  1. *rolls eyes in general annoyance* 'We want to build colonies, not waste our time flying around shooting stuff!' *Designs a game on colonies* 'We want to fly around shooting stuff, not waste our time on colonies' Anywho, we are 1 month overdue for Black May the Second. As fair warning.
  2. Gerere, no, your bore mines were not built when the thefts happened.
  3. Because pressing and holding 'Build armies' does not constitute a strategy... Also, some people like to believe that they are actually controlling a country...rather than an army of civilians.
  4. I think what Grim means...is that there is not just ONE MASTER PLAN that has to be followed, and if there is a roadbump you fire your nukes at the person who disagreed with you. I do think that the way forward is to remove numbers, and have NPCs with spines though, since we don't have enough players to outlaw steamrollering =P
  5. Ok, updatary: The vote, unsuprisingly, failed 435,000 to 22,000. In other news the Terran Federation have offered a 10,000 kT bounty for each of Vasily's squad members after footage was sent to them showing the brutal beating of Chi, and subsequent destruction of the Pegasus. Additionally, the Kalinka have set up a new Jumpgate into Astare. The mission, apparently, was started late last year, has been to set up a truespace gateway on the edge of the Terrance Rift. The transport vessels had been flying for the best part of 8 months in truespace, finally arrived within the Terrance rift and deployed a pair of jumpgates, one linking to Tocys, the other to Astare. The operation, a technical marvel of the modern age, has opened up a vital trade route into the Astare System for the Kalinka Empire and ends the dominance of the Terran Empire, since their establishing of two colonies earlier this year. The colony vessels, who were travelling with the Jumpgate fleet, are expected to arrive in two months, delivering some half a million settlers. The Johan Dynasty legalises slavery on their worlds and adds its name to the Terran Federation's calls to end the unfair ruling prohibiting the expansion of their territory. However, in the Astare System this has only resulted in the Andian Empire beginning a colonial mission to Astare 4, locally known as Ravenna. The ship will be crossing the Terran Federation over the next year, spending a little over a day in each system, but carries three quarters of a million inhabitants. Pirate activity within the Astare System has stepped up as a result of earlier attacks on their bases. The new bases, established on Astare 3 are seen as a direct challange to the Terran Settlement on Astare 4. While some bases had been established on the abandoned colony world, the new bases sport a population of some 30,000 people in total. Berlin has felt a drop in piracy over the last two months while the pirate fleet was in flight. British Spacer colonies have invited Kalinka warships, in a direct violation of Terran laws, to guard their bases. The Terran Fleet, which had departed only last month, has remained on course for Rossini, where they are expected to escort the Andian Colony Ship to Astare. And in local news: Following months of inactivity by the Astare Government, a Biological study has been undertaken by the citizens. The study is expected to be completed next month. In addition to this, with the aforementioned inactivity there has been some breakaway from the main settlement. Three groups, one of 40,000, one of 25,000 and one of 10,000 have broken away to start their own settlements. While still loyal to the Terran Federation, the settlements are in direct competition with Ravenna, and there has already been some espionage, with the theft of 2,000 kT, left lying around bore mines. The Arbiters have reached 1,000 members has has stopped growing under the direction of Chief Shemlock. The force is now working on establishing a fleet of ground, air and sea vechicles to deal with the growing settlements. Patrols have been stepped up to deal with the recent thefts. 6 months until the tax is due: 25,000 kT. Reference: [hide] [/hide] Game Mechanics: Ok, this is me prodding the game into action: Flying around as the caped crusader won't really work for much longer. Mercenary missions are obviously still avalible, however there will nominally be a reason why blowing up the base from orbit will not work. Also please be aware of cyber missions. Anyone can take part in them, and they have a far smaller risk, since you won't die if you are killed in them...and unless you go after fleet command, there is unlikely to be any serious comeback on you if you fail. You can also steal kT or Tech Points, or other general effects. The downsides are that you are using programs, not nominal weapons. If you trip the firewall the area cannot be re-entered (aka no respawns to that mission when you die), and if you aren't properly prepared you can get hacked back. Anything that has a computer network can be hacked. And everyone has a room on Astare 4 (Except Nero and Max) and will spawn there if anything happens to them. Also, current situation is: Jonathan is Oversight for the System Aden is Colonial Overseer Nero is Pirate on the Estoc Max is Minor Pirate on a ship Jac is Captain without a ship Chi is Captain without a ship Xina is in her room Mars is onboard the Estoc Earth is in his room Zeitark is on his ship, Knightmare, in Deadspace Mask is in the Clinix
  6. But they don't cause conflict...They hang around, waiting for their massive army to be ready...then kill everyone. And because everyone else wants to play the long game, they don't have a massive army.
  7. Steamrollers gonna ally. Unless you make it impossible to ally with other steamrollers(in which case players don't attack each other, so it amounts to the same thing), then the game has all the non-steamrollers die off, and then the steamrollers kill each other.
  8. Hhahahahahhahahah I direct you to Dustymony, where Russia(Steamroller power) allied with France(Steamroller power) against Prussia(non-steamroller power). Or Retech's Hegemony, where Spain(Steamroller power) allied with Russia(Steamroller power) and Byzantia(Steamroller power) against everyone else...who were not steamroller powers.
  9. Godwin's Law...But...If you consider Nazi Germany, the Germans were not all 'YAY LET US KILL THE RUSSIANS' most people were silently against it... So...
  10. I have come up with two brilliant thoughts. 1) The game is set in the past, and research is random...so Ico gets hold of a discovery timeline, gets a #of players sided dice, and rolls for each of the events on the timeline. (Can also do this in the Space-future setting, just requires a little more effort =p). So on turn X something happens. Research doesn't do anything on its own...so discovering Steam Engines doesn't instantly give you a fully functioning railway network. Since there is no 'Money'(see second point) you also can't zerge rush through and build it in 5 minutes. 2) No numbers. Countries instead have traits, like, for instance, 'Rich' which means your country is rich. 'Militant' means your country is militant. Fiddling with the Traits happens, either, at the mod's disgression or by the player annoucing Anarchy(takes a break of 5 days and all the Traits change). Whenever you want to take on a project (like building a railroad network) the mod looks at your traits, looks at your research, looks at the global situation (Building a giant wall around your country when everyone is gearing up for war, for instance) and notes down how long it will take AND DOESN'T TELL THE PLAYER. The player can check back daily for progress reports which may speed up or slow down the project. Other thoughts: Roleplaying is fun, but should be reserved for fun (and maybe fiddling with global situation) and not have a massive effect on things. Combat...No numbers, you have generals to do that sort of stuff. You just get 'Our armies heavily outnumber them' or whatever. Each time you declare war there is a random chance to gain or lose a trait. IE if you are 'Rich' you might waste all your money on an unproductive war. Or if you are 'poor' you might create a great Industrial-Military Complex and become 'Rich'. Or whatever. Therefore if you are a big, rich, whatever, country, with a huge army, you are less likely to go to war simply to claim a sliver of territory because they already have all the traits they want. Provinces form regions. Completed regions give you 1 extra trait slot.
  11. /join #space-6 tavern Yes, it would cost +5 kT
  12. For reference: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12603519/Space/Weapons.txt http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12603519/Space2/Weapon%20Mods.txt Also, for reference, level 20 handheld Meson Blasters are 19 kT. If you want to calculate anything: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12603519/Levels.xls Only change the red squares. Small is for handheld(Divide the price in the price guide by 10 for the handheld version)
  13. Hmmm Archi <Begins with an A, doesn't end with an R, and only has 3 tall letters> Archimage_a <Begins with an A, doesn't end with an R, and only has 3 tall letters> Archimage_A <Begins with an A, doesn't end with an R, but has 4 tall letters> Archimager <Begins with an A, ends with an R, and only has 3 tall letters> Fairly conclusive that it isn't me, so the real question...y u no love me?
  14. You know what I do...I take a guess. I work out that lifting 5 people into air with my powers tires me out, so I take a 10 minute rest.
  15. Ninja-breadmen. Iey was the smily cloud.(I really don't know her that well) Rocco was the AT-AT at the door. Batman and the LG/Pacman one was catch-all. To be honest, though, I wasn't assigning names that much =P
  16. However, neither Doom nor Iey are on this thread, so were not included. QED
  17. So...Lynx...you are asking 'Can I create a light cycle out of Tron, that folds away into a baton'? Yes, but it only works in cyberspace.
  18. By that logic so is H2PM, Goonstalf, Necromagus, Rainy_Day, Synthox, 5361, Cowman_133, Y_Guy, Racheya, Meol, Das, Aeon_, Rob, N_odie, Stevepole, Tripsis, Veghatermeatlover, Mask (Mask should be included anyway, he has us in his signature =P)
  19. Doom and Iey are not here...This is the Space Thread. Like saying that Bob from down the road is 45 and is older than Doom.
  20. /join #space-5 tavern I am in the other room for 15 minutes.
  21. Why do people say that? I don't remember most of the stuff people have described until I see it described again...or until they use it. I am the oldest(20), followed by Dusty(also 20).
  22. No it doesn't, that is a gross generalisation. Masochists enjoy occassionally recieving some level of pain, usually, but not prerequisitely, with sexual connotation, but almost universally it is about trusting whoever is inflicting the pain not to cause damage that is irrevocably harmful, or excruicatingly painful. Losing randomly in a game is not about trust, it is about randomly losing in a game. There is a line between pain and pleasure, for masochists there is some overlap of that line, but the point where pleasure stop and only pain remains still exists.
  23. Masochists are not total reverses of normal. We feel the bitterness of losing just as hard as anyone else. So don't make generalisations.
  24. Probably. It is just my get out clause to prevent level 15 sweeperbots being invented simply because they can. Man with an atomic trigger connected to his heart?
