I'd be up for this, could always use more people to talk to, especially at odd hours when everyone is asleep. :D

A Festivus for the rest of us! Merry Christmas everyone! :D

Hey socc masta, I remember you too. Glad to see you're still around. :D So I log onto Runescape and within my first 5 minutes on, I get this: And there are my stats. I forgot that I'm 1 away from 1400 total, so I am going to get on that. I might just do slayer for it, but I'm not sure yet. Thinking of what to do now. I would like some of those new items like the dark bow and god swords and what not, but they're all out of my price range. :(

Yes it should... What right do the parents have to impose their will on the child's entire life? Maybe this was necessary in ancient times when it'd be necessary to unite families due to financial struggling, debts/other reasons, I don't see why it should be allowed nowadays. Everyone has the right to decide about their own life, you aren't your parents' slave. Jeez, some harsh opinions on arranged marriages here. You guys should know that not every arranged marriage is some barbaric ritual. I will most likely get an arranged marriage and it's not something that upsets me; I'm actually looking forward to it in a way. I am not being forced into one, I want to get one if I have to. If I don't find someone in the next 7 or 8 years tops (I'll be 21 in 2 days), I'll be getting an arranged marriage. First, let me explain how arranged marriages work, at least in my culture (Indian). The parents of the two partners get together and set up a meeting of the potential couple-to-be. The two then meet and hang out and get to know each other. This typically takes around a week. Many times, the families were already friends and so the two of them know each other already. If they feel they are not compatible, the parents try and find another. If they feel they are, then great. So as you can see, I am not quite being forced into a guy's bed and told to bear his children. I don't see why an arranged marriage is so bad, especially considering the outlook on "love marriages" here in the United States. What is it, something like 55% of all marriages end up in a divorce? That's crazy. I know plenty of people in arranged marriages, and not one of them is divorced, and they all seem to be very happy. I think a major reason of why love marriages fail is because of the terrible relationship that the two families have with each other. The partners may initially love each other and everything can be great, but if the support of the family isn't there, I don't see it working out in most cases. In an arranged marriage, we would make it work. Our families will be so closely tied together and would have such a close bond, that there is a very little chance of it going badly. Family is a huge, huge part of Indian culture and it's very important that they be involved in the marriage process and thereafter. It all depends on the individual's mindset. If I thought an arranged marriage was a terrible thing or didn't think it would work out, then of course I'd be devastated at the thought of getting one. But I don't. And it's because of the culture that I've been brought up in and the values that have been instilled in me. My parents mean the world to me. I am not their slave, but I do (willingly) strive to make them happy in any way I can. These are the people that gave me life, I do believe that they should have quite a strong say in what goes on in it. They fed me, clothed me, housed me, took care of me, and showed me unconditional love. That is something I will never, ever be able to pay back to them. The least I could do is make them happy and proud. Almost everything I do in my life, a major motivating factor is making my parents proud of me. I live for them, and really, they live for me too. It's a very ideal situation I have going on here, and for that I feel I am blessed. They don't mind if I find someone myself, and I don't mind getting an arranged marriage if that doesn't come soon enough. Besides, by that time I will be a doctor, so all the top men will be opened up for me. 8-) Now all I have to do is learn how to cook...

Yeah, that's the first thing that stood out to me too. Seems like it was just an attempt to downplay the situation. But 30 to 40 people in any kind of house party is a huge number, no matter how "cool" you are, and bound to get very loud. Not enough details there to know for sure, but it seems like the neighbor was justified in being angry and it was late at night. And man, did you and your friend really start roughhousing with a senior citizen?

Hey guys. I haven't played Runescape in over a year now, but I think I'll give it a go for the next month or so. If any of you still remember me, I'm the noob who went to 99 attack, strength, defense, and hits with 1 prayer and 1 magic (113 combat). I even got attack, strength, and defense to 99 on the same hit. The topic of me getting them all to 99 at the same time looks like it got deleted (and I really liked what I wrote in that one too :( ), but the topic I made of me getting magic is still here from August 2006. Haha, reading that thread over now, I see that I said I would post pics later that day and then left the topic, because I kind of just stopped playing. Anyway, my first term of medical school just ended and I have a bit of time to just relax for a little while (and believe me, after 14 weeks of medical school and a week of 6 hour shelf exams, you definitely need it...) and I wanted to see what's up. So for anyone who does remember me, add me back! Even if you don't have a clue and want another buddy to talk to, drop me a line as well. It seems like Runescape has really gotten a total revamp, and maaad things have changed. So many new crazy items, weapons, and armor. Prices for everything have changed as well, as expected. And what's this I hear about no more wilderness? And why is everyone complaining about this trading update? From what I gather, trades can't be unbalanced by more than 3k. Is this rule in effect yet, or is it happening January 1st as someone mentioned to me. How does this work with items that aren't sold in stores/items that players have given values (such as rares, monster drop only, etc.)? I am probably going to need a lot of questions answered (like "what's this cost?" and "ooo, what's this thing do?") and if any of you would like to help me get reacquainted with the game, I'd very much appreciate it. Or even if you're bored and just want to talk to me about whatever. :D (If not on Runescape, my MSN also works) I'll be going to bed now and getting members in the morning or afternoon sometime. Hopefully some familiar faces post here or drop me a line, and some new ones too. : I think this is the right forum to post this in? I haven't been on tip.it almost as long as I haven't been on Runescape, and looks like the forums got a little makeover as well, so sorry if this is in the wrong place. :-#

Who are you preaching to? And why do you find the need to justify yourself? If you like something so much, screw what someone else says about it and you.

I've cheated more times than I can count throughout high school and college. Of course, it's a bad habit and shouldn't be done and has risks and blah blah blah, but at the end of the day, every single class/grade in high school was a stepping stone to get into a good college, and almost all classes in college were stepping stones to get into medical school. They were classes I had to take and ultimately had no impact on my long-term life. Medical school however is very different. Not only is it more or less impossible to cheat in medical school, these classes now really do matter. I am going to become a doctor, and if I don't learn what I need to in med school, I am going to be screwed during my residency, and that's if I can even make it that far and pass my licensing exams to get my MD. Besides, so many times I've made a cheat sheet and stuffed it into my pocket, only to not once use it during the test. What often happens is that I learn the material very well while making the cheat sheet, and study it over and over, that I end up not even needing it. :P I don't condone cheating whatsoever and would never encourage anyone to. But if you do it, meh, whatever; I don't think differently of the person or anything.

Now, I'm not a "gamer" by any stretch of the imagination, but I do like to pick up a game every now and then. Lately, things haven't been going that great for me so I figure maybe I could try playing some computer games to get my mind off things? Eh, it's worth a shot. :P [Realized I made kind of a long post, cliffs at the end in bold :-#] I heard about Need For Speed: Carbon, and I thought "hey, I like cars, I like racing" so I gave it a go. As mentioned before, I am not a gamer whatsoever and so my dexterity with the keyboard/mouse is not the best, so to say. And this game was way over my head. As much as I liked the cars and the concept, I completely sucked and lost interest quickly. I'm not looking to become a heavy gamer, but rater to find something to distract me from real-world troubles, and I don't feel like investing too much time into getting good at controls. I tried playing Hitman: Blood Money, and it was fun for a while, but it got kind of boring quickly. I had all these weapons at my disposal, but I couldn't do anything with them! I had to kill people silently and make them look like an accident. Pfft, forget that. Let me go in guns ablazing. :D Then I found Max Payne. Freaking. Amazing. I love this game. Everything about it is great. The storyline is well written and executed very nicely through the cutscenes. And it takes place in NYC, so that's a total plus (NY represent homies ) The shooting didn't take great precise aiming, so it was very easy to pick up and get into. I beat that game and went onto Max Payne 2. Not as good, mainly because bullet time got a little messed up, but still more than decent. And the best part is, you can save anywhere, anytime, and so you basically have infinite lives. : Also tried Grand Theft Auto III. Another amaaazing game. I went to three first because I heard it took place in what is basically supposed to be play on New York City. I love it. The car control is nowhere near the level of expertise needed for NFS and it's just a lot of fun to play. Doing those missions was great, and even the difficult ones, no matter how frustratingly annoying, were not so impossible. Some admittedly took me days, but I was always getting so close that I knew I'd eventually be able to do it. I got to the third area (Stanton Island) and the map just got so complicated to navigate, that I kind of started to look for other games, and I found Max Payne and got addicted to that. I'll go back and finish GTA III probably sometime soon, and try out the other ones as well. Semi-cliffs: So yeah, I'm looking for a game to entertain me. I really liked the Max Payne series, and the whole GTA thing. Those aren't my only tastes though, I like my N64 games that occupied me for so long like Mario 64 and Kirby 64 and the like. Basically, I'm willing to try anything. I'm not getting anything that requires a subscription, or massive time invest, so no WoW or anything like that. Just something that I can pick up and play when I'm not feeling that great, to get my mind off my troubles and escape for a while. And it'd be helpful if it didn't take a mastery of the keyboard or mouse to play. Anyone recommend a game for this noob? :anxious:

I do know the definition of conformity...which is why I don't see it's relevance. I don't understand what conforming has to do with anything. Besides, this whole conforming/non-conforming nonsense is ridiculous in virtually every aspect. No one is really all that "different." No matter what, chances are there are tons of people out there somewhere, doing exactly what you're doing and feeling exactly how you're feeling. From what I read (which was difficult because of the text wall and commas replacing periods/semicolons), the kid seems to be "finding himself" and going through his end-of-teens crisis. He's too old to be a child but not old enough to be a real adult. He's 18 and existential; we've all been (or will be) through a similar point in our lives. I can relate to him, and so can most people. It's a part of growing up. My advice would be to try and enjoy yourself man. Instead of being so pessimistic about this, try and look at the bright side. You're 18. You're in college. You're young, but you're not too young. Don't worry so much about every little choice you make and the great impact it may potentially have on your life. Just relax and take care of yourself. Work hard at becoming the person you want to be and make sure to have fun along the way. Don't worry so much about maturity; it will come with age and life experience. Just always keep learning and trying to improve yourself and be a better person. To tell you the truth, I should probably take my own advice...although I do seem to be getting better at it.

Yeah!! Down with conformity!! Let's stick it to The Man that is keeping us down!! What does conformity have to do with anything anyway?

I heard somewhere that you're a liar. Heh. My apologies. I assumed you were saying only humans had sex for pleasure. I am sorry.... #-o It's all good. Just didn't want you to be misinformed too; I hear that dolphins thing all the time and I'm just like "uhh...no..." :D And yeah, it's true, I have mythomania. In fact, I'm doing it right now. Help me! :(

Not sure if you've been to N.Y., you can find anything from a swiss business magazine to the latest news from Australia or North Korea there. The Sun isn't anything special. (Though, he might've read the online edition) I live in New York. :P I said New York because he mentioned it was a small article, and The Sun in NYC is a small little newspaper, with only 100,000 copies circulating every day. If he did live in New York, I was curious as to where, that's why I asked.

I was going to say something about bonobos, since they are basically called the "make love, not war" animals, when I realized that you already did it for me. Try reading your own links bud. Two of the three links there say bonobos as well as dolphins have sex for pleasure. The Snopes article is even critical of itself; read the first and the second to last paragraph. It completely ignores homosexuality and uses a very restricted definition of "sex for pleasure." If you still don't get it, read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_sex ... r_pleasure Bonobos are not the only other animal either. There have been hundreds, if not thousands, of species identified. As you can see, it is very false that only dolphins (or only dolphins and bonobos) are the only non-human species to have sex for reasons other than reproduction. It is just that bonobos (and apparently, dolphins too I guess) are the most widely documented and obvious. In fact, bonobos have even been observed in acts of rape. And they do it in basically every position manageable. :P The first thing I bolded in the last quote is what I believe to be true. I think every animal has sex out of pleasure. Reproduction as well, but pleasure definitely. How can they not? If it feels good, they do it. Remember to do your own research too. And be skeptical of things that you remember "hearing somewhere."

The Sun? From around New York City?

People really need to stop spreading fake "facts" like this. -.- I have no idea where you heard it either, but it's not true in any sense whatsoever. Wow...where do I even begin...

Haha, first the boar thing, now this. At a quick glance, this forum could pass for the offtopic's forum. Okay, maybe not really.

The time is the answer... Edit: It was indeed a toothpick, thanks. :D Let me put this in spoilers so others don't see the URL. [hide]So the URL for 13 is http://www.thesilenceguild.com/Dom/game/emdee/index.php The time is 1:05 PM, but what exactly do I change in the URL? Let's pretend I think the answer is "answer". Do i make it /game/emdee/answer.php, or /game/emdee/answer.html, or what? And I think the answer is "105pm", but are numbers allowed?[/hide]
-
That's a picture of a toothpick, unless it has a special name because it has that cellophane wrapped at the end (which usually means that it is mainly used for hors d'oeuvres). Clues on 13? I feel that it should be easy for some reason.
-
[hide=My clue might be a bit too obvious]So you found the sentence right? Think about the physical arrangement of the words.[/hide]
-
varicella zoster I meant the word I found inside the sentence with VZ :P It's a sentence, not a word? :? Yes, it is a sentence, but what's the sentence have to do with the username and/or password? I can't find a relationship between the sentence and anything else on the page. :? [edit] Nevermind... :anxious:

Learn your SAT words buddy. Pardon me for sounding ignorant, but isn't SAT a test or something from America? If I'm right, I have no clue what you're talking about. #-o Oops, sorry, didn't realize you were from Australia. But you're right, the SAT is a test here in America. One of the sections on the test is about vocabulary and the like, and uses smart-sounding words. Basically, what I meant to say (in a humorous fashion that totally failed because of cultural differences making me have to explain myself and look like an idiot) is that if you knew what the word "append" meant, you'd know what to do. :D

I could have freaking sworn I posted in this topic, before you put the pictures up...did my post get deleted or am I just going crazy? :uhh: Anyway, what I said before (or at least I'm almost positive I did...) was that you should put some disinfectant on it to make sure nothing develops at the wound. Isopropyl alcohol or peroxide both work, but I recommend the former because it feels nicer.
