4 January 2006 - Behind the Scenes - January
Lol, i wondered what the hell all those 'Smile' 'Wink' things were! Censoring smilies? What a miserable thing to do. Edit: Ok, just read the reason. How about we just leave the images, and let the people using IE die? Natural selection ;) o/t Hope the new mage update gives me another interesting way to train up my mage, been looking for one of those. Hope the robes are decent too :)

I just noticed this
I hope it is POH, because almost everyone in the game will spend days messing around with them, leaving all the good spots for doing other things (such as cutting mage logs) totally free for people like me, who couldn't care less about having a house :)

Blood Altar thoughts...
I'm confused :/ Bloods are 600 - 650 gp Nats are 300 - 325 gp So even at 91 rc, you aren't making more money running nats than you are running bloods, and you can run bloods 14 levels earlier. How will double nats still be more profitable? Ok, it doesn't meant there's more money to be made from bloods overall, but it does mean that the best rc profits are accessable far quicker than before. That is, if you can simply abyss craft bloods (which i can't see being a straight forward process i admit).

DPA In relation to account details
Citing the DPA at a Jagex Mod is really funny. They tend to get scared and refer you to the corperate site. :P At least, that's the experience i had when my best mate was perma banned. Unfortunately he was so wound up by it he just completely quit the game, never bothered to take it further. I'm not in the mood atm, but if i get bored later i'll look thru a couple of books and get you a comprehensive answer about where you stand. p.s. Whoever mentioned the Freedom of Information Act - that's only relevant to the public sector so has nothing to do with Jagex.

Advertizements
They are most certainly hosted externally from the runescape site. Generally when you agree to host advertisements you only agree to display the ads, not pay for the hosting of them as well. I meant the game not the adverts :) Ie, if you have a basic website with hosters like tripod or topcities, you have no control over the ads that display on your website. Due to the size of the game, i highly doubt this applies to Jagex. I never said that wasn't the case - i was replying to the assertion above that "people who advertise on runescape dont know who they're targeting". Perhaps i should use quotes more. Good point. They still have control over the adverts in the sense i meant - as it's their decesion whether to farm off the work to an agency or not - but it's quite likely they don't actually vet all the ads themselves.

Advertizements
I would be massively surprised if runescape don't have control over the ads on their site - it's not as if they're hosted on someone else's server or something. And the people who put advertisements on the site should have a good idea of the people who play too. With rs' size i'd imagine ads are quite expensive, and whe you're paying a fair bit of money for adverts you want to make sure you're not wasting it. Fortunately i'm a member so i don't get annoyed by the ads. When i wasn't a member, i used software that blocks banner ads, so i can't really comment on the ads on the site.

How did you make YOUr money? (landmarks)
Oooh, i remember the days of killing hundereds of goblins to make enough money for a mith scmmy :D I mined a hell of a lot of rune ess and crafted runes after that, but used it all for mage exp not money. Then i killed lots of al-k warriors adn sold the unids for a while to get full mith/addy I cut 1k willows to make enough for a rune hatchet back when i was a keen wcer Among other things i fletched lots of addy arrows for my full black mystic Most recently i fletched rune arrows, merched runes and rune ess for ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã5m These days i do that ^ and buy herbs for my cash.

I disagree. If you insist on going down the pseudo-reality route then you cxould easily argue that a monster can only exist in the rs world if it maintains contact with the abyss, and that therefore you need to keep the poral open while it's fighting - which could take as much power as opening it in the first place. However, i feel it's far more important to consider the practical side of how it affects gameplay rather than trying to tie trhe game down to rigidly imposed ideas of 'reality'. Not that i'm saying your suggestion is a bad one, only it should be considered based on the merits of it's impact on the game not on a vague idea of what Necromancy might be like. Eg: It would bias summoning against being used to single boss type enemies in quests ,unless you're pretty rich, but would be more useful for long stints of training. If the monsters are easy to kill/dispose of then it could make summoning redundant as noone wants to spend lots for a shorterm effect. On the other hand, having a constant cost of keeping the monster alive rather than high summoning costs is beneficial because it is a fairer representation of the benefit derived from the monster, but on the other hand may prove pretty similar to the cannon in terms of tactical use, and therefore offers less new tactics to develop and consider.

new magic type
It was just a random example. However, i kill dragons with chaos or death runes. If i could summon a monster to kill them for the cost of only mind runes, it'd be a hell of a lot cheaper and i'm nto sure that's a good idea. Appropriate cost is relative to various factors that aren't concrete, so it's impoossible to say they should cost x minds, or x bloods, or whatever. In relative terms, i think they should cost roughly the same as what it would cost to constantly attack with spells of similar strength.

I see necromancy working in much the same way as the cannon does for range, in that you summon monsters that fight for you, but it wouldn't be a case of a single spell as 'payment'; perhaps you lose 1 death 1 soul rune for every 5 seconds it's alive, or perhaps every time it attacks it costs you runes just as if you were casting spells.

Checks?
Runescape will never have 'checks' Cheques maybe :P

Guide for cheap firemaking xp
That's why accountants are stupid and economists are great ;) You're losing the opportunity cost, which in economics and econometrics has the same 'value' as cash. The "normal" wayy of lookign at it as just cash loss/gain doesn't really make much sense.
