Tip.It Times - 2nd February 2014
I dare to disagree, the shout fest about the old combat system being broken was rather universal, but ironically more prevalent among the same people who now want it back: those who call themselves pk-ers. It is not Jagex that changed its mind, well.. they kinda did, they caved, but you can much easier claim its the players who did after the change they asked, begged, threatened and campaigned for turned out not to be what they wanted. This is where we hit on my problem with this new 'democracy' people, players often do not know what they want and what ultimately is good for them! The issue I mainly saw was never that the old system was too afk-able. Nobodies solution ever seemed to be "make us constantly have to click things". Some people did want things that have been at least partially covered by eoc but feel that eoc broke more things than it fixed. I thought the perfect combat system was dungeoneering before eoc. Weaknesses mattered more, weapon tiers were better balanced, etc. If they had just taken the idea behind dungeoneering weaknesses and spread it out to everything, I would have been happy with the system. They had to go several steps further and change stuff that no one seemed to care about.

I believe at the time they made eoc that Jagex did believe the old combat system was broken, or at least that it could be better. They may however have looked at the data and realized 40+% of players didn't actually think the old system was broken. I would rather Jagex be willing to backtrack on a change that a large portion of the playerbase believes was unnecessary. Return of free trade/wildy had its upsides. The economy was ridiculous with many items unbuyable without "junk" items. Bots came back of course which was negative but I like how it turned out longterm. That longheld principle was already broken by squeal/solomons so I doubt by the time bonds came out anyone could even argue it was really still on of Jagex's principles. I'm not sure how much less effective legacy will be than eoc but its possible that legacy combined with the old interface returning may be enough for quite a few people. If the data showed that over 40% of players wanted the old system back, I think it is worth the risk (which I think is the main point we differ on and probably will continue to do so). We'll see how popular it is. As to it being a waste of dev time...it wouldn't be the first time jagex made an update that crashed and burned and I doubt it'll be the last, at least this one appears to have decent support from the player base.

Looks like the valentines day update will probably launch on or around valentine's day itself. Mod Krista mentioned on twitter that she has an update activating the end of next week. Asked if it was the Valentine's day update and she replied =))) so between that and timing then yea looks like it'll be then.

Dracae, I would agree with you if they were removing eoc. This might make it harder to attract newer players. However with legacy as only a second option I can't say that I see the harm in it that others seem to. I could be wrong, but I just don't think having 2 combat systems will turn away new players. I also don't think the response to every change is "get used to it". Sometimes a change is so repugnant to a chunk of the player base that it isn't worth getting used to. This was a major overhaul for combat which many despise, perhaps it is the way forward but to me it seems absolutely ridiculous to need to use it for everything. Momentum is pretty useless for anything that doesn't die in 2-3 hits. It also penalizes people for the cost of runes that eoc doesn't, arrows that abilities would save, etc. They gave eoc so many advantages as to severely handicap anyone that didn't or couldn't use it. I don't really see what makes using the same button pressing rotation a much better option than click and wait. Both can be monotonous and it just seems that the button pressing for non-boss monsters is completely unnecessary. I prefer eoc over pre-eoc combat, but I think the costs of the system were more than it was worth. I lost a lot of friends that quit because eoc was the last straw. The social aspect of killing is gone, and like I said momentum is so bad as to be mostly worthless. If I can get back even a 10th of the people I knew that left over eoc then I'll be happy enough with it. Even though I plan to use revolution, I'm fine with others not using abilities at all and getting the old system back if it makes them happy because I lose nothing for it.

Tip.It Times - 2nd February 2014
That may have worked, idk. I will probably use revolution when it comes out. However, its taken way too long now. Many who dislike eoc are permanently poisoned against it by now. Momentum has been so much lower dps for so long that it will be a hard sell even boosted. Revolution while cool for me, when I mentioned it to friends that disliked eoc all I could get from them was that it was still eoc and they aren't interested. Legacy has their interest piqued.

I also know a lot of older players who quit or went to old school because there hands just couldn't take constantly doing abilities. They just can't do the quick response needed or it hurts their hands. They never complained about when a boss wasn't possible for them because they didn't expect individual updates to be catered to them but when the entire combat system was rendered pretty unusable they weren't happy.

Tip.It Times - 2nd February 2014
Except it seems to me that thats what legacy is doing. According to the data they have, 41% of people find the original combat system more appealing than eoc. Eoc was a major change that I really feel harmed the social aspect of slayer and general combat. Is it better for bosses and such...absolutely, but for general monsters that have no mechanics at all that would require abilities, I'd rather have the chance to chat with others around me and in my clan than have to repeatedly type or click the abilities.

04-Feb-2014 Treasure Hunter & Demon Drop Table Improvements
I think a major part of the market for these will be people who dislike dungeoneering. I've actually met a lot of people who don't have chaotics because they don't like the skill. Also, I think they're some of the high non-degradable magic weapons.

Apparently the magic requirement for One of a Kind got boosted 2 level to 81 and there's a level 40 divination req as well. https://twitter.com/JagexRaven/status/430350981830684674

Would Sara's theme even really be a healing spell anymore? He ripped the wings off an Icyene and helped created a huge gouge in the land.

138 vs. 200: Vote on combat level formula! (not guaranteed content)
138 at least takes into account (though in a flawed manner) all real skills that actually impact combat. The new formula has the gall to pretend that prayer and summoning aren't combat skills, which is a ludcrious suggestion. In a fight between someone with with 99 attack/strength/defense, prayer and summoning, and someone with only 99 attack/strength/defense and 1 summoning and 1 prayer; you tell me, who is more likely to win? You tell me. Hint: it's not the person without turmoil. Second, and most importantly, the 138 combat actually means that the person who has 138 is maxed (or nearly maxed in all combat skills). The current combat formula for 200 suggests that someone with 2 level 99s (1 'combat skill' + defense + 2) is level 200 and as equally as maxed as someone who has all combat stats at 99. It's ridiculous. Maxed combat should actually mean maxed combat, not 2 out of 8 skills at 99. It's the equivalent of Jagex decided that anyone with 1 out 8 skills at 99 is worthy of a Maxed cape, it's silly. The 200 combat formula is also so easy to obtain (only 2 out of 8 skills at 99), that just about everyone (purposeful exaggeration) is at 200. I have no meaningful way to tell in places like Dungeoneering or whatever whether my teammates are actually maxed combat or noobs with 2 99s. The only way I have to distinguish people is through the highscores, which is lame. 138, as flawed as it was, at least told me that the person was reasonably competent in combat. The new formula does no such thing. 138 was never about "maxing combat", it had to do with threat level. Including prayer is an advantage but with the old formula you could still be maxed without doing any range or magic still as well. You could also be maxed range or magic and still under 100 combat. The new combat system can make a person look more dangerous than they are, but the new one allowed people to hide how high their threat level was and look much less dangerous than they are.

138 vs. 200: Vote on combat level formula! (not guaranteed content)
What about if it calculated it for all 3 and put it up there. Helring (200/200/200). It would let you know at a glance how strong your opponent is in each main style. Then the only issue really is it doesn't include prayer.

138 vs. 200: Vote on combat level formula! (not guaranteed content)
The only options given are 200 or 138. Between the 2 I think 200 is more accurate. Range and Magic being severely under-represented in 138 makes it completely untenable as a combat level formula. I wouldn't mind a new one, but the old 138 is useless. Summoning is pretty useless combat wise and as Urza mentioned it can be seen. Prayer should be accounted for and so should constitution, but if it comes to prayer/con being accurately represented or mage/range, I'd pick mage/range every time because they are a lot more important.

138 vs. 200: Vote on combat level formula! (not guaranteed content)
Including prayer I could see as an advantage. However it seems vastly outweighed by how broken range and mage could be in the old system.

138 vs. 200: Vote on combat level formula! (not guaranteed content)
I just never liked the old formula. The 200 one makes more sense to me. The whole point of showing combat level is to show how much of a threat you are. The old formula didn't do that at all with a level 99 ranger or level 99 mage being so much lower than a maxed mellee'r.

They've had a lot of threads where people have suggested what they want in the city. Maybe not Jagex started ones but they can certainly still use those to get suggestions. However, asking this to Maxed players might be a way to try to ensure longevity to the city, to make ways that players won't level out of its usefulness.

Q: Will lizardmen make their debut in the future through Player-owned Ports? They have been longed for over ten years now and Eastern Lands would be a suitable place to put a bizarre race like the lizardmen. Mod Osborne: Lizardmen will make their first appearance in RuneScape this year, but not in Player-owned Ports. Thats the exact quote and http://[Use Quick Find Code]/[Please Use QuickFind Code]?15,16,291,65264529 is where its shown

Where did you hear that? Several J mods have said it won't end till we get the weekly update, which should be tomorrow.

7-Jan-2014 - Player-Owned Ports - The Next Journey
This was a pretty good answer, lol. Clever response to deal with that lore issue...cause they totally were thinking of that when the update actually happened. Unless of course we take the angle that in lore terms ascension gear is something only the adventurer and a few slayer masters know about and even at that we only know it to be some sort of magic crystal thing, so there is limited reason for us to assume it'd be remotely similar to an substance from the eastern lands we've never seen and know nothing about. I mean that's like saying well you didn't know wtf the material in the scroll was so you tried bread and it seemed to work so thats what you ran with. Plus of course to get to make the darts we don't even need the slayer req for ascension dung, which in lore terms would negate any reason for us to have been there and thus have even a vague knowledge of such a material existing. Then it's less clever than a blindly fumbled excuse for an illogical design choice that really messed with the lore of it all. We have no idea what exactly the scroll says. It may be very descriptive and describe a material that seems similar to the Ascension Shards. Ascension Shards are also on the grand exchange so its possible for any adventurer to come across them before they themselves can enter the dungeon, and we have no proof that other npc have never heard of them.

According to the wiki it only affected skirmishes. The more you had then the more of your side would appear at skirmishes. 3 was minimum and 10 maximum.

Elf City F.A.Q. from Mod Osborne http://[Use Quick Find Code]/[Please Use QuickFind Code]?355,356,562,65264598 So, here we go: answers to your most-asked questions about the Elf City! Please note that the Elf City is very early in development (we're still waiting for a certain poll to finish), so the information below is subject to change. We will be involving you throughout the project's development, asking Power to the Players polls about various aspects, and reading your feedback on the poll thread. Will the Elf City include a Grand Exchange? We are discussing/researching the possibility of including a Grand Exchange in the Elf City. We definitely want to include one! If included, the GE would share the same mechanics and plug into the existing GE. Will the Elf City be available to everyone? The current storyline makes it clear that, at the time of Within the Light, the Elf City is in seed form. It would be hard for a player to clamber into a tiny seed! With this in mind, the Elf City will likely only be accessible to those who have completed Within the Light. We will try to make sure that there is adequate storyline reasoning for how the city has returned from its seed form. It is possible that a very small element of the Elf City - Iorwerth Camp improvements, for example - will be available to those who have completed Underground Pass. What will get on launch? On launch, you will likely receive four diverse and densely packed segments of the city, alongside the Tower of Voices and city walls. These will feature new training methods, guild-like areas and combat experiences. Does the Elf City come with a quest? In the weeks that follow the launch of the Elf City, we will be bringing you a grandmaster quest that will culminate the elf story. When do we get the rest of the city? The remaining four segments of the city are likely to come shortly after the quest. It is likely that these four segments will bring the more peaceful elves back to Prifddinas, and will require the completion of the new grandmaster quest to access them. The grandmaster quest will detail why these elves have returned. Do we get any say in the Elf City?We will poll several elements of this content over the next few months. We really want you to get involved! The polls will likely focus on the various city segments, rewards for the area, and the skills tied into crystal singing.
