  1. I look at it like this - as long as the seller recognizes that Jagex is the intellectual owner of the property, and not him/her, than it is fine. So long as it is stated in the auction that Jagex is the owner of the item(s). In fact, Jagex could capitalize off of in-game services for money. Some would argue that "it takes the fun away" - but if people have the money and are willing to spend it, why should Jagex turn them down? Jagex should encourage the market, not seek to destroy it. For instance, UO (Ultima Online) offers in-game services to their players for money. It's a neat idea, and works to generate extra revenue. Granted, there are limits that UO sets on their services, you can't just buy your way to the top.
  2. While this may be true - what do you think exists out there in the real world? Granted, the younger players may not need to be exposed to the cheating, scamming, lying, etc. but it is the responsibility of the parent to educate themselves and the children about the game, and then assess whether or not the child is old/mature enough to play. Again I would like to reiterate that children as young as five playing are playing because their parents allow it - the responsibility falls on the parent. And, in my opinion, Jagex has been greatly increasing security measures - almost too much in my opinion. Yeah, you get angry, but like I said earlier - these are things we'll be exposed to out "in the real world." And as for killed by another player, that's just part of the game - sorry about your luck. Sorry, but I don't see how "noob" is psychologically damaging to younger players (that seems to be the aim of this article). So some kids run into bad people - we must now say "a large percentage" are bad? I wonder where this person is coming up with their "facts." And as for kids learning it, I was only 11 when I played RuneScape... I've been scammed many a time, and I haven't learned that behavior. And that's different in any way to a normal day in school? More stupid generalizations... I think I'm going to be repeating myself here on, they've sort of beat the dog dead... their points are redundant and not solid, to say the least. *scratches head* so this makes it a bad environment? ... Okay, I can't read anymore. I had planned on writing a critical analysis of every objectionable (by my standards) piece within this article, but this person is continually making the same points over and over again. So here it is folks, the bottom line: You as the player are responsible to educate yourself about the game, and make a decision on whether you are mature or old enough to play it. If you are not able to make that decision, then it is your parents' responsibility. If you can't handle it, don't play... It's as simple as that.
  3. Anyone here consider that Jagex may be "phasing out" PKing. Or perhaps they will give Pking an overhaul or something in the future?
  4. F2P is like a trial version of RuneScape. Lucky for those F2Pers out there, the trial version of RuneScape does not expire and is very in depth (compared to other trials of other games). And because F2P does not give Jagex the $5 a month as the members do, no, they shouldn't receive many updates. The emphasis is on "many" because I think a few updates a year (maybe 3 or 4) is perfectly fine and won't upset anyone. Think of the F2Pers as potential customers, because that's basically what they are, and going along with that thought it is nice to cater slightly to, or at least show you care about those potential customers. A few updates a year, no biggie!
  5. Use bold and italics, perhaps some colors as well. I would also add some pictures (not many, just a few - for posterity). And, it's been said before, but I feel I must stress it - spell check! and use correct (or better) grammar.
  6. So I read through some of the posts and I suppose I have a bit of a change of heart. Being lured does not mean you are stupid. I just want to clear that up. If someone offered to buy all of your items (and it wasn't for a rediculous amount of money) you'd probably go. The one time I was lured I went to a guy who claimed he was powerwoodcutting across the bridge in Edgeville, I thought "Oh, it's not a big deal... and it's only level 1 Wildy if I do end up going in there." Well, I was slightly more naive then, and I went - got killed, lost 60k pure ess (when they are ~90 ea). I was just eager to sell my items was all. But the bigger point is that I was deceived. The player lied to me (he was actually level 56, some 40 levels lower than I was, but he had a lvl 97 friend waiting to log-in at the exact spot I was standing). Luring = Deception, which is against Jagex's Rule #2. It doesn't get any more clear than that, so no, it is not right to lure. Just because we have the ability do something doesn't mean we should.
  7. Kuods to the Tip.it people who made this happen. It must've taken some long and exhausting word to code. You should definately feel proud!
  8. I'm going for a similar goal. I need 71.6k iron to make 85 mining, and I was going to mine around 700 a day starting on March 5th to get to 85 mining by summer.
  9. I would say it's poor sportsmanship and there's not much honor in it, but I wouldn't call it cheating. It tends to ruin the game for others. And the thing about it is most players on the team who is not holding complain and groan about the other team holding, but if their team is the one holding, they are prefectly fine with it.
  10. It depends: If you use, say, the magic door on Entrana that teleports you into 34 wilderness to lure someone, yeah, that's wrong. But if you are taking someone out to the wilderness directly, then that is their issue, not yours, and if they are stupid enough to follow you - kudos to you! They deserve to be taught a harsh lesson on what not to do. BEWARE of Edgeville trading. If you MUST trade in Edgeville, DO NOT leave the bank!
  11. While I think quests are one of the most important elements in RuneScape, it is certainly a skill-based game, where you repetitively click millions of times, advancing your levels, working for wealth. But Quests are an important part of RuneScape, and generally offer a refreshing break from the monotomy of skilling.
  12. What you have to understand is that Jagex is a business. They aren't doing this for fun, they are doing this for profit*. The sole goal is to create a game that players will enjoy, but get the players' money in the process. With that in mind, the idea to give updates to F2P (which exists as a great trial version for the real game) is abusrd. Jagex isn't stupid, they know how to run their business. Like I said before, F2P is only a trial - and F2Pers should consider themselves lucky that they have what they have, most online game trials are extremely limited. Bottom line - pay up or shut up (sorry if that sounds harsh, but that's how it is). *Not to make Jagex out to be evil or anything.
  13. You did clap right? Stupid question it sounds, but I got one similar to these and I just stood there for a few minutes before realizing it said "Wave."
  14. I happened to be walking in the wilderness and saw a rather large stack of coins. I thought to myself "Ah, it's probably only a couple hundred coins." To my amazement there was 750k on the ground. No clue (I can only speculate that it was a lure gone wrong) as to how it got there, but it was quite a day!
  15. Aha! No more refreshing for World 2 (or using those pesky 3rd party clients that Jagex seems hell-bent on destroying).
  16. No xp share button, no everyone can see drops button IMHO. I think that gives the "Party Leader" too much power. The general idea is great though! Pking trips would be so much more fun, it would breathe life into the wilderness.
  17. Basically, I use Modern (normal) magic for a few reasons. 1) Changing the magics is annoying. It's not that it's hard or anything, it's just always so far out of the way. 2) Ancients cost WAY too much (at least for now) 3) Lunar teleports are terrible 4) There are little/no offensive lunar spells 5) I don't use many ancients teleports
  18. So, in about an hour and 15 minutes I got around 70k xp. Not too bad I'd say.
  19. Although a great idea, you're beginning to get way too complicated with it.
  20. So I suppose there's my situation: I HATE mining, smithing, and crafting... yet those are the three skills I want into the 80s and 90s the most. Perhaps I will try mining some gold, the coal and iron thing just doesn't cut it for me.
  21. no just better strenght bonus Quite a bit better, actually ^^
  22. Just a forewarning, Fletching is a very tedious and repetitive skill. You'll want to take periodic breaks from RuneScape to keep your sanity.
  23. The whip is amazingly fast defense and attack xp, the scimmy is great for strength.
  24. The stats are considerably better on a Mystic staff than on a regular Battlestaff. Let's compare: Regular Battlestaff Attack Stab 7 Slash -1 Crush 28 Magic 10 Range 0 Defense Stab 2 Slash 3 Crush 1 Magic 10 Range 0 Other Strength 35 Prayer 0 Mystic Battlestaff Attack Stab 10 Slash -1 Crush 40 Magic 10 Range 0 Defense Stab 2 Slash 3 Crush 1 Magic 10 Range 0 Other Strength 50 Prayer 0
  25. I would use the money to 99. Yeah, rares show off your wealth, but in my opinion skills come first. After you get the high skills come the money to get the rares.
