're a sane person but what gets you the permits is how well you prove to react on a sitation that requires a gun. If you want to get a gun but know nothing about them, you have to pass some classes/basic training, etc... As for cases of civilian defending themselves, they are somewhat common. What's curious is that they rarely end up on someone dying. Most are just people shooting burglars on their property/neighbors property, or some public place close to where they live. We've had incidents that ended in shootings on crowed places, due to "class-clash" (drug dealers shooting each other with armed civilians around) that ended before the police arrived. Just last year there was a shooting on a club's avenue that was stopped by 3 civilians who were carrying and ended with no casualties (only 12 rounds were shot), I guess it also helps that we simply don't let the media get anywhere close to the names of who shot / was injured / died / etc (familiars are dealt exclusively by authorities); altho the incidents are reported, it rarely goes into any other detail than saying "a shooting happened in x place" or "a burglar was captured after a recident of x neighborhood shot him". (ofc, there's propaganda-media that base its sources on rumors, but nobody takes these seriously). Now criminal vs criminal, those happen daily as they are "hermetic" incidents (they only happen on violent places that only affect the people living in there). Most of the cases of people shooting burglars happen because people from more violent places go to steal to less violent/calm/safer neighborhoods (safer in great deal because of armed civilians).

Divination - one of the new skills reported by IGN
Or channeling. I Really don't see that as all the gods are mortals, but they've gathered so much of this godly energy and lived so long that they have cognitively dissolved the boundaries of mortal thinking. Meaning they don't see anything that can really kill or stop them.

Hahahaha I thought I was the only one who noticed that

The sum of the 4 numbers, 4+3+2+1 for a total of 10, just like the bonus on the icons.

And this is why I keep insisting on you reading the thread. Not trying to be a prick or something, just been trying to tell you that these points were discussed before. When they say some dude was chasing my niece with a machete, they actually meant that. Now, on that ocassion and the burglars I had the "time to think" and didn't go full lethal, on the stalker tho... What's reasonable can vary. As for your view on guns in schools, this ridiculous "gun-free zone" thing only applies to public schools; look at the schools of the sons of senators, congressmen, etc... On the gun stealing subject, as I lawyer, all I can tell you is "there's a law for that" (you're forced to report the gun as stolen the moment it happens, you'll be getting in a lot of trouble if you don't). Altho I sorta agree with your point. Now if you wanna know something funny about it, a good % of stolen gun cases happen because of anti-guns stealing guns from pro-guns because they considered them "too dangerous". Thanks God in my country we've only seen 4 incidents with stolen legal guns, but I've worked through at least 12 that didn't end in anything, as they were events like "some mom spotted my cc, and she actually followed me around, sadly for me, I had to enter a hospital and since she knew I was carrying, she actually broke in my car and stole my gun while I was inside the hospital" < that really happened last week to some very unlucky dude... luckily, she didn't know how to remove the safe...

If the person wanted to slash their throats instead of cut off their fingers, I'd imagine it would've taken less effort. Well then find me 26 people dead by having their throats slashed in one incident, I guess. Stab wounds aren't as damaging as gun shot wounds. That's how they aren't comparable. It's not hard to understand. (source) I can think of a few but not as many as 26. Nevertheless, the funny thing is that far more people are killed with pistols than "military style assault riffles" (that one always makes me giggle). Also, I always found it fascinating how small is the % of incidents with legally obtained guns in the U.S. Last I saw it was 0.01% chance of happening per individual or something? In a way, the stadistics in the U.S. extrapolate those of my country: you can expect that at some point between 4m population vs hundreds of millions some incidents happen. I really wish the media gave out percentages instead of wholes, by those standards, of course thousands sound like a lot, but then you look at how much those thousands represent and you realize you're more likely to die in your own kitchen... Not to forget those incidents have been going down steady for a good 20 years. Now back on knives, I might be able to say a thing or two about how effective they are in the right hands, since that seems to be what we're talking about now.

Except in the UK? :D On a more serious note, I'm WAY MORE afraid of someone with a karambit than someone with a gun against me...

Which? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAR_21 Either you have some really cool friends, or some really cool shooting range close to you lol. I'm jelly. Edit: Ban assault bows!

I'm asking because it seriously worries me how everyone thinks guns are like what you see in cod or whatever kids play these days, or what's worse, what they see in the movies... I've had mags melt on me before, I don't carry a 1911 because it's not as reliable as a 92fs, etc... It's not hypothetical scenarios, it's people who know nothing about guns saying stupid crap about them... good lord... (sorry for language). Which?

I'll just ignore the kph... And if you unleash one guy driving a hummer he would prob get as many kills aswell. I dunno why people think that shooting a gun is really that simple... How many of you have actually ever shot a gun? Just wondering.
-
.
You're not aware of the 21 foot rule aren't you? Efficiency is very relative. In the time someone takes to change magazines, someone else is able to kill just as much people with a knife... I know people who are hella slow switching mags, but I also know others that fire arrows at ridiculously fast rates. I was shown how to hip-shoot so the 21 rule is more like 10 rule for me, but that's not necessarily the case for everybody else.

Lol fine. Don't include me in your quotes in future then. Again nope, I was answering Alg; I just multi-quoted. Again, I posted about this before, here: Exactly. Yet, here you are replying  If you bothered reading, you would've noticed I did so with this thread, or are you appealing to once = all? Some sort of ultimatum in place of proper argument I'm guessing? Didn't you do that by appealing to liability and responsability? And you were given an asnwer that you refuse to acknowledge.

I'm using the term in the effect of "what happens in x, might not be normal in y". As for UK, I wasn't trying to, as I told you back then, my point was another and there were indeed other factors. If I wanted to link gun control to violent crime rise, I would've used Mexico, but as you just said, there are other factors. Glad we're back to civil mode, hope it stays like this for a while >.<

.
If there's no intent to supply a prohibited person with a firearm, the firearm is reported missing/stolen as required by law, and there wasn't some gross negligence, there would be little or no legal liability. If I were to steal a car from you, go on a high-speed run, and run over half a dozen kids while cutting through a park, what would your legal liabilities look like? What if I were to rob your house and use that money to buy illegal drugs or to commission a hit? As I said, he didn't even bother to read the thread. That was one of the first points I touched: Edit: here's an interesting watch. Mexico has a nation-wide gun ban, yet people seem to ignore how incredibly weaponized carteles are... The irony here, is that the carteles get to keep their guns, while the people trying to defend themselves from the cartels are often clashed with police trying to take their guns, when the police should be clashing with carteles for their guns instead... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XiSnCt9fDc Can we all agree that the idiocyncrasy of each country plays a big role regarding the effect of guns?

Not like I can read her, but I wasn't insulting her. It just sounds like the type of stuff you expect soccer moms to say. So much this. And to quote a great quote (worth the redundance): "We can do to guns the same thing we did to drugs; create an underground multimillionaire business that we have absolultely no control over".
-
.
Or Switzerland where everybody owns a gun but more suicides with such guns happen than actual crimes compared to Mexico, a country with a nation-wide gun ban where people are better armed than most smaller countries defense forces... What works on x, doesn't necessarily works with y... And just what the hell is bollocks? some sort of soccer mom slang?

Nope, I was answering alg, don't put words in my mouth. So does policemen, should we take guns away from them aswell? Crimes with stolen *legal* guns happened 4 times in here, but I already discussed that pages before (which I'm guessing you didn't even bother to look at). Crimes with legal guns by law abiding citizens never happened here.
-
.
We did. I'm guessing people like to skip the whole thread and post an already discussed point  That's funny, those are the exact same reasons that grant you both gun permits over here; no shootings done with legal guns by law abiding citizens yet, hell not even by familiars, oh look hey! a handful done with stolen ones... but hey! look at the gun incidents that did happen, all done by ilegally obtained guns, wow! Who would have thought that?! So you're not reponsible and liable, don't get a gun then, other people are tho. Seriously now, we already discussed this. I personally agree the U.S. should add the same psychiatric-test-before-getting-any-gun-or-gun-permit model we use, the problem is, when someone suggests that (as we already discussed before), they also come up with ridiculous terms classifying guns (my favorite one being "assault riffle" lol) or even putting a limit on magazines (or as the media loves to misinfo: clip).

Did you spot it? You're assuming a result without knowing what that mistake might have meant... Edit: Nyo is right tho, I was just trying to make a point, normally I just let these sort of things hover over people's heads; using them only branches the discussion further, like some people are doing...
-
.
To be fair, no one seeing it doesn't show a correlation between ignorance of guns and a desire to restrict them. I think there is generally such a correlation, but this doesn't really do much to highlight it. Oh please don't get me wrong; I was just appealing to the "by that logic" method . I could've said something like "I know nothing about cars and I see news about cars killing people all the time, BAN CARS!" and get yet another branch of arguments that don't really prove much since I would be picking the berries I like and taking a decition ignoring the ones I didn't pick. Props to Nyo for being the only one so far spotting the mistake :P
