I've been awake for nearly 50 hours straight now, and I'm listening to the Best of Beethoven to keep me up. -.- The Eroica Symphony by Beethoven.

That actually doesn't fix anything. The delete key deletes text to the right of the cursor while the backspace deletes to the left. Two entirely different (yet very useful once you learn it) functions. :P A bit of quick Googling turned up a setting that may be the cause. I have Word 2003 and was able to reproduce what I think is happening. In Tools > Options > Edit Tab, make sure "Typing Replaces Selection" is checked. Unchecking it in my settings caused exactly what you describe and may be your problem. That was it. :D Thank you very much. I have no clue how that got unchecked. I haven't been to that setting in years. Maybe I accidentally hit the keyboard shortcut for it or something? But I don't even think there is one.

Yeah, I figured this suggestion was coming. I'm just really used to using backspace because that's what I've been using for around the last 10 years. I rarely remember to use the delete key, and would rather just fix my backspace problem. I'm sure there is a way to. :|

So I open up Microsoft Word last week, and I notice something very strange. If I highlight text, and hit backspace, the text does not delete. Instead, my cursor just goes to the beginning of the highlighted portion. I can backspace just fine (as in character by character) but if I highlight and then backspace, nothing. If I highlight and hit delete, then it gets rid of it just like it's supposed to. I didn't change any settings or anything, so I don't know what's up. I tried to just deal with it and was kind of hoping it would just go away after restarting my computer a few times or something, but it's not. Now with finals coming up, I'm editing a long paper and it's getting really really annoying not being able to take out large chunks of text at a time. I have to just hold backspace down to delete it all. :wall: Anyone know what to do? It's Microsoft Word 2003 by the way. Thanks.

Heh, I know it may seem like I'm being a bit crazy, but I really like to research my stuff before I buy them; I'm not one to spend my money on just anything. Mainly because I don't have so much to go around. :P Looking over everything, it seems my two best bets are the Shure E2C and the Sennheiser CX300. They both seem to be the ideal headphones for me. Half jokingly, I put in "shure e2c vs. sennheiser cx300" into google and to my surprise, I found a whole bunch of direct matches. Apparently I'm not the only one to be torn between the two and they are frequently compared to each other. Although both are hailed as very good for their price range (and even against more expensive ones), there are very mixed reviews about which is better. The CX300 is slightly less sound-isolating but has a deep bass, that most people say is better than the E2C but a bunch say that the E2C has it perfect and the CX300 overdoes it. If anyone has any personal experience with either they could share, that'd be great. I just wish I could try both before I decide.

I am looking into getting a pair of headphones for my mp3 player (iPod) that I will soon get and was wondering if anyone here could recommend one that suits my needs, since I know next to nothing about them. What I do know is that the stock iPod headphones and the crappy, cheap Sony ones I have are just not going to cut it. What I am looking for are those ear-canal headphones/in-ear monitors. Those are the most convenient to carry, with some of the best sound quality available. They also fit very well. The most important parameter would be my budget. Looking for and reading about them for the past day or two has made me realize that the really good ones run extremely expensive, into the hundreds and thousands of dollars. My budget is around 35 to 40 dollars, so I understand that I will not be able to get crazy good ones, but I'm sure there are headphones out there that are decent and in that price range (I hope...) Also, I will be using them on the New York City subway and New Jersey trains and other loud places, so external noise-reduction would be a great plus. I've heard that the Apple in-ear headphones are not bad from a few friends of mine, but I've never really tried them out for very long. They are $40 normally, but seem to be going for $20, so that's definitely a plus. Apple in-ear headphones I've been reading about a lot of good things about the Sennheiser brand. Their CX300 headphones seem to be one of the best values for the price. I see them a lot for 70 or 80 dollars in some places, but amazon.com has them for $38 and a third-party seller (with a very good rating) is selling a new pair for as low as $27. :? Sennheiser CX300 Another couple people recommended the Zune Premium Earphones to me today so I decided to check them out. There are a lot of mixed reviews though. They are 20 to 30 dollars so that's great, I just don't want them to be garbage. I did not see anything wrong with it either, but I am not great at reading them. I reverted back to a system restore point earlier this week and they seem to be gone. Haven't had one in hours. Hopefully they are gone permanently. :D

I have tried playing the other files of the same format, no luck. I actually just watched a video two days ago just fine that won't show video now. I deleted the preferences folder and rebooted, that didn't help. I went to dxdiag and did the "directraw" and "direct3D" tests (I assume those are the video tests?) and both came out fine. :?

For some reason, my VLC player will play audio but no video. I installed it and reinstalled, still no luck. I then tried the same video files on Media Player Classic, and that won't work either, so apparently it's not a VLC problem. Anyone know what can be wrong? VLC has never given me a problem before, and it's supposed to have pretty much every codec already. I don't understand why movies that I have been able to play before have stopped working. Any help is greatly appreciated.

[EDIT] Update p.2 (14 magic) Yep, it's time. As many of you may or may not know, I had my topic up on the Rate This board showing my way to 99 attack, strength, defense, and hits with 1 magic and 1 prayer. I achieved that during the first few days of July. In fact, I got my attack, defense, and strength to 99 all in the same instant on the same hit, but unfortunately, only the attack advancement message showed. -.- My RSC goal had finally been complete. If you read my previous topic, you'd know I didn't do this to be the ultimate staker or some pker or whatever. Without going into a fairly lengthy explanation like I did last time, I did it for my own reasons and just a sense of nostalgia and accomplishment. I started the other topic when my stats were around 90ish, almost ready to get my magic and prayer up right then and there. But due to a lot of people telling me (and in some cases, demanding) not to get it up, and some serious reconsideration on my part, I decided to finish the goal I set out the first day I created Dymed. And I'm glad I did. I realize now in hindsight that I would have really regretted getting my prayer and magic up without maxing melee first. So, I finally did it. Had some fun with it. Now, it's time to move on. After much debate with myself in my head, I've decided to go impure. Unlike last time, I know that I won't regret doing this. Yes, it's nice to be unique. Yes, it's nice to get the virtual head turns and the "WTF" from people amazed at my combat level and stats. It even makes me slightly chuckle at times, like when this girl came up to me and told me she had reported me for hacking the high scores and not making my magic and prayer level show up. : But I made my decision that it was time to let it go. I finished what I set out to do, and I am happy. Also, not having magic nor prayer keeps me from doing a lot of things I'd like to do, like Kalphite Queen trips and Barrows and stuff. I also don't play Runescape all that much anymore, and I hope to make it even less (hopefully to the point where I practically quit) in the next month or so because I'll be going to medical school. Having this stash also helped in nudging me into going impure. along with That is mid-80s magic level and 71 prayer banked. When I level, I level in style. 8-) However, just having the runes and the bones isn't enough. I am one of the most efficient people you will ever meet, so I can't stand doing things without doing it at the best/fastest way possible. So I need to get Ahrim's, Mystic robes, Seer's ring, etc. I also need to get some items to alch, which brings us to our next picture. All those sapphire, emeralds, and rubies will be crafted into amulets, which I will then use as alching material. Making these amulets is what I'm up to now. My limited time and budget doesn't help any of this, since a few days will be spent only making money. I hope to be well on my way though by the time medical school starts at the end of this month. I'll also needs lots and lots of buckets since I want to get all my bones ready before I ecto them all at once. Any donations of buckets would be greatly appreciated. :D I'll be doing magic before I start prayer, but just to get things underway and not look back, I'm getting my first prayer level before doing anything.
