Better late than never. We are saying the same thing. We plan to align the trainees with the forum they post to most. - Ard

We recognize that some of the specialty forums need moderators who are most familiar with the content and frequent posters. We've customized groups for forums like Off Topic and The Gallery for that very reason. The Trainee positions will expand that concept by assigning moderators to categories/forums like Rants, Clans and Player Killing (along with related subforums) if potential users have applied. By asking for volunteers to moderate very specific forums they most use, we can fill in some of these gaps. One of the overall goals of the Moderator Applications is to get new moderators who WANT to moderate the forums they use the most and will be active. By asking for volunteers, we're taking the guesswork out of "do you want to and have the time to moderate" question that sometimes isn't answered until after a user is already doing the job. It's an addition to the "hiring process" (if you will) that we are hoping proves to be beneficial. We're not replacing the "being asked" method, we're simply adding a new method to the mix in order to fill in the gaps. - Ard

My turn to drop in my two-cents worth. Regarding Time-Zone Coverage I agree that we need to balance out the coverage of moderators for the variety of time zones. We are taking this into consideration with the moderator applications and are always on the lookout for potential active users who are in some of the least-covered zones. Regarding Perceived Staff Activity I will say from personal experience that after performing daily moderator duties I often don't have time to post casually. I will say that if a moderator is active with moderator duties, it probably takes away from their casual posting frequency. Regarding Crew Having Moderator Permissions Crew members are committed to the website. They have enough work to do and we need them focused on the website. The last thing we want to do is give them more work. As For Monitoring Moderator Activity It is a constant effort but please realize that we must respect that everyone has a life outside of these forums. Our staff members are doing their duties here voluntarily. I can appreciate the initial intention of this thread but bickering about what constitutes an "active moderator" really isn't constructive. - Ard

Many of us die trying to do this. Isn't a goal or achievement. - Ard -
They don't have the "ability" to lock their own threads. Author-requests for locks however, are honored by staff in most cases. - Ard

I'm a hybrid, of sorts...but here is some history of a portion of my being... The Clan MacGregor or Gregor is a Highland Scottish clan. Motto: 'S rioghal mo dhream (Royal is my race) Slogan/Battle Cry: Ard Choille Clan members were called "Children of the Mist" as they were said to be able to disappear into the Highland fog at will. MacGregor History The MacGregor's motto 'My blood is royal' is their claim to royal descent. The clan were one of the most famous victims of the Clan Campbell's expansionism. It held lands in Glenstrae, Glenlochy and Glenorchy. With the capture of Iain MacGregor in 1296, his property was passed to the Campbell Clan. They were pushed further into Glenstrae. From then on began the clan's survival as an independent tribe with the Campbells setting up rival line to Gregor MacGregor. After a series of incidents the entire clan had been outlawed by 1604 and it became a capital offence to bear their name. They had become the 'Children of the Mist'. The persecution ended in 1774. General John Murray of Lanark was appointed chief and re-established the clan
