Utilitarianism
I believe in utilitarianism to a certain point, and I can see where it comes from, but I am not a complete believer of that philosophy. I just don't think that you can always quanitfy morality/happiness. Morality is a very subjective and circumstantial issue; I don't believe that there can ever be an end-all-be-all approach to it. Everyone has a diferent idea of what's right and what's wrong and new types of ethical dilemmas are always coming up, especially as technology and science advance as fast as they are. However, it definitely has it's uses sometimes. Everyone makes utilitarian decisions without even realizing it in everday life. It's when you start applying it to life on a larger scale and to ethically controversial issues that it becomes tricky.

NBA Playoffs time!
Yes, it is used a lot, but it is also called fairly often. Also, they are usually more discreet than what LeBron did. And just because it makes it more entertaining doesn't mean it should be ignored, at least not when it's so blatant like that. Besides, if it's up to the refs to make the game more entertaining, then there should be no argument over whether Nash called time-out or not. Barring biased Lakers and Suns fans, people would much rather see a dramatic game winning shot by Kobe Bryant than someone on the Suns inbound the ball and hold it for a win. It was definitely more entertaining this way. :P I saw Barkley say that too (TNT, yay). But I think he was talking about LeBron in that case, not Nash. Either way, it's true. It shouldn't be, but it is and there isn't much that can be done about it. :? About LeBron though, I agree. I see him becoming the best player in the NBA within the next 5 seasons. I'd even go so far as to say he'll become the next Jordan. :o

NBA Playoffs time!
I'm not a Lakers fan or anything, but I do have them winning this series. About the fouling of Nash in overtime, I don't think there was one. It was a pretty physical play, but from all the replays I've seen it looks clean. Nash himself said that he wasn't fouled. And about the time-out, that's a very tough call. Even after all the replays from so many different angles, it's hard to tell whether Nash actually signaled time. He was definitely screaming it, but that doesn't matter. One thing for certain, he was most definitely not clearly calling time-out. And even if he was, the only angle to be sure about it was from the stands as there were players around him on every other side. I am pretty critical of refs myself, but I don't think they had much choice on this one. Acknowledging a time-out requires that they clearly see the signal, and there was no way you could expect them to have done that in this scenario. Even with all the talk about Kobe and whether he's a ballhog or whatever, no one can deny that he is one of the greatest players to ever play basketball. His personal life is his personal life, and whether you like him as a person is a different story. He is the single best player in the NBA right now. And in this series, the Lakers are really playing like a team; Kobe isn't the only name on the statsheets. They may be getting some lucky calls, but meh, that's just how it goes sometimes. I haven't seen anything blatantly in their favor yet though. But you want to talk about bad calls, anyone see game 3 of the Cavs-Wizards series? Wow, what a travel by Lebron James in his game-winning drive. :P

Fire Cape with 45 Defense?
Blood barrage, 43 prayer, and a lot of cash to spend. That's all you need to get the fire cape.

Standardized Testing - What do you think?
I think that most standardized tests are regulated by the government, at least here in the US. Taking classes for the SAT is completely unnecessary. It's a waste of money. If you have the money to waste though, go right ahead, it'll definitely help, but it's not worth it at all. To do well, all you need is the self-motivation. The problem is, most kids need to be ordered by a teacher or something of the sort before they start preparing and studying. I have tutored for the SAT for the past couple years now, and I've come across a lot of different types of kids. Some definitely need the help of an actual, live person but many don't. However, none of them have ever needed one of those ridiculously expensive classes. If you have the self-motivation to study on your own and look things up and help yourself, the resources are out there. You just have to find them. You need to be willing to find things online, go to the library, Barnes and Noble, wherever. So much review material is free. At worst hire a tutor, don't go to the Princeton Review or Kaplan and let them rob you. :P As for the percentiles, you need to understand that they take into account all the students in all of America. Even the ones that cut class everyday and are going into community colleges where the only requirement is that you have a pulse. The percentiles are statistically accurate, but the interpretation of them are usually very skewed. Getting somehwere in the the 97th or 98th percentile is really not as good as it seems (still something to be proud of though), when you start comparing the people who apply to top colleges and such instead of the country as a whole.

Do You like your Stealth? (baseball bat:$)
I have never actually used it, so I don't have an opinion to offer on that subject or anything, but I just so happened to be reading about the Stealth a few days ago and here is a cheaper one. :P http://www.cheapbats.com/product_info.p ... cts_id=407 $214.95 for a -3 2006 Easton Steatlh. $300 retail seems a bit high, although that site does have cheap items (as the name suggests :P).

NBA Playoffs time!
Very close. The Suns @ Lakers game was pretty close too. Biggest lead by either team was 8 points. And then of course, there was the dramatic Spurs @ Kings game. Kevin Martin evading Tim Duncan and driving to the basket for the biggest shot of his life as time expired to give the Kings the 94-93 win. Amazing games so far. :D

Range difference...
I can confirm a higher max hit with Accurate over Rapid. However, it's still better exp per time to be fighting on Rapid. And the max hit only raises by one, and I'm pretty sure only on certain levels, not always.

Anyone catch Wade last night? That kid is just ridiculous. Especially in the fourth quarter, those two blocks out of nowhere. And his floaters. His game is just so pretty. :P

United 93 - Discussion about it...
Now that's just ignorant. Using that weak arguement, all documentaries, memorials, books, movies, songs, paintings, basically any form of art or media imaginable, that are centered around tragic events should be banned. Basically all of the History Channel would go off air and much of most libraries and museums would be cleared out. I don't know if you were just playing the devil's advocate, but that's just ridiculous.

RuneScape ignore list now working like AIM block list?
Don't bother testing it, it's true. You don't see a person as online if he has you on his ignore list and has private chat set to "friends". If he has you on the ignore list but private chat set to "on", then you will see him as online but he won't get any of your messages. And of course, if he has it set to "off", then he'll be offline to everyone. This is nothing new though. Been like that for as long as I can remember I'm pretty sure. I never use the ignore list anyway. Never have and never will.

Anybody else anal about organizing items while training?
My inner OCD definitely comes out when I play Runescape. I try keeping my bank organized, and I do for the most part, but it ends up getting unorganized near the end where rows of miscellaneous items are and things I withdraw often that I do not have two of. Although I cringe a lot when I see it, it doesn't bother me too too much because I only use the bank for a few seconds at a time so I don't see my mess much. However, when it comes to the inventory and training, totally different story since I stare at it quite often. I constantly rearrange it to make it look nice and organized.

NBA Playoffs time!
The arguement over what MVP actually means boils down to two things: should the MVP go to someone who is good but from a bad team or should the MVP go to someone who is good and is on a good team. If you believe the former, Kobe Bryant is probably the most talented, single player in the NBA right now. But the Lakers aren't that good so a lot of people say he shouldn't get it. A good player for a good team who was consistent in both the first and second half of the season is Nowitski. Billups is another contender, but he cooled down in the second half. Dirk was very efficient both halves.

NBA Playoffs time!
Well, with the Lakers' victory over the Hornets tonight, the playoff brackets have officially been set. Sixteen teams, one trophy. Here are my picks: That's a mix between what I want to happen and what I think will happen (but mainly what I think will happen.) I think I was too nice in some cases with the amount of games each series will be, mainly because I'd like them to play out like that so they are more exciting. :D One definite upset in the first round that is very possible is the Pacers over the Nets. Another is the Clippers over the Nuggets. I think a lot of teams will use their playoff experience to win the round, especially the Lakers over the Suns. In the end, it should definitely be Spurs vs. Pistons. That'll be a tough match that could go either way, but the Pistons are just too effecient. The depth and versatility of that team is amazing. I say Pistons over the Spurs in 6 for the championship. Fill out your own and post them. Remember to put the amount of games you think each series will be. That's the truly hard part. :D

You NEVER keep stackable items when you die. Ever. Even if it's your only item, you don't keep it. So don't bother protecting notes. It won't work.

on average in rs how many hours a day/week/month do u play?
Bah, lacrosse is the best sport. Ever. :D I could go on for hours about lacrosse, but I'll stop myself there. :P It's hard to say how much I average per day or even per week, as it's pretty erratic, but I'd say per month I play about 40 hours. Comes out to a little over an hour per day.

Animals - Do they have rights?
A WHOLE chicken? Wow, thats quite a challenge. Chicken curry for me tonight. :D ~Jimmie Not just a chicken, a chicken raised in a 30 by 30 cm space just to get killed for my needs. Ah yes, the best kind. I sometimes prefer mine 25 by 25 though.

Anyone else having problems with gmail?
So I go to http://www.gmail.com after coming home from class today and it takes me to the login page. I have it set to remember me, but every two weeks I have to log back in, so I figure no biggie. I put my username and password in, click "sign in', and the login page reloads. No error message, nothing. The exact same page, and address. So I try it again. Same thing. I keep trying this over the course of about 2 hours, and the same thing keeps happening. To test it out, I purposely put a fake name and password in, and it appropriately said that my username and password do not match. So I tried it for real again, and once again, I get the login page. This is getting to be a real bother now as I really need to sign into my account for some important stuff. Does anyone know what's wrong or how to fix it? :(
