Well you obviously have never played a PC game other than Runescape then. Bloom is the simulation of the sun's rays. Notice how light is flooding the tops of the roofs and they are shining? That's bloom. Yep pretty much, I hate ALL electronic games except for RS. If I didn't play RS I wouldn't own, nor play a single computer or console game lol. And I thought they meant bloom like the sickle effect in Mort Myre. O btw, don't be a douche. Karma is a [bleep]. Calling out ignorance is different than being a douche ;) I'd rather be offensive than ignorant to be frank Ya, the interface of Jagex's programming tools is what you are seeing in the picture. In the JavaOne conference in 2009 Jagex showed their programming interfaces and infrastructure in greater detail.
  2. Sort of lame that Jagex is referencing things that haven't been created yet. The hints should be guessible to a certain extent - but referencing Strykewyrms before they even come out is a bit unfair. Awesome update though~!!

In the Develop Online e-magazine there was a feature called "The Jagex Factor" in which they looked into the operational differences between Jagex and other game development companies. In this interview there was a large picture that I believe shows the new Zanaris + the bloom effect. This is almost the same picture that we saw at that blurry conference between Mod Fetzki and an interviewer with the live audience. However, this one is much more clear and it shows the bloom effect better.
  7. Am I the only one that prefers the old really long DevBlog answer list Q&A's? These live Q&A's are extremely inefficient, there are only 5 pages of answers... in the devblog Q&A's last year there was a ridiculous amount of answers...
  8. Heard it on RSOF but I haven't seen the movie.
  9. That is one of the many fake "hints" regarding the Strange Power incident. The ghost ship has been there for a long time. This has been discussed in the Strange Power thread already.
  10. ^ Ya, I was REALLY surprised to hear that they are working on another MMO now. List of Jagex productions right now: 1) Runescape 2) Stellar Dawn 3) Third MMO 4) Games Lab Productions (Funorb + iPhone games + standalone small titles) 5) Publisher team (working with 3rd party developers to publish their games, example: War of Legends) Jagex is working on quite a lot nowadays. :)
  11. ^ Lol I love how he completely ignored the Insight Venture question. Why is he afraid to admit that Jagex received venture capitalist funding? A lot of tech startups receive VC funding...
  12. What they need is just a TV ad to boost their fame. Many people around me still think that RuneScape = the game with 2d graphics. That trailer on the homepage should do the trick. I completely agree.
  13. Jagex has already admitted that the new player numbers have stagnated. Mod Kelvin said so in the community management interview he did on a podcast. That's why we have been seeing updates for the starting area - beginning quests, tutorial update, etc. They are trying to get new gamers into Runescape. I'm also sort of worried that so many people were leaving Jagex. I check the Jagex Vacancies list every week and there are always a lot of openings available. I was always impressed that Jagex was expanding their workforce by so much, but now that I know they were just replacing leavers I'm wondering why so many people are leaving Jagex. Game developers generally don't have that high of a turnover rate in terms of workers...
  14. ^ Pointless post. Anyways, on topic: The loading screens are really quick on a fast computer. However, I used to play Runescape on a slower computer and the loading screens used to annoy the heck out of me because it took a good 1-2 seconds to load, which really takes you out of the mood of playing the game. That being said, Jagex has done a superb job in streaming such a big world through a browser as seamlessly as possible, so they can't change much to be honest. :P My most hated one was the Grand Exchange one as well ^__^
  15. You are saying that Micro Transactions and RWT are no different except for the fact that in Micro-Transactions the money is going to the company that made the game. Uh... HELLO, THATS THE WHOLE DIFFERENCE. Next thing you are going to say that us paying membership for more quests and skills is the same as RWT? Get real
  16. First article - Sorry, but micro-transactions have nothing to do with RWT. Literally nothing. Connecting the illegal purchase of in-game items from other players to the publisher of a game offering in-game bonuses for money is ludicrous. Second article was very well written though.
  17. Obvious answer: Runecrafting/mining update Not-So-Obvious Answer: New skill? (more variety, and skills are the essence of runescape)
  18. God the second article was really bad... people didn't dare ask for hard-earned items before Item Lending? Are you kidding me?!?! There were thousands of beggars that wanted free items ever since the beginning of runescape. I think Tip It Times needs some more quality control to be honest... First article was nice though ;)
  19. You guys do know that it's a flash game right? That IS how it will look - which is pretty damn impressive for a flash game. Seeing as how the game was developed by a 3rd party developer - it would be highly unlikely that Jagex would give up their RuneTek engine without a large licensing fee - therefore the developer used Flash.
  20. Do you even know what the word nerf means? Removing a glitch is not "nerfing". When Runescapers try to use mature MMO terms its really emberassing. lol  "Nerf" is a "mature" MMO term? I'm pretty sure the term "nerf" is derived from the toy weapons brand name. And you are choosing to use "mature" in the same context as it? No, it's not technically a "nerf," but it happened, and was something the player's enjoyed and could by many be considered an update because it's harmless and cool looking, and could therefore be "nerfed." Your ignorance is astounding. Nerfing is a mature MMO term used since the days of Everquest. Nerfing means to make something less viable. It is the opposite of the word buff - which means to make something more viable. For example, if Jagex decided to make melee combat do less damage in order to balance the combat triangle, then that would mean that melee got nerfed. Please know what you are talking about before you emberass yourself like the rest of the Runescape kids.

  22. Tags: it's only a strategy game, not a full mmorpg. :( Although a free laptop is a free laptop, you have to be 18 or older to win it :P Lol 18 or older - that cuts Jagex's player base to about 10%
  23. Several J-Mods have stated that it is a standalone RTS-type online strategy game. It is only being published by Jagex - Jagex did not develop the game.
  24. Can we stop talking about Stellar Dawn? This game has nothing to do with Stellar Dawn. It's a standalone RTS-type game being only published by Jagex. Stellar Dawn is still coming and is in active development.
  25. In this interview with the lead CM Mod he mentions that they have spent some time reworking the beginning of the game (like the new tutorial and now these reworked quests) in order to have a better impact on brand new players so that they stay with the game. He also says that player number growth has stalled and it's sort of implied that Jagex is re-working the beginning of the game to solve this problem. They want to leave a good impression on new players so that numbers start growing again.
