Not easily. Cheaper to build from new.

Just to reiterate...this is a trading ship...It doesn't have a terribly massive command structure. In any event Ico is the final arbiter on law and order...since it is 'his' colony.

Electrons don't carry photons. And the difference it would make if they did?
-
Hmmmm. Yeah, like Ross said super cooling would take energy. And it wouldn't generate a huge amount of energy...since you would only draw out the number of electrons present in the ionic material. So say you had 5 kilos of Copernicum, which was some how stablised, then you would have 112 electrons per atom. It has an atomic weight of 285...so 5 kilograms would be 17.5 Mols. Meaning 10,526,315,789,473,684,210,526,315 Electrons Resulting in total energy of -1,684,210.5 Columbs As such the total number of Amps that can be discharged is 1,684,210.5 discharged over a time period. Conversely, if you had Hydrogen, so 5,000 Mols in 5 kilos. 3,007,518,796,992,481,203,007,518,571 electrons Resulting as -481,203,007 Columb So the total energy to be discharged would be 481,203,007.5 Amps, over a period. Meaning that a less massive material (Since a heavy metal has more electrons, but also more protons and neutrons, thus resulting in less electrons per gram) would be preferable. Anyway. The resistance would be inversely proportional to time taken to discharge(So higher voltage takes less time to discharge)... So the whole system would produce approximately 1,684,210.5 or 481,203,007.5 Watts. So that is 1-400 Megawatts per 5 kilograms of Hydrogen...assuming a perfect conversion, which would probably be harder with Hydrogen than Copernicum. I don't really understand your system, and am just explaining how much energy would be present for extraction. All of that said: Energy from the combustion of hydrogen was stated at 29000 calories per gram. 1 gram calorie is 4.18 joules...so 121,220 Joules per gram...5,000 grams...ergo: 606,100,000 Joules, ergo 606 Megawatts per 5 kilograms of Hydrogen. Though the energy would have to be captured in someway.

Somehow I doubt it...The unrelated actions in town 2 turned out to be Ross.

In a nutshell...The Kalinka retreated with somewhat heavy losses and the crew attacked engineering, where traitors were planning to blow up the ship to ensure the colony was not established. After some time Albert(ico) lead a charge into Engineering, throwing stun grenades and whatnot. Jac (Grim) then arrived to help and Albert passed out a few times. Then Albert got lunch and discussed trade agreements and what not with the captain of the Sarlane. Coming to a mutually benefical agreement. Meanwhile Earth woke up trapped in the brig with the traitors. Grim eventually went to get him free, though the traitors rushed him and knocked him out. Earth walked out, did some repair work, then returned and was knocked out while trying to free Jac (If only someone had told all those hostage negotiator they could just walk in a grab the hostages, could have saved a lot of time). Jon(Paul) then helped subdue the traitors with sleeping gas. While all this was going on Peri (Nex) and Vasiliy (Nero) were fighting. I believe because Nero was being somewhat sexist and Peri took exception. Though I think you were there for that.

=( Oh and technically that is 3 Towns.

In a nutshell: There are a bunch of Races that will probably not be encountered, except in passing, since they are peaceloving and what have you...so the important races that are liable to play a big role: Andian typically stand over six feet tall, have two long, proportionately thick fingers and an opposable thumb on each hand, each tipped with talons, and a set of mandibles around their mouths. The most distinguishing feature of Andians is their metallic carapace, which is a result of their evolution. Andian features are Dinasauric. Often seen as rigid imperialists, the speice is barely tolerant of less advanced species. They are, however co-operative once a speices has proved its worth...as the Humans did during the First Contact War. The Kalinka are 8 foot tall, red, spider-like aliens with numerous appendages (possessing a regenerative ability), a psi-sensory cluster consisting of at least four eyes on the top of their heads, and pincer mandibles (with which they communicate). Like Earth spiders, they are born from egg sacs that are presumably filled with many eggs. Upon emerging from the eggs, the Kalinka hatchlings attack and consume each other in a cannibalistic frenzy known as the Birth Rite. As a species, they are psychopathically violent and religiously fanatical. The Armari are sentient/sapiant multicellular organisms with a body structure defined by rigid cell walls held in shape by internal turgor pressure, dependent primarily on photosynthesis for energy, with body structures like roots, leaves and stems very similar to those of terrestrial plants. They appear to have a basic structure of large green leaves surrounding a central stem, similar to that of an enlarged Earth bladderwort (complete with a stomach-like cavity for digesting animal food), with the addition of vinelike appendages acting as arms, rootlike appendages that detach from the ground and act as motile legs, and a blossom-like appendage containing sensory and vocal apparatus that acts as the analogue of a head. They have evolved their radiation-detecting senses to the point that they compare their deeply held aesthetic perceptions of the energy gained from different wavelengths of light to the human ability to taste food. For the most part a non-speices, they mainly concern themselves with with their homeplanet, with no full colonies even within their home system. The Dros look like bipedal, plated, hornless rhinocerii, with strong muscled arms, a thick, tough skin and a mean temper. The Dros talk tough and act even tougher, usually smoking cigars in their cockpits. They have little or no respect for anything aside from force, which they admire greatly. One could say that the Dros resemble an alien biker-gang from outer space. The Skap are, along with the Andians and Krator, the main council race. They are meta-marsupial, somewhat akin to dogs. They typically have brown fur, and have an extremely short gestation period. Because of this, the Skap can reproduce rapidly and age into adulthood within a few months, dying in just over four years. The race is known for the warrior creed, in addition to their self sacrificing nature...they often strap high powered bombs to their fighters and fly directly at the enemy in hopeless situations. The Skap gained power in the Council by their strict honour, willingness to fight most anything that threatens them or their allies. They are, like dogs, quite friendly in general and prone to rapid reactions. The Isha/Descar/Keeper of Keys.. The race has continued to develop along its three distinct pathes, with the Isha continuing to attempt to dominate everything and anything that isn't theirs...a tactic that has increasingly lead them to become a mercenary race. The Descar persuing peaceful relations and colonisation, as well as being Industrial King Pins in many systems...And the Keepers of Keys generally plodding along, discovering things and then making sure no one else discovers them. The Forstand, or Heat Aliens are little known, with their name coming from recovered Russian ships destroyed in various battles. The Flere are an aggressive warrior speices, dominating a large part of the outer rim, and making occassional incusions into local space. While largely nomadic the race has established numerous mega structures throughout all of known space which date well into the distant past. It has been suggested that the race has decayed from their former glory, or they have simply evolved on a planet controlled by the true makers. Whatever the case they lay claim to a large portion of the Universe and occassional fight to get it back. The Krator are your typical blue skin alien race that is mainly dominated by women. Though males are not so uncommon as to be a rarity. The Krator are vastly peaceful, relying on a mix of diplomacy, psionics and certain other talents to get things done. The race has an incredibly long life cycle, approximately five centuries, though some live well into their 700s. Together with the Andians and Skap they form the core of the Council, adding a warm face to the harsh imperialism and unflinching honour above all else. It should, however, be noted that they are not weak by any means and have shown themselves more than capable of crushing those who stand against them. Humans are divided into 1 super speices and 3 sub speices: Terrans-Super Speices, most humans of European Decent. 20% British-Sub Speices, covers most Humans that are not European. 60% Russian- Sub Speices, the humans who decended from Asians, mostly kill on sight. Less than 10% Drake- Sub Speices, seemingly random births/clones. Initially exterminated, eventually accepted as a sub speicies. 10% Total Humans: 14 Billion. Over the course of the last 150 years the Terrans have cloned themselves, made men carry children, and generally tried to increase their share of the population, and ensure pure breeds by sticking genetic markers next to certain racial traits...However the British have easily maintained their lead (2,000 verses 50 Million). The various efforts to grow really fast resulted in a less than stable genetic code and the efforts were stopped some fifty years ago, and the core is restablising with variation.

In the wake of the Kalinka attack on the Terran Super Freighter, Sarlane, the Terran Federation have demanded reperations from the Kalinka homeworld. Dogar Gava has denied any involvement in the attack and has instead levelled the blame at extremists in both the Terran Empire and the Kalinka Federation, who demand full independance from their respective empires. Both empires have launched internal inquiries in to these rebels, with the Terran Empire resolving the issue by killing some 30 rebels apprehended by the Colonial Government, lead by the Illustrious Grand Marshall Albert Fisher. The Colonial team have however been accused to looting the ship for their personal ends, many of these accusations have been ignored in light of the fact that many of the weapons were returned, or later paid for, and the ship was under attack at the time. The only exception to this has been that of Peritus Hepherian, who has been accused of the murder of two Armoury Guards. The trial will take place up Astarian Law, which has yet to be written. The families of the Guards have made a formal complaint and are currently awaiting trial for Hidious Dissent. The New Terran Colony on Astare 4 is set to be the largest single expansion colonisation effort undertaken by the Terran Empire to date, with over half a million colonists and a hundred Thousand kT of raw resources assigned to it. Elsewhere the Andian Government has denied claims by the Terran Federation that they destroyed the starship Redoubt outside of the Grissom System. Further investigation by the Council has indicated it was the work of British Seperatists, tired of living under the boot-heel of the Terran Empire. This is just the latest in a long line of supposed British attempts to gain freedom from the Terran Empire.

Yeah, I will have them for Monday if they are not ready today.

Prices are almost finalised. The only change is the farm prices are divided by 10(I am making the edit now, just in case anyone has already seen it and gets confused) I will draw up some example cards.

14 hours time. 8pm GMT. Session. Please remember that starting on a ship requires you to actually have a ship prepared...You do not have to design the ship yourself, but you do need to at least ok it. This is a reminder for Moday's session, since todays session will take place on the Sarlane as a 'Get to know how to use your character proficently, while Archi readjusts to typing sentences in less than a second  I will remind you (since no one seems to remember the back story) that you have been detained due to their being a Psionic in your midst, who may or may not be registered. In any event the Captain, Captain Volta, may be a valuable ally to have, and killing her will, most probably, get you flushed out an airlock and perma-killed. Depending on how you manage to get yourself killed you may also be perma-banned...since deciding you are Ethan Hunt on a mission to kill everyone you are introduced to will just screw up the game. You can, optionally, semi-perma-kill each other. You must announce your intentions and the kill only lasts for one session. If the other person is not on then you cannot try to kill them...

Certainly true. Though in many ways today is looking at dog that bites someone and saying 'It was a good think they didn't feed it or it would be even more vicious'. You can't build a system based on mutual distrust and expect everyone to trust one and other. Users don't trust the Mods because the Mods do silly things. Mods don't trust the Users because the Users do silly things. It also doesn't help that the traditional responce from the mods is: 'You have violated the rules, this is the rule you have violated, read the rules again.' And no one is allowed to discuss any mod action. It also doesn't help that some people intentionally try to cause arguments simply because it is funny. People need to start earning trust and showing respect...no point being the perfect user if one day you get an impersonal 'You have violated the rules' pm.

True...But why is that? What it needs is moderators and users who actually give a dime to defend their forums from outside influences... The Tavern started out with one game, Hegemony, which was all about fighting for yourself and rejecting what everyone else said...Thats pretty much the defination of trolling...And yet, if we are the ONLY forum that would work as a community what does that say? Only trolls can work together? So what I am saying is that the Tavern didn't just magic itself into being...decisions were made...There was a Moderator(me) who took an interest, and users(you guys) who were guarded, but let them in. I was let in because I was similar to what was already there...I respected people's choices and tried to accommodate them as best I could...I didn't become a nodding yesman and I didn't turn into Dr No...and because of that I could moderate and people could accept that moderation. The problems arise when other people, users or whoever, get involved who are not respected, and do not try to earn respect, but just assume that it will be given automatically. In times gone past people accepted that Moderators, that Admin, deserved their respect...but now, 10 something years down the line, there is a large population who don't give too hoots about who someone is, if they disagree they angrily state it. In many ways mirroring so many other social systems where the disorganised masses rise up against the elites...what form that will take...I don't know...but eventually these things have a habit of resolving themselves. Life...as they say...goes on.

Of course, my solution would be to create a poll for each forum, and allow each forum to decide whether they wanted harsh rules, lax rules or whatever...within a general frame work...and then assign the moderators based on that-their personal preferences. Course it would have to be a public poll, and would probably require someone to sit down and weed through the votes, only counting those who were actually involved in the forum on a decent level. Then you get into the mire of 'who can decide that', 'lets have a vote', 'no, wait, we need an arbiter'. Personally, the obvious solution is to try it for a month, hold another poll, with a different arbiter, and see if people are happy or not.

I don't agree on lock/unlock your own threads...mainly because locking/unlocking is rarely done and not really that important....I mean the last three games where people have said 'DO NOT POST' people have not posted. Where as other times people could just bump a thread like 'There has been a study done on black people and it has been shown they are less intelligent' and only allow people who agree with them to post. (the study is real, by the by) Personally we had a fairly good system going on here...But its about finding a mod that people accept as a mod, can't do that out in the big wide forum. And, of course, changing the rules would require a total change over in the Moderation/Admin team...so realistically, nothing will change.

Case closed? Also: http://forum.tip.it/forum-220/announcement-85-evaluate-tipits-moderation/ Banning people for posting on a topic they advertised for people to post on.... I think the various arguements between Tavern and Admin show two things: 1) There are some times good reasons behind extensive moderation. 2) Extensive moderation causes people to quit and people to get mad. Its about finding a balance...giving people the ability to respond as neccessary, but not to respond to EVERY infraction with 'YOU MUST OBEY THE RULES OR ELSE YOU WILL BE DESTROYED'

An sT is equal to approximately 1 pixal on the map: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12603519/Space2/Colony_Map.html Clicking on the map will take you to the colony page, and from there you are free to explore the very limited site I currently have up. This should change over time.
